Titan Robotics and Cyberworks

Sean was so happy to announce these two books went "Gold" – a video game design term that means the master copy of a game is finished and has been sent to the printers to be mass produced. In this case, Rifts® Titan Robotics™ and Cyberworks™ are off to the printer and we’re all excited about that. The Rifts® Titan Robotics™ Poker Deck has been sent off as well.

We did have a what the @&%$ moment. We were so focused on the books themselves we forgot to include the digital files of the end sheets for the hardcover books, prompting our printing rep to reach out with an inquiry. No problem, Wayne sent them out the same day. It was just kinda funny.

UPDATE: Rifts® Titan Robotics™ Poker Deck – The final proof has been approved. The colors and textured card stock are deep and rich, and they feel great to flip and shuffle. Very nice.

UPDATE: Rifts® Bestiary Volume Two: Now that Titan Robotics™ is at the printer, Sean’s primary focus is bringing Rifts® Bestiary 2 across the finish line. Like volume one, it will include monsters collected from other Rifts® books, with expanded and updated descriptions, many with new artwork, as well as new critters by me (Kevin) and Sean. V2 will be a dynamic and satisfying companion to Rifts® Bestiary Volume One.

UPDATE: Yin-Sloth Jungles™ Expanded and Updated to 2nd Edition Rules: I am so pumped up about this book. I (Kevin) have added so much expanded material on top of what John Klinkel had added, that adventuring into the Yin-Sloth Jungles will feel like a whole new experience. In many ways this is a brand new book on par with what I did with Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms. The Tezcat, Beastmaster, Holy Crusader, Pygmy Shaman, Spy, Undead Hunter, Witch Hunter, and all the O.C.C.s are completely new and epic. There are other fun surprises that will expand your gaming experience, and new characters and elements as well as new maps by Phil Stone and a detailed one by Will Erwin (if we can squeeze it in). Doing such a sprawling expansion was not my original intent, but it is so worth it. I’m trying to wrap it up this week. May release.

COMING Back in Print Soon: Rifts® Africa and Dragons & Gods (Fantasy). We try not to let books go out of print for long. Both of these titles are fan favorites so we are glad to have sent them in for reprints along with 6 other low stock titles. They should be available by mid-May.

UPDATE: Rifts® Antarctica. Though it’s a book or two down the pipeline, Sean and I have been working with Mike Majestic on a bunch of new illustrations for some very cool stuff in Rifts® Antarctica. The kind of stuff that will make your characters want to journey to this frozen wasteland. The artwork has me chomping at the bit to get back to this book and finish it as soon as possible. It is new material that did not appear in the Raw Preview and it is the kind of things that give the Splugorth and their minions nightmares. As Sean reported in the last update, when I told two visitors about the expanded material they drooled and one said, “Now I have to absolutely buy that book, too.” And so will you. Ha, ha, ha ...

Savage Rifts® Conversion PDFs reminder from Sean Owen Roberson – We’ve had some of you reaching out to us to ask if pre-orders are eligible to receive the Savage Rifts conversion PDFs for Titan Robotics™ and the Cyberworks™ Collection. Many are Savage Worlds fans who have had their interest piqued by Rifts® for Savage Worlds and are unfamiliar with Palladium’s general way of doing things. First off, welcome! Second, I’d like to make a few points to help clarify everyone’s expectations:

  • There are technically two Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) conversion documents. The first is the Titan Robotics™ SWADE conversion. The second is the Cyberworks™ Collection SWADE conversion, which was a stretch goal that Kevin and I decided to grant to all backers as an early Christmas present. For brevity, I call the docs “Savage Titan Robotics” and “Savage Cyberworks” but be advised that these are purely rules conversions, they won’t mean much without the context of Palladium’s Titan Robotics™ or Cyberworks™ Collection sourcebooks.
  • Palladium Books, unlike Pinnacle Entertainment Group (the makers of the Savage Worlds RPG), does NOT release PDFs for public sale immediately upon the release of print books. Without getting technical about business strategies, etc., please just respect that our two companies have very different market approaches.
  • This means that crowdfunding campaigns and pre-orders that include PDFs are often a unique chance to purchase PDFs at a discounted pledge or pre-order bundle price.
  • On the flip side, Palladium prints locally here in the USA, often at a printer just a short drive down the road from our offices in Michigan. This means that our physical products ship out in weeks, not months, which is worth considering when purchasing physical books – especially in regard to pre-orders and crowdfunding campaigns.
  • The Titan Robotics™ campaign is the first time that Palladium has Kickstarted a book. We are still learning as we go and are doing our best to accommodate a wide range of customer needs.

So, to get back to the core topic, both Savage Rifts® conversion documents are strictly Kickstarter rewards, HOWEVER the Mechanoids® (and therefore the Cyberworks™) content is especially so due to our current licensing agreement with Pinnacle Entertainment. I was super duper clear about this during the Kickstarter and all of the related interviews, but it seems new fans still got confused and were under the impression that these items would be put up for sale as PDFs as soon as they are finished. This is definitely not the case. That said, we’re bummed if any well-meaning fans get left out of the fun due to what seems to have been a fairly common misconception.

Kevin, Wayne, and I had a good chat and decided to go with an option requested by multiple Palladium fans many months ago — we are offering the following general release books bundled with the PDF, plus the associated Savage Rifts® conversion PDFs. Palladium Collectibles – at Kevin’s Online Toy & Collectibles eBay Store

I am adding new collectibles and Palladium negatives over the next several weeks, so check ‘em out. Alex and I will try to post new items on a regular basis, so check in every week or so to see what’s new.

One-of-a-kind Palladium Books negatives (special and rare collectibles). Negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House, Gen Con, and conventions, and are catching on as rare collectibles, unique in and of themselves. Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. The plastic film negatives were then “ganged” on a massive sheet of Mylar, 16 pages per big sheet, and the printing plates were made from the negatives – everything white, printing black. We have been cutting them loose and making them available to you. I am only keeping a few dozen pages of negatives and a few complete books for myself, the rest are all being slowly offered to you, in no particular order.

  • Each is truly unique, attractive, and fun to have.
  • Own a piece of Palladium Books and RPG history you will treasure.
  • Each was used to print the very book you may have in your collection (1981-2004).
  • Each signed in silver ink by Kevin Siembieda, the founder and owner of Palladium Books. He is also the game designer and often the author or co-author of the book from which the negative originates. And some negatives bear his artwork.
  • Each signed negative comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • Each signed negative is a one-of-a-kind work of art (on rare occasions, two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) that resembles woodcut art, and a very dynamic conversation piece.
  • Each signed negative is on a white board inside a clear plastic bag.
  • Negatives looks fabulous matted or framed! Fits in an 8x10 inch matt opening. Each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches.
  • Prices vary depending on the title, the art, and quality of the negative. Note: Many have scratches, or blemishes, and/or an opaque medium on the negative. Still, they look great and are a piece of RPG history. We recommend you carefully examine the photographs of each item to avoid disappointment.
  • We have been making the negatives available, in no particular order, for a number of years, and will continue to do so. However, cutting them loose, signing and bagging is a time consuming process.
  • Note: The negatives from the TMNT RPG, TMNT Adventures, and some Rifts® titles are already sold out. Moreover, the negatives from many titles were destroyed, so when you see one you like, get it when you can. Enjoy.

Original art – My Ebay store is one of the few places where you can find original artwork by me (Kevin Siembieda), Kevin Long, Charles Walton, and others, as well as one-of-a-kind negatives from classic Palladium books (they look awesome framed), and other Palladium memorabilia. Closing Thoughts – Warm weather and warm thoughts

I'm looking forward to warmer weather. Winter, gray clouds and snow are giving way to sunshine, blue skies, and warm thoughts.

It has been a roller coaster ride these past few years for Palladium, and I'm sure, for many of you. The thing about roller coasters is that they are fun and exciting but also scary and alarming at times. Heck, there are moments you feel like you’re going to fly off the tracks and plummet to your doom only to be jerked to safety at the last moment and coast gently to the end. Despite the wild ups and downs, twists and turns, the ride leaves you exhilarated and anxious for more thrills. We have enjoyed some exciting ups and scary turns during the wild ride of these past few years, but we came out of it okay and exhilarated. We hope you did as well. Now, we are ready for some new excitement.

As Palladium moves forward, we hope you’ll come along with us for the ride because we have all kinds of thrills waiting for you. A few of them are big. Really big. Though we dare not say anything definitive until we can go public with the news or until books are heading to the printer or we launch a new Kickstarter campaign.

In the last Update, Sean talked about a “shared vision.” As wonderful as he made it sound, the truly shared vision between him and me is a rare and beautiful thing. There are days our creative energy feels like one person as we help each other elevate our ideas and take our work to the next level. The things we are working toward and building together are ... wow. And our energy is inspiring other creators – artists and writers – to give their all to their contributions with astonishing results. Results you’ll start to see in the many products and announcements that will carry you with us on a ride into familiar and adventurous new territory.

I’d better get back to it. I have books to finish and projects to initiate. I’m just glad I have Sean, the Palladium staff, and magnificent freelancers at my side to turn the stuff of dreams and musings into reality. I’ve been saying this for a while, at least internally at the office, that it feels like Palladium Books in 1985. A significant time when we were just about to take off and anything seemed possible. What saw release over those next five years? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles® RPG followed by Robotech®, Ninjas & Superspies™, Beyond the Supernatural™ and Rifts®!
