Re: Inspirational Fiction
The Suffering , an action-horror video game from 2004, has some parallels with Nightbane. It takes place in a prison that is suddenly overwhelmed by nightmarish monsters. The main character must fight his way out, aided by his unexplained ability to transform into a powerful monster whose form vari...

Re: Forever foods - what do your PCs look forward to finding?
Peanut butter is always a good standby. It's very dense in calories and generally doesn't spoil due to its low moisture content. It does undergo something called rancidification due to chemical reactions, but that tends to cause a poor smell, taste, or texture, rather than dangerous bacterial growth...

Re: Language and Literacy issue
Personally, I prefer the breakup of "native" vs. "other" language in RUE, as it directly illustrates how a non-native speaker of a langauge has to work harder & spend more time (i.e. more levels) to achieve the same proficiency as the average native speaker. Sorry for the ex...

Re: Language and Literacy issue
By the end of the 20th century, literacy has decreased even in industrialized nations, to the point that the U.S. enjoyed less than a 90% literacy rate among the adult population. I'm not surprised people missed this, since I don't expect most experienced players to double-check the Literacy skill ...

Re: Any thoughts on the Dhampir (Rifter 49)?
If your campaign is brute force, with mostly brawling, then they could easily dominate thanks to their high A.R. and suffering only half damage from many attacks. I do expect it to be brawling-heavy, but I would suggest that the Nightbane setting uniquely weakens both of these. According to Dark De...

Re: Nightbane-Errata
I'm usually loathe to bump such old threads, but since this one is stickied, I'll make an exception , just in case anyone else is looking for these answers. The Ashmadi is listed has having "Supernatual" for Combat style. It can't learn any Hand to Hand combat skills. (I've just been...

Any thoughts on the Dhampir (Rifter 49)?
I've been reading my lovely new copy of the NIghtbane hardcover, which includes some bonus Rifter content - including the vampire rework in Rifter 49. The Dhampir in particular caught my eye as a player character alternative to the Wampyr, and hoo boy, that RCC is strong. It clearly blows the Wampyr...

Re: Choosing morphus: How to balance?
Thanks for the input, all. I went ahead and tried assigning values to each morphus trait, but swiftly realized that, due to the different bonuses they gave, combining different traits could easily add up to something self-defeating or far more than the sum of their parts, so assigning a single stati...

Choosing morphus: How to balance?
I want to run a Nightbane game on a play-by-post forum I frequent. I don't want anyone stuck playing a Nightbane whose morphus is nonsensical or forces them into a playstyle or theme they're not interested in, so I'm going to let players choose their morphus traits. I also want PCs on an even footin...
