Re: I let my players play anything, do you?
I don't play a game without first knowing the characters. I need some background, their goals for the short term and long term, and possibly enemies they may have made. As for a campaign, I think big first, then focus and fine tune the details with characters and their subplots in mind. And through ...

Re: I let my players play anything, do you?
Are you making fun of me? Mr. Potty? Or more accurately my current situation. The GM has agreed that as long as I enjoy playing what I play, I can play whatever. Then he keeps comin up with reasons that they don't make sense, to me. I realized at that point we weren't actually playing Rifts anymore...

I let my players play anything, do you?
The best part of Rifts is the ability to play whatever you want. Other games restrict your roleplaying hopes and dreams. Rifts has no character balance, so why try and force any? Even when a player wants to play something amazingly powerful, I allow it. Here's why... A game master is not the only so...

I was originally thinking like how L5R does it. Engage the characters on a level dependent on how well and skillfully negotiate the battlefield. It's probably never gotten much attention because it's not a focus of most Palladium games.

Dead time in a game is a killer. Maybe they need a party leader to make the final decision. I've had this problem playing before. Re: Parrying and dodging
The FAQ says one, or two to three with paired weapons. It's rare for a character not to have even H2H:Basic. I guess there's a lot of discretion up to the GM. Being a free action just seemed out of place to me. I'll just think of it as a natural defense in melee. Problem solved, thanks.

Parrying and dodging
I guess I had assumed parrying costed an attack like a regular dodge. I am wrong. It seems kind of odd that you get more more bonuses to parry than dodge overall and it costs nothing. True, you cannot parry bullets, but dodging bullets usually incurs a stiff penalty. I know you can only parry so man...

I don't use the tables. If XP is given out, then I just give everyone the same lump sum. How much will depend on the group as well. Some people enjoy a faster advancement than others. My preference though is to keep track all of the XP myself. Then I'd award it depending on how well the player rolep...

When a GM knows the players very well, it's fun. Everything they're probably going to do is prepared for, or things are set in motion that 9 times out of 10 they are going to pursue. That's why I said it might be railroading.

The god npc is not fun. I've played with a GM who had one in every game we played. Making the characters sidekicks and essentially useless kills the game. Open conversation between players and GM is great. Many players forget that it's not the GM's world alone, it's a collaborative story that they all take part in. I like the idea of perks. Simply create a list of little abilities and pieces of cool equipment maybe about twice as many as players. I don't think magic fits the theme. Other games would be better suited, just add zombies. Characters aren't supposed to have the upper hand. NPCs would treat them accordingly. It'd be very difficult for a Wolfen player to hang out with a human adventuring party in the heart of the Western Empire. While I've never specifically focused on law or chaos, I believe they can be important forces in a game. For chaos, I would try to imagine the psychological makeup of the individual.
