Wire mesh i would think has to big of holes to be of any good use. My idea would be to also use perforated steel. Same thing as mesh but much smaller holes so nothing would be able to put fingers through.

The only maximum number of skills you can have is based upon the skills in the book. You can conceivably have all the skills in the book with the proper application of brain power. They would count as secondary skills though. But that's just me.

Vegetable oil clogs up the engine faster then then the proper fuel. However a quick engine exchange and your golden. After the engine is out some maintenance will have it clean again in no time.

Carborane superacid is a million times more potent then pure sulfuric acid. Fill a few bulbs with that stuff and use as grenades. Creepers wouldn't last long against it. Or if attacked by the more dangerous human being play a game of surprise catch with them and see who has a bad day!

In one of the books there is a table that helps to determine what HP and SDC percentages limbs are given. When the character is being mobbed use those numbers to determine dismemberment and hilarity will ensue.

I would go with the survivors first. If they have weapons and in this day and age who isnt armed. They can help locate and transport the food. Last thing would be the guns and ammo.

I'm pretty confident a skilled character would be able to accomplish the needed programming. The arms would be a first action defense against an invasion while humans get suit up for the combat. Not to mention a background operator would be at the helm at the arms control center.
