Ideas for this world?
I have sent in a submission for the Rifter detailing a new city in the AtB. Now I'm kicking around a new idea, but I would like to know what other AtB players would like; new world info, updated info, or scenarios. I feel that the Rifter may be our only way to see new stuff. This post would help those like myself working on ideas to get a better feel of what the AtB community wants.

I'm a big fan of small scale world info. I don't care what's going on in Germany for a Rifter article, but if you've got a story about say, ATB Munich then I'm interested.

I agree...I don't like large detailed world books. I love city-states and small scale kingdoms. What irks me is when people come up with ideas for AtB and they don't stick with the theme, or they don't use EoH for a baseline as far as power goes (this was the reason I don't like the dinosaur material for Cuba from the Rifter...they are way too technologically advanced & much too powerful for the setting).
Converting some of Palladiums other material for use in AtB is nice sometimes...I once converted the New Roman Republic from Rifter 1 for use in AtB.
I love things that make campaigns easier...scavenging charts, encounter tables, random scenario and campaign tables, random events tables...
Most of all keep it suggestive and somewhat vague to an extent...drop some obscure minutia on us.

Well this is good because my article I sent in is about a city-state that is surrounded by the Prairie Dog Imperium. At this time do to tension between the two. The new city-state has decided to make contact with the rest of the leaders in the old U.S.
The idea I'm kicking around now would look at what's left of the Vancouver Island and maybe more lost tech. But the problem I'm having is; do a scenario about area, do a new city-state in the area, or do a scenario that could lead to a new city-state in the area.

I've had ideas about how to fill in the gaps in Road Hogs that talk about truckers as an OCC but then never mentions them again. More info about the west, it's open highways and shipping companies like Feral Express that serve as a very fragile link between East and West. (Yes, THAT Feral Express. Scratch a few letters off a Fedex truck and thats all the explanation needed.)
All of that was slated to be written after I finished my article about the Academic Underground, preserving knowledge and searching for lost knowledge in a furry world.
And that article hasn't been touched in about 2 years. I should go back and finish but just haven't had the motivation.
Incidently, I do live on Vancouver Island so if you want info, gimme a shout.

Well...I thought the description of Truckers was kinda self explanatory myself.

Why is it that this theme is so familiar?

You used the f word!?! But seriously...that would be a great topic so long as it doesn't take on some kind of goofy Erin Tarn or Lazlo spin.

Because it sounds like the movie The Postman. Which I just watched about a week ago for the first time. I felt it had some good ideas, has anybody read the book.
So I am looking at going from a scenario and then having info on the city-state that could happen as a result of the scenario. Any thoughts on this format. Thanks for the help.

I can't remember if I was thinking of the Postman when I thought of Feral Express. Mostly I just thought it was a cool name and worked backwards from there.
The basis for the Academics was to detail just who they were and how they kept science and knowledge relevant in a world prone to more basic animal violence and conflict. I also split them up into newer Scientists in the cities that continue to experiment and push knowledge further and into older Sages which tended to be older hermits known to most villages, but keepers of pre-Crash knowledge.
There was also going to be a couple scenarios and world info with an Indiana Jones type flavor. Instead of ancient temples, try to imagine looking for the location of an ancient and buried shopping mall or factory or patent office, claimed as the territory of a tribe of mutant rats. Had a list of dozens of useful things to hunt for and burried knowledge that people would pay for.
Also a couple new background/OCCs for academics that are more on the Roleplay side, including a Science as religion type and a bookworm who's almost useless on his own but knows so much that he can buff other party members skills.
As I said before, this was all laid out about 2 years ago. lol Man I suck.

Mr. Grinch:
I think this sounds like good stuff. Thanks for the links you sent, because something I thought I would be rolling over for awhile is starting to come together much quicker.

Sounds familiar, I use a couple of similiar themes in my campaigns. I had a few competing 'salvage and refurbishment' establishments (2 were based in 'Philly & the other was based in Cardania) that would hire the players to basically go out and look for stuff (mostly military hardware, construction equipment, aviation related material, etc...).
I also had a few separate groups of aristocrats that were soley interested in collecting rare artwork and other historical artifacts (sending the players through the ruins of ancient museums and the like). Some of these groups were at odds with one another and would have NPCs to intercept or harass the PCs. Some of them were involved for fleshing out their personal collections while others wanted to contribute to the preservation of society and culture by putting the items in modern day museums.
Universities and scholars always played a big part in my campaigns as well, the quest for more knowledge always had the PCs travelling somewhere in search of ancient text and so forth.
Personally, I think the Academic Underground background is sufficient enough for the scholarly backgrounds...but it should be supplemented with academic apprenticeships; especially one that brings about teaching new skills to PCs.
