Yup.

The most powerful Robotech weapon is the main Fission Beam on the Masters Mothership (4D6x1 million MDC).

You could convert them down if you wanted, but given the size of the ships that carry such super-weapons (in that they are stupidly huge), you might not need to.

Yeah, except their FTL would broke down after a jump or two in the
Three Galaxies, plus they are lousily equipped to deal with magic or
phase tech - and I guess that CG equipped ships would fly rings
around them.

On the other hand... Would not Phase World tech be ultra-powerfull
in the Pre-Rifts Earth? Yeah.

Do we need to nerf them? IMO not.

I think the large, super power cannons should be rare in the 3G setting, but not non-existent. In one of the Phase Technology descriptiosn they talk about legendary shape shifting dreadnaughts that could wipe out entire fleets with a single volley. Sound like any ship we know?

Not necessarily. Most Robotech vessels travel at .20 or so C in normal space. Phase world vessels travel at Mach speeds in normal space, then accelerate to multiples of the speed of light for FTL travel. There's no inbetween, unless you do like I am and say that Phase World ships can make short hops using their CG drives. In that case, if you succeed, you end up where you wanted. If you fail, you are off course by a minimum of 4D6x10000 miles.

As far as weapons go, Phase World stuff does more damage, but Robotech weapons have longer range. With their speed and distance advantage, most Robotech vessels can plink a Phase World ship to death. Don't let the PW ship get within 50 miles or its all over.

Perhaps the big ships, but given all the flavor texts, Veritechs should fly rings around PW fighters, from a manuverability standpoint if nothing else.

Just a side note, we have seens G forces affecting heavily characters
in the anime, right?

However, I do know that modern day astronaunts tend to be disoriented because there is no up or down (gravity). But this effect is temporary as they adapt.

Whenever there is acceleration - such in a dogfight - there are
G forces. CG tech counters the effect - that is why crew do not get
smeared into a blood mess in most SF as ships go to FTL.

Otherwise, see 2001 Space Odyssey.

Of course modern day spacecraft are incapable of accelerations
for several G's (and therefore for dogfights) as they are extremely
limited by fuel.

Now, as far as I know, Robotech vessels (except by capital ships)
lack artifical gravity.

Since it's been tossed around here a few times in the last few weeks, I thought I would clarify the Copyright rules for you all.

1) It is against the rules to post Palladium Books Game Statistics or post a link containing Palladium Books Game Statistics of material copywritten by anyone other than Palladium Books.

2) It is against the rules to make posts encouraging the unauthorized distribution of copywritten works (Palladium or otherwise) or to post a link to a site encouraging the unauthorized distribution of copywritten works.

3) It is against the rules to solicit either of the above.

4) It is allowed to discuss other's copywritten material and the inspiration it may have on your games provided you do not break the above rules.

NOTE on Robotech, Macross II and TMNT: Because the licence on those properties has expired, they must be treated as belonging to another company.

Thanks.

If you create a mega weapon with Phase World in mind that may be inspired form but is not a direct copy or conversion of a Robotech weapon you are fine.

If you create a Reflex Cannon as used by the CCW, we've got an issue.

So are you saying that we cannot talk about putting Phase tech and Robotech tech together any more because Palladium does not have the licence any more?

Palladium has allready had enough copyright related lawsuits in it's past.

Besides, do you really want to be the one responsible for bankrupting Palladium Books?

Aren't we the consumers? When we bought the books, don't we own a tiniest part of the copyright as well?

I mean I would understand if the staff are not allowed to do so, but we are the "commoners" who bought the books. Aren't we entitled to our own opinions and ideas? It's not like we publish the half the book.........

I think your missing the point.

you, as a consoumer, can mix and match robotech and phase world to your hearts content.

Palladium cannot legally host this creation on it's website.

Copyrights aren't about the company, they are about intellectual products, no? But blah, all those laws are made by the powerful for the strong.

Your point is? We can cause trouble for Palladium by violating copyright laws, wether or not YOU agree with them. Life's a *****, get used to her.

it's simply that palladium cannot legally post robotech stats anymore.

Nope, you don't own the copyright on Robotech at all, Harmony Gold does.

The problem is the forums here are owned by Palladium, so anythign that appears on these forums is implied to be through their consent. So if you post an unauthorized conversion on here (which includes copyright stuff from Robotech) and Palladium doesn't make the effort to remove it, it's the same as Palladium having posted it.

They'd sue you too BTW, Palladium would just be the main course.

Summary

1) Don't say something is a conversion of a copywritten item
2) Don't post palladium game stats for something that is a copywritten item.
3) Do use inspiration from other soruces and your own ideas to make things for your games.

The Rules

A more specific example, you couldn't post a ship having a Reflex Cannon listed in it's stats.

You could however post a ship having a Heavy Nuclonic Beam Cannon that did 2D6x1 million MDC to everything in it's path.

It's a matter of what you post being your creation, not someone elses - unless you have their permissio.

Balance, huhh?

Somehow I think - for example - in 1991 Desert Storm
was not so balanced.

Just my 2 cents.

:? I'm not sure how your pennies apply to this particular gaming discussion. Can you enlighten me?

I think what he means is, when there is a war of any kind, real or in an RPG, it will not always be the same tech wise or number wise for both sides. One side will always have an advantage somewere or in many places. As in Desert Storm, they had us outnumbered, but we had better tech and better training which won the day easily. It can happen in Rifts and Phase world to.

Err... That above had to do something with air superiority - which
was achieved by superior aircraft and better training. Both are very
clear statwise.

And for a game, you don't want the players squashing everything out of hand, but nor do you want them unable to do anything in combat. It gets boring or frustrating.

Sometimes I do want boredom (for greater impact of
the things to come). Sometimes I want the party to
run for their life.

Sometimes I wonder, why we got derailed - I only wanted to tell,
that if something crawls out of an alien dimension, most of the
times, it is not "balanced". It either gets hus bottom kicked (if
it is biologically possible :D) or kicks the bottom of the natives.
