I saw that too.

It makes sense, you have to trade off the protection of armour for the protection of mobility. There's a balance point you have to find to make it through the battle in one piece.

they need better armor.. current ones are heavy flak and Ceramic outfits... with no effort or money for Ferro fibrous armor or other new technology.

They love to throw it in your face how much they've spent to train you & how valuable you are, but that's only when you get in trouble. They really don't care that much...to the Pentagon whatever service you're in doesn't matter, you're just a number. If you die, another number will be sent from America to take your place.

It takes a lot of money to make armor, but it only takes one drunken night without a condom to create a life.

Takes less than that. 2 high school kids and the phrase "You know I love you, baby."

No alcohol needed there.

For that matter, they don't even have to be in high school.

I think, with the exception of special forces types, most soldiers out on the firing line are only issued their primary weapon. Officers, senior NCOs and heavy weapons specialists may also get a sidearm in addition to their weapon for situations their primary weapon is inapropriate. Vehicle crews would be issued a total number of longarms and sidearms based upon available storage.

However, in certain circumstances, extra issue side arms, or personally owned sidearms may begin to appear. Most notably MOUT operations or security operations which both require lots of close range work.

What sucks is when you have to potentially defend a building and possibly evacuate the people to an alternate sight when each Marine (there wasn't a whole lot of us) has a 9mm berretta, an 870 shotgun, some CS grenades, and PR-24's.
Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem".

Well, considering how 75% of casualties are the result of shrapnel, richochettes or explosions of some sort, I wouldn't mind having myself a decent flack jacket to keep my hide from getting peppered too bad byt he indirect stuff. The ability to absorb direct fire from my enemy's primary longarm is just icing on the cake, if you ask me.

The fact that it doesn't work as advertised is rather irksome, however...

I'll stick with my 45. If I need a rifle then there will be plenty to choose from laying on the ground.
