While I'm sure the physics folks will be along soon - for now I'll just say that was a cool visual. :)

I saw this a long time ago, but there was more to it. They fired a machine gun at the sword. It divided quite a few of the bullets before taking enough damage to be broken.

yep...
there were 3 videos i saw of it...

pistol, heavy gun (wana say mech gun) and a side-shot with both...

basically if not absolutely straght on with the hit, the sword shatters...
I believe Socrates said it best at, "I drank what?"

A finely crafted steel egde vs. fast lead... Not surprising.
"Things aren't what they used to be" is the rallying cry of small minds. When men say things used to be better, they invariably mean they were better for them, because they were young, and had all their hopes intact. The world is bound to look a darker place as you slide into the grave.

Hard steel against soft lead? Blah. Lets see the sword to against a high velocity bullet (rather than a slow pistol) where the bullet is made of the same material.
Recovery? Only for the rich and 20 counties.

Yes but it's probably pretty easy to say that a swordsman will get owned by a group of gun toting soldiers. Swords are nice for close quarters though and much more so then a knife unless people start grappling.
