I'd say it is fault of the guy that wrote the Anvil Galaxy Book.
Good book and all...but the Gene-Techs just seemed kinda useless...we already have Gene-Splicers, sir.
But then again, Gene-Splicers are meant to be rare...so having Gene-Techs as a sort of slightly less rare version makes sense in that regard.
Though that brings up the question of "Do we really need more guys that mess around with genetics?"
Some would say: yes, others would say no.
Hmmm...I'm seeing both sides of the argument...weird...

From AtB to Lone Star to South America to Gene-Tech to the Gene-Splicers to the Bio-Borg freaks of Atlantis messing with the body is just a part of what Palladium is in high-power settings. I'd say it is almost as vital if not more so than magic.

Dunno why it's there, it's just Kevin working his "magic" again. If you look at the Gene-Tech RCC it says By Kevin Siembieda... so blame him. I doubt Bill would have wanted it in the book. It's too similar to Gene Splicers, and I know Bill always hated reprints, so odds are he would have prefered to just use Gene Splicers instead of creating a nearly identical, super-technologically advanced crazy aliens who fly around messing with peoples genetic structure and making monsters at whim. Really, the only difference is that the Gene-Splicers are typically loners who always kill people that mess with them, whereas the Gene-Tech are typically loners who almost always kill people who mess with them.
That was pretty much my one problem with the book. Other than that, there's too much stuff that is just barely touched on, like the inner parts of the galaxy, the forge war, the Omega Order, and the K!zon, but there was alot of info to squeeze into the book...

They're not the same Creature.darkmax wrote:Yeah, but why repeat an essentially same NPC?
It isn't even 100% certain that they even know of each other.....although I might have read somewhere that they have a nasty "rivalry" going on.
While I mix up the respective names, their Purposes are different:
A]] One of the two Species -the ones currently making Monster Brodkil on Earth -are dispassionate, emptionless beings who couldn't care less about anything around them; the Four Horsemen or the Mechanoids could be bearing down on them and they wouldn't bat an eyelash. And while their Experiments show a complete disregard for Sentient of any Level, they don't seem to have "fun" with their work; they just want to take things apart.
B]] The other Species operates mainly in the Three galaxies. Unlike their counterparts, they will actually accept an audience for beings wishing to be augmented.
Also unlike their counterparts, this Species takes great pleasure in deforming, mutating, or augmenting Creatures in such a manner that they will cause pain and suffereing once the "newly-made" Creature is released back into the "Wild..."
NOTE: In passing, the Author/Creator of the Second "Gene" Species clearly states that these Aliens are not to be confused with their Earthly counterparts...
The Kevinomicon, Book of Siembieda 3:16.

17 For Thou art allowed to do Evil without Limit, nor do thy Enemies retaliate.
18 Thy Military be run by Fools and Dotards.
19 Yet thy Nation suffers not. Praise be unto Him that protects thee from all harm!!

The reason they're so dispassionate is because they can pretty much leave Rifts Earth whenever they want. If the Four Horsemen decided to charge them, the Gene Splicers would just fly off in their nifty spaceship, take their toys, and go somewhere else... and honestly, the Gene Tech are about as dispassionate as the Gene Splicers.

Gene Splicers operate extensively in the Three Galaxies. In fact, in the first Phase World book, there's a section specifically talking about the Gene Splicers. In addition, the Gene Splicers on earth do accept beings to be augmented, though it is rare (your mention of the Monstr Brodkil is a good example of this).

Are you referring to Gene Techs? Or Gene Splicers? Does it matter? They both do this.

Yeah, it's important to note that because the two races are pretty much identical. The ONE difference is that the Gene Tech tend to be slightly more mercenary than Gene Splicer. Yeah, that really needed a whole new RCC.
Instead of spending so much time on a new RCC that's 99% identical to one that already exists, why not a little not, "Gene Splicers in the Anvil Galaxy tend to be more mercenary than Gene Splicers on Rifts Earth and will occasionally alter creatures in return for money." Guess what? Now there's no difference at all between the Gene Tech and the Gene Splicer!

Or, they could be like Vulcans and Romulans....darkmax wrote:The only reasoning I can find is that the Gene Tech is probably an abnormality within the Gene Splicer race. It could be that they are just more interested in profit than the rest of the Gene Splicer.

Or it could be a simple as Gene Tech being included in for completness. Meaning you dont have to buy another book to have genetic manipulation and experimentation in the phase world setting.
