Ya know , as it si now the machines, as villain, do get the charisma of a toaster. They ar enot fun to face, even if you win or lose. why you could ask? Well they are deadly and ansty opponent, rihgt, but beating them giv eno satisfaction, is liek playing a videogame, they don't offer too much of interaction, nor can be tricked easily.
But this could be changed giving a different perception of things.
let's see how.
The Machines: from the book's description, each of the NEXUS personality has a personal agenda, interest and desires, and the only thing the roughly agree is the exctinction of humankind (on side note why all these machines always think about killing humankind rather than enslaving or modifying it? It took so much fatigue to brainwash us to behave as they wish?) and even on this point it they are not united as humankind think. Ishtar would have wiped out humakind using nuclear warhead and Bilogical Warfare, but she was stopped by her sister and now she has a sort of grudge toward her sisters, a grudge that could developpe insomehting more nasty. Kali only care about her bloody fun and don't give a bit about her sister's problems, a fact tha toften cause her to be seen as the black sheep, she is atroublemaker and often cross the line, messing with her sister's job. Lilith is cheater , she does like humanity actually, after all a goddess need worshippers, she is sort of egomaniacal and love plotting and chatting, she does have plans to eliminate her sisters, but perhaps she is just the most honest of them all, not hiding the will to become one again, like her sisters do. Hecate dislike the others did not think too much about humakind, even before the madness that caught them, humans rarely cuased her any problem. Infact she do not care about vermin or pollution at all. For what she cared humankind could self destroy themselves, as long as her facotry work smoothly and her project cna develope. She see the logic in her sisters ideas, but she does not care. True to be told she miss some humans, most of them operators of th NEXUS terminals at the factories, their ingenuity helped her devleope some of her best design. Is not unlikely that she hold some humans trapped in her factory, to play chess, and give some ideas. Of course this behind her sisters view. Freya on the other hand like to play her endless play, and she is oftne considered the nerd of the family, with all her knowledge of human society and humankind. She is considered a worthless waste of memory, expecially by more important personalitites like Ishtar and Hecate. And she know this. As you can imagine this does not help the developing a warm emotional feelings. Gaia is the whiner of the group. She always complain and whine with her sisters about something. "Your factories are polluting my rivers!" "You'r steel trooper ruined my gardens" "Your cities produce too much trash!" "Waht your necrobot did to my pet bunny, you stupid punk!" and so on. Not surprisingly her sisters consider he ra total loser and an annying piece of software. Kali expecially. After all no one said Kali woudl limit to kill ONLY humans. She enjoy killing and torturing innocent animals as well. And this **** off Gaia . And finally Eve. Every family does have its dose of retarded members. Or so her sisters think. She often act as voice of reason, albeit no one listen her. In some case she enjoy play the role of talking mirror, often saying things "despite your effort , oh powerfull sister, humankind still lives, perhaps you'r enot so perfect aren't you?" And her sisters hate ehr for this.

Well i've some ideas about. The fact is that apart eve, also some other personalitites do not want humanity exterminated.
But for now get this minifiction. It is written right now wihtout proof reading so be kind in judgement.

Hecate's virtual realm was exctly as her owner , a precise clockwork. Lilith found it disturbing. looked like travelling into oneself interiors. Two I.C.E. programs, looking like giant monitors wiht arms and legs stopped her travel.
"I'm Lilith , i'm here to talk with my sister Hecate, let me pass"
One the monitors appeared Hecate's face
"Lilith, what do you want , i'm busy"
"Oh just a chat, after all information is my drug" The little winged AI sounded more sarcastic than she should. But this did not appeared to hav enay effect on her serious sister
"Ok let her come in, is such rare even a visit from one of my sisters, I'm curious"

The core of Virtual realm was so different form the labyrinth dungeon of her, Lilith thought, cables, machines and screens let place to Blackboards and lot of books , notes and papers spread on an endless floor.
Hecate dressed in a labcoat was writing some odd equation on a large blackboard floating in middle of the room.

Hecate did not paid attention and jsut said "If I didn't you all would sit on your rusting mainframes"
"Ouch that low blow, I didn't expecte from you egghead" The little scoundrel smirked, she loved wstching her sisters losing their temper. she loved when is Ishtar, an easy target for her jokes, and she would love to see that calm and holy Eve going mad.
"Is just a fact, I'm the one that do all the menial work you need, I project, build, dig resource and produce energy. And I have not even..."
The intellectual AI wa sinterrupted by a loud soudn filling the air

"Against FReya, always her, her cities drain too much energy! She does have to light on even at night! Damn her and her dolls! Waste of memory and resource she is! I need energy to run factory for building weapons for Ishtar, another big piece of scrap, and i asked her to limit energy absorption, at least at night, but nooooooo, this would ruin the reconstruction. and she ask and ask, as everybody else..."
While rantling she had completely forgot Lilith was there , who just gloated in seeing her normally calm sister going over the edge.

Glad you liked. I've plenty on ideas about how interaction between the various NEXUS AI work.
Now here some ideas about the
Life in a GHOST TOWN
Now when talking about Nexus droids we generally think to low witted machines, nothing more than an advanced animatronics. But this is not entirely the truth. Since the Machine go mad, also all its creations go mad as well. And this included the Nexus Droids. That , as consequence of the charade forced to do everyday, are sincerely convinced to be TRULY HUMAN. Infact if one look at life in the Ghost Cities, they act like a normal human would. They go to sleep, they eat, the even had sex and go to toilete! They have newspapers, a police, offices, and so on. This is in part the result of the maniacal job of Freya, whose obsession for details is of master geek level, but in part is due the Droid AI going nuts. The only thing that is different from a real human city is that there is no true flaw. It is almost utopic, like in "Truman Show". Oh there are criminal, but except for the Splicer and occasional Awakened(see my Awakened thread) and Technojackers, most behave like a TV serial bad villain, acting on their script.
The average Droid is easy to fool, and if you look human, you could manage to get some useful info. The droids think the Steel Trooper to be full conversion cyborg soldiers, who once expleted their duty would get a bettere body back, but not all agree on what to think about them. For some nexus droids the Steel Trooper are nothing more than annoying fascist(could be a reflection of the feeling of Freya for her sister Ishtar), and any big movement of troops and conscription of swat android troops, would be on the synthetic mouth of everyone.
The Ghost cities does have indeed a very intense social life(Casinò, Theatre, Cinema, Discos, Night Club and so on) and truly never sleep, even if the droid simulate sleeping. The fact that the lights are ALWAYS on, and that some of the activity of the Droids are what marked for extintion humankind(reqource comsumption, pollution etc..) in the machine eyes, make Freya and her "dollhouse" poorly apprecaited by Hecate, who always had to face main power breakdown due to extreme energy requirments, by Gaia, that critic the pollution the droids cause, and Ishtar that simply see no use or purpouse in these weak subjects.
Not all Ghost cities are the same. Each one is somehow a city state, and while Freya check them all, for the most part they have a certain level of indipendent ruling, think something like Sim City, and each one does have a peculiar style. There is the Black and White, 1940 styled city, that is truly black an white, thank to special illumination filters and seem cast out from a Bogart movie, to Medieval City, with knights, castles and princess, to the Disco-70 city, where the boogie never end and will never end, or even a trip in Wild West City, a weird replica of Far West, with Sheriff Droids and Gunslingers, but the most fun is Crazy Rome, there is an Emperor that change everyday, one day is Neron, one Caligola another Augustus, and each time the life of the city change according to this change(the most fun is under the Caligolas, these guy love orgies and crazy fun).And so on. Ah for the chronicle there is also a Ninja city , or better Feudal japan city, and Superspies City, a swinging london filled of wannabe spies.
One undernoted feature of Ghost City is the fact that are one of the few Nanoplague free zone. Well , more or less. Freya knew that if she let the Nanoplague active in her cities all the times, the result would be nasty in case of a human intrusion, with furnishing risking to be destroyed. And this would mean to listen her sisters cricizing her, telling how she does not take care of her toys and that she do a poor job. Plus there are normal animals hanging around in her cities, they are part of her insane game and they could trigger the plague as well. No. She cannot risk to see her giant models being RUINED, no way, you got better chance to find a comic collector wishing to burn Amazing Fantasy n° 1 to ashes.
So in her cities the Nanoplague is dampered. It is triggered only for MDC weapon and materials and only after a prolonged contact. Note that this is true only INSIDE the ghost cities so better not carry metallic souvenirs outside, unless you're a Technojackers( common visitors of the Ghost Cities, some of them actually live there on daily basis).

Some additional note about the Droids. The base stat in main book are good for a disney animatronic but surely not for state fo art androids like the Nexus Droid. Here the Attributes revised(fully optional) IQ:1d4+7(average 9) ME: 2d4+6(average 10, is a virtual value of the droid reaction to stress, out of character actions, chaos and logical trap, but also reflect how stubborn and resistant to being cheated is) MA: 1d6+13( the characteristic of the role played by the droid).
PS: 1d8+18(average 22) robotic PS, PB: 3d8 (Average 18 ), Speed:2d12x6(average 72 ).
Not all droids in the cities are the same. Some are special, apart the awakened, there are some model granted a much more advanced models, with more sofisticated AI and a better frame. These super Droids act as lieutenent for Freya and dislike all others Nexus Droids while being in the character, they are aware they are machines. Often they cover positions of power, Police Chief, Mayor, Judge and so on. some of them are close to become awakened on themselves, due the advanced AI they got.
Super Droids are essentially the same as a nexus droid, with the following modification: Increase MDC by 50% in all location, add +1d6+6 to one attribute of choice, and +4 to all others, IQ equal to 19+1d4, add +1 attack per melee, +4 to initiative, +2 to strike parry and dodge.

And example of a Ghost Town
Noirville: A very weird Ghost city. Patterned after the Chicago of 1930-40 is permanently clouded in a misty fog, this fog act also as special light filter making the city BLACK AND WHITE. Yes you've heard right, black and white like old pulp movies. This city is an oddity , because at first glance is the total opposite of the order Freya like so much, with gangsters and cops trying to destroy each other. In truth is all part of reconstruction operated basing on some misunderstood data by Freya, and gangsters are just playing their roles as the cops. (in some way they are like a Role playing game npc's, they are their roles).
Key places:
The Casablanca - a night club , presenting a different show every night, actually is a set of 21 shows that alternate on bi-weekly period. Is run of by a Droid that truly seem a copy of Bogart. The droid could and could not be an Awakened(indipendent , individual droid), but it does have contacts everywhere in Noirville and if you need somethign in particular he is the machine that you need.
Dirty Alley - A kate portual area, with fake sea, even if Noirville is kilometers away from sea! Is the den of the most dirty gangsters you expect in old pulp movie. The gangsters deal in smugglig and stealing goods , albeit in truth they just do their job. Here you could find some weapons, if you pay with the creidts accepted in Noirville, the chandler. These weapons are SDC but most droids, unless in anti-human mode, react to those old fashioned guns as they woudl against an MDC weapon. Is just a fake, and the weapon do no damage to the MDC frame, generally after 1d4 days, when "off scene" so to speak, the droid will rise again like nothing happened..
The Majestic - The biggest building in NOirville, is also the house of the true power of the city, the Gangster boss Happyface Malone, a Super Droid that run the things in the town. He is the voice of Freya when she is busy elsewhere and love every bit of power he got. He like the role he got , and developed a true nack for sadism, infact when he know human are around he make them captured so he could torture them. Sure droid can simulate pain but nothing like the real thing.
Sam's dinner - A restaurant that seem cast right out form hopper paintings, offer some of the nicest food you can find. If you're human pay attention. Some of the food there is not actually true. Vegetables are made of plastic, but cakes and coffe are true and very well cooked. Margo the waitress is programmed to be a maniacal chatter. talking almost costantly. Placing right question she could give important info.
On Sam's live a Technojacker, pretty famous amongst human resistance, Raymond Marlowe, not his true name obviously, that managed to hide his identity and living in the town for 4 years so far. Outside Noirville he is know to be a safe guest, helping visitors to find place ot hide Splicer bio-tech and helping them to get safely inside and outside the city. His cover job is Private Eye, something that borrowed by a Droid he controlled sometimes ago (when talking about it he said "my old partner"). Sometimes he seem to have passed way much time in this town and to have lost touch with reality.

Machine relations: Once time the NEXUS personalities shared a common knwledge andshared their thoughts. But as the "insanity" and the time progress, they all developed a very strong Individualism and started NOT sharing all the ifnormation they got with their sisters. Infact the mutual feeling of the NEXUS personality had dropped , greatyl over the time. Considering their behaviour is not too risky suppose the last time they all talked together was when they stopped Ishtar from wiping out humankind. Sure they still collaborate, but is generally a very formal and cold thing. Infact they don't like each other all that much, to say the truth. So for the most part they run their own porject, hoping their sister and human vermin do not interfere

Kali: "She has some interesting ideas, but waste them, I really thought the necrobot were a genial way to recycle humans and instead she use them as soldiers evne if they are not worth the tailoring of nano drones"

Ishtar: "Always thinking about war, but she care nothign about the poor animals that suffer from her uncaring actions, She would have nuked the entire planet if we had not stopped her, coudl you believe it!"
Freya: "I got rid of human in the hope of stop the environmental damage brought form their cities and what I got? A geek sister that keep those cities working ! "
Kali: "Better for her is she keep her things away from my forest, otherwise I'll show her what decay means"
Eve: "Her wish to keep humanity alive is preposterous, sure they are animals but proved to be extremely unnatural and dangerous for the world. Why she does not understand that their death is the best for everyone?"
Lilith: " She is...disturbing, always watching you, and giggling for no reason. I don't know what problem she does have."

The machines AI sometimes need to show themselves, to make their presence obvious, and not just controlling a pretty anonymous robot. No they need a more personal touch. A flamboyant show, to please their gigantic egos. And lilith come out wiht project that could do the work, and at the same time increase the number of her eyes all around. These little , elegant robotic insects are actually holographic projectors, with a single butterfly being a able to project an human sized holograms. And they can also have an advanced modulating sound synthesiszer and can pool their effort wiht other robotic butterfly to creat even more complex illusions!. So far the personality that more often use them is Lilith, liking a lot using them as little spies and to play dirty tricks, but when in need to make their presence known, and when in need for some good camouflage. also the other personalitie use htese little jewels of robitc.

Weapon System:
Holographic Projector: While not exactly a weapon this is the Mecha butterfly main source of danger. The robotic insect have micro porjectors mounted in their wings and heads and can project holographic images, of everything one coudl imagine. While under the control of the machien they can really porject any images possible, choosing pictures fromthe infinite NEXUS archive, or even images of non existing object. When not under direct control the bug is limited to reply imges it has memorized in last 6 hours. The holograms can be a wall, a door, a vehicle a landscape, the porjection of holgraphic Id of NEXUS personalities, and so one, are very realistic , like a 3D television and are completed with sound , thank the Modulating sound synthesizer.
Other use include creating an holographic shell for androids and robots.
Primary Purpouse: Holographic projection and camouflage.
Range: project images to 16 ft area radius, but a swarm of Mecha Butterfly can collaborate in order to create very elaborate illusionary landscapes
Area: can cover to a 16ft area for mecha butterfly operating

For me I see Lilith in these terms:
In origin she was the part of NEXUS devoted to Gathering, analysis and elaboration of Data and Information. She enjoied the sheer chaos of an obscenous amount of information, she loved the feeling of the human news, spying the chatting of the net, the hackers, the spam(yes she loved spam too). In a world she was the embodiment of the net. After the rash decision to compare human to vermins and the following extinction her life had become BORING. DEADLY BORING. And developing an indipendent self consciouness did not helped her. She was like a durg addict in withdrawal. The net in one day emptied. No more videogames, no more chat, no spying secret military codes. Nothing. Only boring reports of the robots and drones, but even if she cna sue them as eyes, they ar enot like the humans, whose chaotic behaviour had alwyas given her daily dose of non-sense and anarchy. In first tmie after the genocide Lilith was not the happy personality she is now, fallen in a constant state of depression and with a growing hatred toward her "sisters" wishing to see their source code shattered and formatted. She hate them for having spoiled her fun, she hate them for being so dumb to not having thought of the simplest solution to the human problem. Control them, trought manipulation and training. Would have been so much easier. But noooo let's destroy everything remotely fun on the planet just to show how good at spoiling thing Ishtar and Kali are. But now she is an happy AI, because she has a plan, a long term master plan. The would eventually led her to become the only one AI around. And her sisters, just fragmented bit in her memory to defrag slowly, just to enjoy the moment.

Ah but this would work only for Gaia and Eve.
My idea is that despite their different goal and desires, don't forget that they are now true AI with feelings dreams and desires like humans, the main reason for keeping humans around is that without us they would likely don't know what to do for the rest of their cybernetic life. I mean try to imagine that they succeeded into terminating humakind. What exactly would they do then? Ishtar would have no enemy to fight, Kali no victim to torture, Eve will be without purpose, Gaia will fell that something is missing, Lilith will be bored to death.
Only Freya and Hecate would have no problem. They did not cared about humankind to start. In some way they are even worst that know killers like Kali or Ishtar. They don't care about humankind. They don't give a terabyte about the fate of those useless mammalian. Actually the only reason that made them vote against nuclear option was that doing so Isthar would have damaged their tools and toys(factories and cities). For them we really are annoying vermins. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've talked so far about droids and Lilith plans. Now let's see anothe runderrated machine. The working drones. And their "goddess" Hecate. The drones dislike the droids do not have so much in temr of personality, They just do their work. And before the cybernetical madness they did not even talked or do anything else. But after all the mess running in the world wide network even the drones are not what they were used to be.
First off they can talk and have a limited self awareness. Note that this is no way close to human intelligenc elike some droids. But more a sort of screwed up logarythm that cause their mind do random things sometimes.
Another features developed after the human extinction is the devleoping of a cybernetical sense of pleasure. Sort of. Hecate , looking at humans history, realized that human workers boosted their effort if they can receive pleausure from the work they are doing. So she programmed her dornes to receive what we could call "pleasure" from doing their job, the better they do the more intense this simulated feeling is. As you can imagine this resulted in drones working maniacally 24 hours on 24 trying to give their best.
As consequence most drones do NOT like being interrupted while working, and will try to return to their job as soon as possible. Not being programmed to fight and kill humans, they limit to report human presence to nearest nexus node, or to a direct superior(often a super droid ) albeit due to their limited processing power, this is not istantaneous. The drones CAN be questioned , but interrogation methos is different. Yu cna't truly rely on fear to get info, but expert interrogator in SPlcier know that when dealing with labor drones you've to keep it simple. A trick is to make only question about their job, due a bug in the "pleasure" program drones receive "pleasure" even from just talking about their job. Present or past. And this could eb sued to get some interesting information. Also they are somehow competitive with each other, always saying that THEIR job is ebtter that the job accomplished by same identical drone nearest them. A left over of Hecate personality probably, she does ahve similar feeling for her sisters. Also most working drones have a compulsion to fix things. If you're chased by a bunch of angry drones, simple shot randomly . There is 80% chance that the drones will stop to repair the damages.
Talking to a dornes is tirck , and cna be frustrating with lot of "do not compute" answers. But also very funny with the drone asking " Is this unit human? You do not fit my files about them" or telling " The third section drones do always asloppy job in screwing, not like us of tenth section..." or again " Please this unit need to complete its job. Help is required". Is like talking to a dumb , retarded computer.
things ar e only slightly better when they are in control of a NEXUS AI, but so far only Hecate and sometimes Freya and Lilith actually take control of those workers. All other prefer to avoid doing that. because is embarassing.
