I'd say buy them. They are worth the investment as far as I am concerned.

My twin and I havn't played rifts in about 3 or four years(or PW) but he still buys all of the books just incase...

Its always a good idea to buy the books just in case you ever decide to play phase world. Anvil galaxy is a great read.
