Soundtrack for a Crazy!

Unread post by Grell »

Well, I like using some themed music in my games and was wondering what all you guys think a Crazy would have in his personal soundtrack? I may even make a comp CD out of it! How does "Lose It to Music" sound?

I'll get the ball rolling:

Track One: I wanna be sedated by The Ramones
"He who commands the kitchen commands the ship." -C. Magewind, Ley Line Rifter and self proclaimed "Best Cook in the Three Galaxies"

"The question is not why the mechanoids kill the humanoids, but only why nobody did it sooner." -Killer Cyborg

Beat on the Brat...

Unread post by Subjugator »

I think the following would be good:

Time Zone - World Destruction
Filler - Minor Threat
Institutionalized - Suicidal Tendencies
Beat on the Brat (With a Baseball Bat) - The Ramones
Wipeout - Toy Dolls (cover)
Four Minute Warning - Chaos UK
Banned from the Pubs - Peter and the Test Tube Babies
Bloodstains - Agent Orange
Isotope Soap - Geza X
Man With the Dogs - Dead Kennedys
Red Blanket Room - Circle Jerks

...and for the juicers...

Live Fast, Die Young - Circle Jerks

That's all I can think of offhand.
There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.

I can see an illustration of that nearly every time I come here.

One could also throw Drug Me by the Dead Kennedys into that Juicer mix! Nice to know I'm not the only one who likes the Kennedys (the dead ones that is).

I see a Crazy's mix being much, MUCH more eclectic than punk-speedy in terms of musical selections.

Now, for a Juicer, those songs would make perfect sense...

But I see a Crazy having more of really weird selections next to each other (perhaps several tracks of like a minute and a half of silence).
"Things aren't what they used to be" is the rallying cry of small minds. When men say things used to be better, they invariably mean they were better for them, because they were young, and had all their hopes intact. The world is bound to look a darker place as you slide into the grave.

It would be foolish to think that a Crazy would only listen to punk and metal! That's why I started this thread, to get a whole butt-load of input from everyone!

Will Defoe was GENIUS in Boondock Saints!

I can also see a crazy having The Bangels' Manic Monday and Walk Like An Egyptian in his/her mix as well!! Also some Gary Glitter and Wizard too (Glam rock represent!).

I concur.......

I can see a Crazy jammin to the Beach Boys simply for the Charlie Manson connection.

crazies would listern to anything in any order, any song that would be thought of as hardcore punk to a classic showtune to country to rap to bluegrass to punk to honky tonk to hard metal to a childern song to hip hop to new age to classical to jazz to soft rock to pop to a disney tune to blues to ?

or maybe two or three songs at once

like sound of music , metallica's hit the lights and blue moon blend togethor
while we might go "what is this noise?"
the crazy might go " its a great song"

I'm a BIG DK fan. AFAIK, I have everything they've officially done. I'm a bit disappointed with Biafra/Boucher's behavior lately. It's pretty disgusting - he lives in a multimillion dollar house, gripes about the rich guys that cheat people, and hoses his friends.

I dunno - just kinda bugs.

What's wrong with eclectic? That doesn't mean crazy! Heck, I've got Disney CDs, next to Animaniacs CDs, next to Circle Jerks CDs, next to Irish Rovers CDs, next to Baroque classical music CDs.

I believe that the song 500 Miles was done by The Proclaimers! :D

These are all great tunes you list. I agree that most anything by Primus would be a must as well as unconventional combinations.

I'm hearing Crass overlaying some Beethoven? Anyone???

What about Blondie's "One way or another" or The Zombies' "Time of the season"?

Yeah, it's kinda weak how Jello boned his own buds like that, but whatcha gonna do? I got a 1979 concert video where Jello is WAY young. Lookin kinda like Sid Vicious....only cool! It was shot unprofessionally and the video cuts out at some points, but man it looks like it was one helluva show! Best investment I ever made for 7 dollars! :D I'd have to say that my favorite DK album is the In God We Trust Inc/Plastic Surgery Disasters album easily hands down. Top 4 songs on said album? Terminal Preppie, Well Paid Scientist, Moral Majority and Nazi Punks F*** Off! This could be the start of a beautiful friendship! Or an intense mutual hatred? :demon:

The Proclaimers are pretty obscure so I don't blame you for namin the wrong band. That is one of my top ten favorite songs though and totally suited to the Crazy soundtrack!

Ya know, the more I think about it, I can see Hakuna Mutat'ha having a definate place on the soundtrack!!

So glad I started this thread!

P.S. Sub, have you heard Sepultura's cover of Drug Me? It's intense!!!

Strangely enough, why wouldn't a crazy have Winnebego Warrior OR I am the Owl on their list?

What, no Dr Demento, (more) Wierd Al, Monty Python (they did release an album), Shrek Soundtrack, Green Jelly, and/or Cartoon theme-songs. Of course, there's always Sesame Street if your really crazy...

And for those crazies with style problems, who can forget the Village People.

Or maybe they've got a sense of humor and listen to stand-up comics like George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Dennis Leary, Bobcat Goldthait, Jeff Foxworthy, Adam Sandler, and/or Robin Williams (of course...there's always Robots...).

How could I forget the Village People?? Stupid, stupid, stupid!! :D

No wait, this just might inspire a Crazy to jump into combat wearing nothing more than a hardhat and short shorts with suspenders. Yeah, I think I'm good.

Speaking of the good Doctor, I could see a crazy man having "boot to the head" in the mix! :D

Gothic jocks, eh? I like that for a basic character synopsis!

As far as Powerman 5K goes, I could see Nobody's Real as opposed to When Worlds Collide (maybe for an AI soundtrack!).

what about?

I do not like "Kevin's Vision" of the Crazies/M.O.M.s

I look at Rifts China's Lightning Warriors as a better example of playing a Crazy.

No Kooky/animanics/freakazoid Crap. I let Players PICK Insanities that Fit what has been going on in the Game. No Random rolling afraid of Spiders if no spiders-monsters have been in the game.

As you can tell i HATED WW's Malkavians for this reason too.

Crazy doesnt mean Kooky/Zanny/Cornball antics.
Crazy should be Dark, forboding, and Dangerous.
More Hanibble Lecter, Dr.Doom, Baron Hog (Dune), and Freedy Krugger insanities.

In the original Crazy you had the option of rolling/choosing Crazy Hero at level 4 instead of Power by Association or Multiple Personalities etc. It was described as being a cross between Daffy Duck and Errol Flynn and I think that has made all crazies since then in that mold, although unless you roll/choose that there was no reason to play them that way.
The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

Anything by Talking heads would be good, 'Psycho killer', 'Road to Nowhere' etc. with the crazy mimicing David Byrne's mannerisms.

I dunno, I think a psycopathic crazy with the mannerisms of Daffy Duck and telling bad jokes would be pretty frightening.

"What's white, blue, black and red all over little boy? Your mom if she doesn't give me all her f***in money!! Woo Hoo! Wooo Hoooooo! Ain't I a stinker?" --Overheard by a Crazy just before murdering a family out in front of a grocery store and disappearing into the alleys.

I think crazies were designed to be tragic with Juicers left to the job of being more scary in their power.

please dont get me started on the china books :x I rather use england then both of them books, typical its a rifts version of mystic china. as for the lightning warriors, its more of the case of all the bonuses and no negatives BS.
I dont let them picks thier own insanities, they normally pick the ones that would help them in some way, but i do tailor them to the character

A crazy would have an I-pod . . .

Set to shuffle . . .

With 783 copies . . .

Of the same song . . .

And he dances differently to each one.

In a way I agree with TechnoGothic in the need for more "dark" crazys, but I also really enjoy the goofie, zaney one.

As to allowing people to pick their insanities, if they have a good RP track record with little tendancies toward powergaming/munchkinizim, I allow it; however, if they do exibit these qualities, I will approve/veto their selection. I think it only fare that they select something that they want for their character. Fortunatly for me, my group, though capable of powergaming, rarely exibit those tendancies.
sure a crazy playing an disney soundtrack to Beauty and the Beast in the background and bouncing all over the place as he does a scene from hostel on you, yup that szoony/goofy  alright.
its all in how the crazy is handled, Joker is a great example of what a crazy disposition would be.

isn't one of the problems with MOM tech the fact it short circuts the brain? creating inasinties and conditions that should never have developed?

i'd have them develop appropriate insanities as they come, but leave the automatic ones due to level at a random basis (though alowing a player to reroll ones they don't like.)
likewise, the character is likely to be slightly nuts to start, so the inhibition lowering effect of the MOM means wierd outbursts and thought patterns. (kinda like little kids, they just don't quite grasp certain concepts, or have less control)

i just figure the loony toons antics of kevin's Crazies to mean he always played ones with Manic-depressive disorder.

Has anyone mentioned Captain Beefheart or early (Sid Barrett) Pink Floyd?
