That would be Professor X, not Mr. X. Mr. X is the bad guy you have to catch in the Scottland Yard game.

Okay, I see the error of my ways... :)

"Mr. X" in the poll is "Professor X." My apologies for getting it wrong.

Still, I think that he could take out Superman with his mental power. Superman is quite strong and fast and just plain cool, but I think "X" would take him out in a heartbeat because Superman doesn't have much of a defense against mental powers.

I'm surprised that Professor X didn't win the poll. Perhaps I'm overlooking something, or perhaps it's the case of "everyone's wrong but me."

WHO can take out Superman? Is there anyone out there that could do so?

I'm a little bit of comic book buff, but this poll was limited to movie versions of heroes. Can any movie hero/villain take the guy out?

Movie Magneto.

Why?

See if you can follw this chain of logic:
1) In the movies, it seems like they said that Superman is solar powered as he is in the comics.
2) Visible light and heat are part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
3) Magneto controls magnetism but has also shown ability to control or resist other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. My main reference point for this is from the X Men cartoon series of the early 90s where Storm tried to lightning zap Magneto and failed.
4) In recent issues of Action Comics, Doctor Polaris, DC's magnetic bad guy really put a savage beat down on Superman by blocking yellow Solar radiation getting to superman.
5) He's Ian McKellan, so he wins.
This is indeed a disturbing universe.

Superman.
In the fashion of Infinite Crisis, he simply punches the walls of reality, and seals the win.
when you get right down to it, Sentinel's right.~Uncle Servo.

Sentinel. you'll be always loved by the German Princess.~Nelly

That's twice in one day Sentinel has cleaned up my mess.~The Galactus Kid.

That's the best place to start. Otherwise, listen to Sentinel~lather

Competitions like this are so hard to qualify.
Getting the various characters to actually fight each other with no motivation to do so has an impact on who would do what, and to what degree.
Characters' moral orientations would prevent them from using their abilities in a lethal manner, which in turn impacts the outcome.
And then there are always situational incidents that can impact the outcome.

Really, I find the best way to look at these competitons is to look objectively at their abilities on paper, and compare those to each one the other.
Strength, speed, agility, etc, see how it stacks up in numbers, and make that determination.
Obviously, in a foot race, Flash is faster than Quicksilver: anything else is situational, and enviornmentally dependant (Speed Force, and all that).
Namor is stronger than Aquaman ("1,000 Adult Men" and all that), so with no outside interferrance or distractions, that contest is pretty well told.
And so on.
Maybe Wolverine is a killer, and the Hulk is not: all I care about is how their numbers add up. A different writer can always make the Hulk a killer (remember Mr. Fixit? I'm sure he would have no objections to being a MAX character, and getting a little blood on his hands). And a different writer can make Wolverine more of an introspective Samurai and less of a casual killer (oh, wait: they did that for a while).

Also, if these are the movie versions of the characters, then the FF will know each other and the X-Men will know each other but otherwise these people are all going to be strangers to each other. No one is going to know how powerful Superman is. Presumably, Pro. X could read everyones basic powerful level fairly quickly but if he doesn't shutdown Superman then Supes mops the floor with everybody. Wolvie has no chance.

By the description of the fight, the heroes can't work together to free themselves and they know it's a fight to the death. As such, Wolvie's "killer instinct" becomes meaningless. All the X-Men know about his healing factor. If Pro X or Magneto doesn't shut him down I get the feeling that Phoenix could have atomized him if she had really wanted to.

I so wanted to go with Doom on this. I'm a huge hulk fan but you just can't keep the blue boy down.
