About X-fering to Rifts...

Unread post by Colt47 »

Alright I got a commando Mercenary, and I'm bringing him over to a Rifts game. First of all, I need to know something: does that education bonus get added to all of the skills from the skill programs or just the starting language skills and the mathematics? Mostly asking because as it sits right now my character has more skills than a CS Special forces, higher initial skill percentages, and superior hand to hand combat. Probably the only thing I'll be lacking is the gear required to SURVIVE in a mega-damage environment.

Also, do those authentic $5,000+ katana and wakizashi become rune weapons on Rifts Earth as described in Rifts: Japan?
Norbu the Enchanter: Hello friends! What brings you to my shop today?

Big Joe: We need some things enchanted to take a beating...

Norbu: Perhaps you want your weapons enchanted? Or maybe a shield or sword? I can even enchant armor!

Big Joe: We need you to enchant this Liver, this heart, and these kidneys.

Norbu:

IIRC, all.

you'll prolly have better stats too...
again IIRC, N&SS characters average around 35 skills...
everywhere else, around 20-25.
so yeah, you're better suited for just about any job... but then, culture shock should kick in fast... 'specially if you have alot of tech skills...

Also, do those authentic $5,000+ katana and wakizashi become rune weapons on Rifts Earth as described in Rifts: Japan?

that's truely a GM call. as you're not a Rifts character, or BtS (the past of Rifts) it's hard to say for certain.
i'd say sure, but that's prolly 'cause it's an easy way to give the character a fightin chance...
I believe Socrates said it best at, "I drank what?"

"JESUS SAVES! The rest of you take full damage."

They call me Hadoken 'cause I'm down-right fierce.

The other issue is that some of the N&SS skills, especially some of the tech/gizmoteer skills are much, much more specialized then their Rifts versions. The other issue is again, much of the tech skills are going to be outdated at best. The same with many language skills.

For the most part if your merc has energy weapon skills, and can get access to Rifts quality weapons and armor fairly quickly they will be in good shape. Even if the character just has the standard small arms and heavy weapons skills they should be able to quickly pick up Ramjet using guns, grenade launchers and missiles and use them to good effect. Plus they can pick up a few new skills to fill the holes as shown in CB1.

See Rifts Conversion Book 1 for the conversions of N&S to Rifts.

Come on, KS... answer the question about rune weapons. You know you want to. And that Rifts Japan came out after CB1, so it won't have the answer... tell us how you really feel... ;-)

Bah, everyone knows how I feel about that ridiculous idea.

I wonder what happens when I get a techno wizard to play with my katana...
