Sixth (mostly) Annual Martial Art Contest
Yes, it's that time once again.
This contest is supposed to inspire entrants to create a great new style just for the contest to awe and amaze everyone else with how cool the style is (though not how powerful the style is, styles built purely to be more powerful than any other style out there most likely wouldn't be used in games where serious gamers are going to play, simply because people who tend to use styles like that aren't looked favorably upon in the gaming community, and the people who don't play the most powerful whatever in games would be looking for playable styles that add flavor and character to the game).
The Rules
#1. All entries that wish to qualify must be new and original. In other words, no reposting from the Palladium message boards, no reposting from a website or online, no re-entry of styles from the last contests, no resposting of PMAN arts, and no reposting of Rifter styles. However, people who wish to redo styles from Ninjas & Superspies or Mystic China may do so, as long as it fits the remaining requirements (i.e. not reposted from the PMAN, Rifter, or another online source). This also means you can't create a style, post it to another place and the message boards and then post it to the contest. If you want to post it in multiple places, enter it in the contest first.
#2. No conversions of martial arts from anime, video games, other RPGs, or comic books. Please follow this rule. Remember, "Do not post any conversions of intellectual properties belonging to other people."
#3. The rules are based on a N&S/MC standard. However, contestants wishing to adapt how a combat move works from one of Palladium's other existing games may do so, provided a note about the source of the rule is included for modifications or new (to N&S) rules from Palladium's other games. All new combat moves should be explained.
#4. When using terms from another language, please provide a translation with the style entry. Style names and terms should have a standard usage throughout the style, though the author may indicate that their may be other usage/translations for the term/name.
#5. How powerful the style is won't be taken into consideration when judging for the winning categories.
#6. All entries wishing to qualify must follow the standard format presented below. For the ease of the judge, and those of us who care to look, please use the form below for your entry to the contest. Also, use bold tags and possibly italic tags to separate and define elements within your entry. I also recommend parentheses be used for explaining those new combat moves, to both separate them from the other combat moves and for ease of reading. While the standard format is mandatory, some minor changes can be instituted (i.e. different skill categories, though NOT different combat move categories), the format for everyone's style should look like it was in the N&S book.
#7. These entries should look professional and well done. That means use spell check to check the spellings of your words, do not use non-Palladium standard abbreviations, use correct punctuation, make your grammar understandable (I don't care if it's perfect grammar, but if no one can understand your statement, that's not good). Capitalize all combat moves for both combat move entries and level advancement bonuses. USE BOLD CODES AS LISTED IN THE SAMPLE STYLE ENTRY. Not only does this look more professional, it makes the style easier to read.
#8. Authors of styles which would be disqualified for failing to meet the rule criteria for the style will be given a chance to correct or resubmit an entry to the contest if their entry is invalidated before the end of the contest.
#9. Contestants may enter as many styles as they wish, as long as the rules are followed.
