Consortium - Splugorth relations...

Unread post by Braden Campbell »

Now the the manuscript for Sourcebook 2 is in the mail, I'm slowly compiling ideas for Thundercloud Galaxy, which brings me to this:

How much do the CCW and the various Splugorth Kingdoms get along?

In Anvil Galaxy, we are told that 50 years ago, the CCW was in the middle of "negotiations" with Rynncryll, until the guy went mad and attacked everybody. The same book also says that the CCW is is open war with tow or three of them at a time, and has no formal contact with the others.

But "negotitaions" has got me thinking. Given that the Consortium would rather be stockpiling weapons to use against the TGE someday, might they not be looking for some kind of "peaceful co-existence" with the Splugorth?

Thoughts on any of this?

And on a related thought... whom would the CCW rather ally with: Splugorth, or 50,000-year-old god-like vampire spiders?

Some kind of truce maybe? But each has a completely separate ideology. The slavery I see as a big issue, plus the poor treatment of humans and similar d-bees in general. Friends no, allies no, distant neighbors maybe. I would think they would keep each other at arms length (or tentacle).

I think it's more of the CCW, while at war with the Splugorth, tries to ignore them as much as they can.

Why? Because it's obvious the bigger threat is the TGE and if the CCW did put the muscle into finally taking the Splugorth down (which they likely could do with ease) they would be open to TGE attack.

In short, the CCW can deal with the Splugorth or the TGE, not both at the same time - so they focus on detering the bigger danger.

I agree w/ Jeffar on this...though I might say they would opt for a nonagression pact w/ a sploog or 2

Those are sound ideas as far as I am concerned too. :)
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

I'd say yes to the vampire spiders.

That's always the problem with using a poison and not a naturally occuring predator.

So back during the First Great War (insinuating that there will someday be a Second one), the TGE in the Thundercloud was open to attack from the CCW. But there is also a Splugorth Kingdom in there... so now we have a clear case of the the Consortium and Dyssleth Kingdom fighting against a common foe.

Joint operations, or both sides agreeing not to fire on each other, just on the Kreeghor?

Sorry about the thread necromancy, but my thinking/writing has come back around to this notion of Splugorth/CCW co-operation.

The Civilization Compact is pretty much the Constitution of the CCW... and its First Freedom is Freedom from Slavery. Given this, how would Consortium "amnesty international" types go about freeing the enslaved races in the Splugorth Kingdoms or trying to convince the Splugorth to let them go?

We know that the CCW enters into negotiations with the Splugorth, so the second avenue, that of talking to them, is more likely than a military, Operation: Spartacus solution.

Just looking for thoughts on this, as it will tie into Thundercloud Galaxy a bit...

I definitley see diplomatic (and economic) pressure from the CCW being brought to bear on the Splugorth to try to free the slaves.

I also see special forces teams from the CAF and concerned private citizens trying to forment slave self liberation.

However, providing the SPlugorth keep their depredations on CCW worlds to a minimum, and provided the Kreeghor remain a clear and present danger, the CAF will not be unleashed agaisnt the Splugorth.

Sploogies and CCW:
Allies in WWII as example?
I mean the Soviet Union and the USA - they worked
together against the Axis. More interestingly, the luckier
half of the former III. Reich became the USA's foremost
supporter in the Cold Ward.

After all, the TGE have at least two major reasons to
shun the sploogs more than the CCW.
Their history (former slaves of the Sploog) and the
Dweller, who is basically manipulating the TGE.

-------------------
CCW anti-magic warfare:
There are the seeds, in the Noro - using psionics
vs. magic. At least the Coalition manages to do
it.

Adios
