PF Criticism Here Goes.

Unread post by Kythis »

At one time I did have a complaint about the selection of new releases for PF. To me they seem out of order as my one ever rant will show. Do not despair it does not directly imply a particular person, but does suggest that there is a single person at fault pulling the strings. I do believe now that this is a fallacy and the primary reason is most likely do to lack of good writers. I mean no disrespect or harm to anyone at Palladium. This is just a rant. Besides it is a well known fact that Kev's first love is Fantasy and every time I remind myself of that it gives me a fuzzy worm feeling.

Tally Hoe Men! Off to the lands of the unknown Old Kingdom. OH, NO, Not there! Yes! it is the Old Kingdom, I speak of. A place of forgotten relics, and yet possessing such a lustrous history, that dates back to the very beginnings of palladiums recorded time. A well documented land by scholars of the present and past, for all know it is the mother land from which all present civilizations sprung. WHAT THE BLEEPEDDEY BLEEP BLEEP ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! You got to be kidding me! There's no way you can be refereing to the Land of NO WRITER CAN FINISH OLD KINGDOM. Hey I got an Idea, we've written some books on the eastern southern hemisphere and western southern hemisphere RIGHT, lets go and get that huge spot in the middle done. What was it again Oh ya the OLD KINGDOM. You know that way we would have our written books joined together in some kind if SEQUENCE or PURPOSE in stead of jumping around AIMLESSLY.
GOOD JOB TEAM, way to go getting that VITAL section to our southern hemisphere started, AWESOME COVER PICTURE the fans seem to love it. Now I need you to do one more little thing for me SCRATCH IT ALL, DUMP IT IN THE TRASH, FORGET THAT I'LD EVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT! MATTER OF FACT, WORK ON EVERYTHING BUT THAT ONE AND IF YOU RUN OUT OF IDEAS THINK UP SOMETHING TRULY UNNECESSARY TO PUBLISH. LIKE, A BOOK SOLEY ON MAGICAL THINGS LYING AROUND PALLADIUM. WHO TRULY CARES ABOUT FANTASY FANS ANYWAYS, IT'S ONLY THE ORIGINAL SETTING FROM WHICH ALL ROLEPLAYING WAS INVENTED "UH Um, I bet WotC does they only have the best selling system on the market EVER though I can't stand them!".
Your forever maintained fan surviving the pit falls.

Uhm, yeah. Me thinks someone is unhappy. (By the way, I agree that they should just get the Old Kingdom out of the way. Also, Land of the Damned 3 anyone? ARGH!!!! lol) 8)
This world is far too small not to want to see it all, but life is far too short to allow that to happen. - Falcon, Ranger (My primary hero in PFRPG setting)

"Unhand me you slobbering son of an Orcish whore!" - Ariana Moonstone, Palladin (Another primary character of mine.)

"Bastard!" War cry of Strut, Barbarian Mercenary. (That's for you James!)

While not denying you on your rant, I must correct one little tidbit of information to correct you. The Old Kingdom books were written by Randi Cartier (IIRC). In fact it was soo much info that instead of filling two books it poured over into a third. Kev had to edit the stuff from what i recall and it has been bout 10 years editing....thou Im sure it is in the back shelf or else where. Perhaps those closer in the know can re-fill us in on those details.

Also IIRC, LOD3 has not been touched and possibly remain that way for a while. At least until another writter for PF comes along that Kev can trust. That seems to be the biggest issue with PF line, Kev must find someone he can trust with his "baby". Eric was one, then Bill Coffin...who knows, our very own Mr. Nexx could be next (still waiting for his Mysterious of Magicto come out). Until then I say rant on, game on, and move on.
We may be through with the past, but the past is not through with us.

I like your style and thanks for the correction. I mustn't of been too far off, I did state that I now think the real problem is lack of good writers and we seem to agree on that. By the way, are you going to the PB OH? I'll be attending except for VIP night. I underestimated the nessecity to buy my VIP tickets early. Why did Bill Coffin quit? Does anyone know?

Now to another issue. Does anyone know if there is a attribute check system for Palladium? For example say a PC does not have the surveillance skill how does he go about noticing* (*Yes I wanted to say SPOT but I reframed from affiliating with inferiority.) something that the GM has deemed hard to notice* and would require such a check or any other ability that would be innate but the skill isn't present. I'm not looking for any house rule to do this I am specifically looking for something from Palladium. Even some unofficial option from the Rifter would be cool. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it.

I read an interview online with Bill Coffin siting some differences he'd had with Kevin. It went more into detail than that, but I'll not elaborate here. As to attribute checks, specifically of the kind you mentioned, check out the surveillance skill. It's in the espionage skill package in N&SS. (If you don't have this book, send me a message and I'll try and see you get a copy of the skill, at least.)

If you search these boards, you might be able to find more insioght to why Bill parted Palladium Books, more can also be found over in RPG.net. From what i recall it was due to some differences.

The attribute check "spot" can actualy be perception rule used in BtS2nd edition, RUE, and Nightbane.

I don't have any BtS2 or Nightbane books but I do have a RUE and I don't know why I didn't see it in there. I would really love it if you could tell me what page it's on.
