How to you use them Shields?

Just wondering how you guys play shields. I have allows played that shields only take damage when targeted? I was reading alien and unlimit and page 191 said. A shield suffers damage only on a called shot that is directed at the shield itself.

If the shield is targeted, I say that the shield takes full damage, otherwise when you target nearly any such item, it would take half damage, like doors.

Optional Rules in palladium fantasy say that the sheild takes damage from an attack reduced by 10%

So an attack dealing 5 damage would deal 3 to the shield.

Offical rules, therefore, is that the sheild takes the full damage of the attack
