My favourite stroll through Zombie Town I played in was with RECON characters and rules though.

I enjoyed Nightbane the one and only time I got to play. I do not really remember any details, but I remember that I thought it was a lot of fun.

Oh yeah... wished I had time to game though.. it'd be sooo great to actually game such a thing. We've got that Zombie Game here and we just love slaying Zombies.

Having booz, some fine rockmusic in the background, being with your best friends and slaying zombies... what else can someone ask for?

And don't answer the question with "Getting laid..." :p

Yup.

well I don't have that problem though. I got a boyfriend and miss gaming a little. But then again I just have to watch evil dead 2, cuddle up and have some coconut rum-coke and I am the happiest girl in the world.

As long as Zombies get slaid though :D

The correct answer is "more ammo" because you're already knee deep in zombie.

I'll be knee deep in Zombie this Friday. We are heading to Castle Frankenstein and they have this Halloween Zombie Horror Show. I've said that I'd bring my chainsaw but somehow my bf said it would be a bad idea .... :?

Come on.. they're zombies, right? ..... Right?

Let's hope not.

I love the Dead Reign, can't wait for it!! Here's a little jingle for the Zombies. :-D

Zombie song:

Chorus:
Man heads, man heads,
rollie-pollie man heads.
man heads, man heads,
eat them up, yyuuummp!

End Chorus.

You can rip a man head off it's body.
You can then eat its eyes and brains.

Chorus

and then make up your own lines. For those of you who don't know its sung to the tune of: Fish Heads

If you know all the lines of that song you are as demented as me

Big Bob........................... :D
[/i]
Mephisto: You have some morbid fantasies. I like it (okay)
pblackcrow:"If anyone deserves this it's you! (thwak) LOL...All in fun."
Natasha: Bob you're deadly. I like it.
Misfit KotLD: You're Gamer Bi-Polar.
Sanford: Excellent concept, Big Bob!

Anyhoo...

One of the things thats been on my mind regarding the Dead Reign book is the flavor-text (you know, the little stories in italics that add flavor to the thing). The original concept was to do all of the flavor text in the format of audio and video broadcasts by survivors (such as the one at the beginning of the Rifter 40 Dead Reign preview). Then I saw the Cloverfield trailer, and noticed that the movie appears to be in the same format; video footage from survivors of whatever it is thats attacking NYC. So, I got to thinking that we might catch some heat for using the same format as Cloverfield (albeit in text form) and began working on some flavor-text in the usual narrative format.

As of now, I'm thinking I'll just do both, send em in, and let the Powers that Be at Palladium decide which to use. What do you guys and gals think?

That'd be the way I'd go.
PB willl probably use a little of both.
Be at peace, my people. All shall be looked up.

I agree you should send in both. Let the "Powers that be" decide. I hope they do a little of both. Like finding bits of survivor or not notes/journals accompanied with flashbacks of other survivors. Adding bits of news flashes and newspaper stories. Well, you get the idea. A variety of flavor texts from different views and memories as to what happened.

Radioactive Zombies For Dead Reign.

In this genre the zombies are the typical slow zombies. In addition to the deadly bite, a zombie may deliver radiation sickness to the victim with a successful claw attack. Plus, the greater number of zombies in a concentrated area, the more rads one is exposed to due to close proximity. The radiation exposure to PCs is up to your individual campaign. I use the following number of radioactive zombies in a mob per amount-irradiated exposure. 1-9=similar to x-ray exposure, 10-20=lightly, 21-50=moderately, 51-100=highly, 101+=severely.

Radiation Sickness Delivered by Scratch/Claw: Save vs. Lethal Toxins 14. If failed, death will occur in 2 to 14 days (Roll 1d10 + 1d4). Then will need to Save vs Coma/Death.

Radiation Sickness due to Exposure:
X-ray Exposure: Save vs. Non-Lethal Toxins 16 + 1 10 minutes of radiation exposure.
Light Exposure: Save vs. Lethal Toxins 14 + 1 per 5 minutes of radiation exposure.
Moderate Exposure: Save vs. Lethal Toxins 14 + 1 per 2 minutes (8 melee rounds) of radiation exposure.
High Exposure: Save vs. Lethal Toxins 14 + 1 per 1 minute (4 melee round) of radiation exposure.
Severe Exposure: Save vs. Coma/Death after 1 minute (4 melee round) of radiation exposure.

Now, not all the zombies need to be radioactive (and no they do not glow in the dark). These could be found in or around a former nuclear power plant, which left unattended, went awry. Near the obvious nuked area.(Maybe in an self-destruct attempt to destroy the "lab facility" that spawned them.) Or from a nuclear powered aircraft carrier/submarine at port or drifted ashore somewhere unleashing their undead crew.

This is just an idea, please feel free to use and adjust as you see fit. Feedback welcome.

Effects of Radiation Exposure on Human Health
Nausea
Vomiting
Headache
Some Loss Of White Blood Cells
Hair Loss
Damage To Nerve Cells And The Cells That Line The Digestive Tract.
Radiation Victims Highly Vulnerable To Disease
Victims Of Radiation Sickness Are Also Vulnerable To Hemorrhaging.
Suffer From Fever And Diarrhea
Death Occurs Within Two To Fourteen Days.

Thanks, Big Bob................ :D

I was re-reading the Dead Reign in Rifter #40. In prep for a campaign. I noticed it stated that the zombies ate animals if no humans were about. Then it further stated that the Z-virus cannot infect the dead animals to rise as undead zombie animals.

I would suggest (and I am going to allow) that dogs only can be infected.
Say about 10-20% chance. Or if the dogs survive the attack (just bitten) they will become as rabid dogs being ignored by the zombies and they ignore them. The rabid dogs in effect become carriers of the Z-virus.

After all, characters being chased by Z-dogs is scary stuff and GM mean  :erm:

FINALLY got to run a Dead Reign campaign last sunday.
It was pretty sweet, the group played charcter versions of themselves, with skills and attributes reflecting their real life abilities. I GMed and ran a PC Josh. Virtually all the encounters were initiated with random tables. The scenario was we had all gthered at Disney World (we all live in the area IRL) and during lunch, the Z-Virus took hold. It became "Escape from the Theme Parks"! My group had NO IDEA what was coming at them, none had read rifter 40. It was a blast!

On that note I got to thinking, the setting for DR in the rifter is several weeks or months after the initial "zombification". In the final product, I hope there is detailed information on the first hours and days after the event. My theory is that most utilities, being largely automated, would function for a time then eventually begin to fail. Our group made limited use of cell phones when we split into teams, and automated gas pumps (ATM charge, bank of america will never deny a charge) to save time instead of tapping the resere benieth the station.

I was specifically curious about automated travel, like tanker ships and airplanes. Once in the air, a plane is on auto pilot. I asked my brother in law (commercial airline pilot) and he tells me that should no one be available to take over after the plane reaches its last directional beacon, the auto pilot will continue straight and level until the aircraft runs out of fuel. Just something to think about, DR writers :)

Looking forward to the full product!

Side Note: If big bad things ever really go down, seek out Bob the desolate one. He's remarkably prepared for catastrophes of most any making. If not for his leadership, our group would surely be shuffling around seeking living flesh right now. :ok:
Be at peace, my people. All shall be looked up.

YOU AND YOUR CHAINSAW
“Keeping your chainsaw operating smoothly to slice and dice zombies is essential to survival in these trying times. I am here to teach and entertain you on the care of your chainsaw.”

(Written on chalkboard) Class: Guide to Servicing your Chainsaw. Your speaker, Keith Kingston

“Hello class, my name is Mr. Keith Kingston, you may call me Keith.” (Shuffle notes)

“Chainsaws provide many years of service for very little upkeep. Taking the time to service your chainsaw will help ensure that your equipment will not let you down. For safety reasons, make sure you only service your chainsaw when it is fully cooled, with the spark plug disconnected. If you are working with an electric chainsaw make sure it is unplugged first of all. You should also wear gloves and protection for your eyes.

For safe and effective operation having correct chain tension is necessary. As the chain wears, significant stretching will occur. After five to ten cuts a new chain may need to be readjusted. Separation from the guide bar or binding into bone….er…wood can occur if the chain is loose. A tight chain will cause premature chain and guide bar wear. A chain that is well adjusted will move easily and smoothly when pulled by a gloved hand. Binding or sagging by the chain should not occur. The chain tension should be checked and adjusted if needed before every use.

A manual or automatic chain oiling system is used in most chainsaws. Friction and heat builds between the chain and guide bar without oil. The oil also helps the individual links in the chain operate smoothly at high speeds. Check the oiling system prior to every use.

Tighten all of the screws and fasteners. This process should be done before every use. Before using your chainsaw each time you need to inspect the fuel system.

After every 10 hours of use you need to clean or replace the air filter. By replacing the air filter on a regular basis your chainsaw will be able to run cooler and use less fuel.

The sprocket tip should be lubricated after every 10 hours of use. You will know that lubrication is complete when a small amount of grease appears at the edge of the guide bar near the sprocket.

For every 10 hours of use the guide bar should be turned. Flip the guide bar over to promote an even wear pattern on the bottom and top of the bar. Inspect the spark plug after every 10 hours of use and clean or replace as necessary.

For every 10 hours of use the spark arrester screen should be inspected and cleaned and replaced when necessary. The spark arrester screen prevents sparks from leaving the exhaust port and hurting the operator or falling on flammable materials.

The fuel filter should be replaced after every 20 hours of use. Poor performance can result if the filter becomes clogged.

To ensure the maximum performance perform the following procedures as needed to prolong the life of your chainsaw. Take your chainsaw to an authorized dealer if the carburetor needs adjustment. (pause….laughter….) The chain blades should be sharpened periodically as they become dull.

If you cannot find an authorized dealer or you cut off his head, (more laughter) just ‘procure’ another one from his/her shop. (Laughter).

Oh, and always have a back up weapon; swords do not need refueling or reloading….

That concludes the class, bye and good hunting?? Luck??” He leaves. (Uneasy feeling in room and murmuring).”

The best I can figure a chainsaw of various horsepower, size, etc. uses from .5oz to 3oz. of fuel per minute. So, if we use 2 oz. per minute as a rough average (or just because). It would be .5 oz per 15 second round. This is getting to be too much math. So, we change it to "charges" or "rounds in drum" like so.

We round up or down the fuel tank capacity to the nearest whole number. CS40 John Deere chain saw has a fuel cap of 13.5oz. Rounded to 14oz. 14oz divided by .5 oz per 15 second round = 28 “charges” or “rounds in drum” in the gas tank of the chainsaw. After one Melee Round, user has 27 charges left, after next round, 26 charges, etc. This is based on continuous running of the chainsaw during the entire round. I will have PC/NPC subtract 1 full charge if they start up or shut it off during a round. Bookkeeping would be a nightmare for me not to do so.

This is how I have PC/NPC to keep track of fuel consumption. What do you all think?

GMs feel free to use and abuse this idea.
