"What if the continuity of the ____ dimension was falling apart at the seams? So many worlds and dimensions overwhelming the fabric of reality that the PCs are hurled into other dimensions that are in danger of the same fate or in the very same process?

.......So what holds the megaverse together? How can I turn this into an epic campaign that will have PCs and NPCs from almost every dimension? Should it be a suicide campeign or just one of those classic save the day campeigns?

Who should be a "mega villian" so to speak? Should the ancient ones wake up or is it infact a few baddies who are trying to indeed wake them up? Like out classic villans from the FoM, the Splugorth, villans unlimited, Issac Crow, Merlin, or Cronus the alien intelligence?

:?

Not sure what you're really asking here.

What if the sudden eruption of the Ley Lines on Rifts Earth caused an imbalance in magical energy for the rest of the universe?

Or...

What if the struggle between various alien intelligences to gain a foot hold in Rifts Earth and other dimensions has left those dimensions scarred from their portals constantly opening/closing effectively weakening the fabric of space/time that is currently beyond even the god's powers to repair.

Or...

The creation of rune weapons and building of pyramids on countless planets by the splugorth has upset the spiritual balance of the universe tearing open a direct link to the old ones chamber in the middle of atlantis?

Is that kinda what you were thinking of?

Uhmmm. Hasn't PB already done this with the Minion Wars? Seems like the ultimate Megaversal Crossover already.
This world is far too small not to want to see it all, but life is far too short to allow that to happen. - Falcon, Ranger (My primary hero in PFRPG setting)

Starts in the Hades book and continues through Dyval and many others, most of which will take place in different setting throughout the megaverse, including Rifts and Heroes, but also including a few others. Looks like a good series. I've got Hades, and it's off to a good start.

Coalition Dan wrote:Personally to allow all to be intertwined in the same story I would have the "outsiders" (the players) all gather on one setting like Earth (through rifts)
Something from each of those previous homeworlds of the outsiders was brought to this central location for some much bigger plot by some much bigger antagonists. I would have a antagonists brought in to the central location along with the players from the same homeworlds, that are being used (willingly or otherwise) by some much bigger opponents to obtain some unheard of epic scheme. Just a rough outline really

Sounds like Marvel Comics Infininty War! Which was a good storyline, by the way!

I'd definitively use the Crisis on Infinity Earths from DC Comics. I think it could fit on your idea. :-D

Erick Wujcik wrote something similar in his Amber Diceless roleplaying game. Dimensional energy is being sucked from one dimension to another. This was causing size and power issues between the different forces.

For Rifts, Hades, Dyval, and Large Scale realms are ripped of energy, reducing occupants and those intimately tied to their dimension halved in size and power.

Other Dimensions (Palladium Fantasy, for example) recieve some of this extra energy, inflating to 150% their normal size & power.

Such a disturbance would lead dimensional tracking parties across the megaverse looking for patterns in the amount of distortion between different dimensions.

The Cause: An AI with Spatial Mage powers creating his new dimension, is entwining with all dimensions so he can become lord and master of it all. Since he is in his realm, his powers are magnified so that even a coalition of FoM, Atlantis, UWW, HU Heroes, etc. will be hard pressed to get past his defenses.

--Just a suggestion--

Well several biengs that would come to mind as KEY figures in this setting .

-- Algor "The Giant"-- Dragons n Gods,pg102--
He can Create Entire Dimensions as per his innate ability . Whos to say Since he can create them can he conversly Destroy them ?

--- Apsu --- Pantheons of the Megavers,pg47--
You want power ? The mear dreams of this beasty would make the stinky stuff between your toes. Gods . An not those filler fluff gods but Heads of Pantheon level of power gods ... Far and away the most powerfull being I've seen (stated out ) Apsu could literally dream a bieng into existance that would be perfect for your Ultimate Evil ..

--- Zurvan-- Pantheons ,pg 177.---
Fourth Dimensional God of Time an Prisoner of Beings that could destroy the very fabric of all realities in the megavers.( or rumored to be ..)

---Styphon--Gods n Dragons ,pg226--
This is the very thing that God dragon is KNOWN for ... very interesting if you ask me ..

--The Dark --- Nightbane (any book)--
This being is so powerful he/she/it is litterally on the same level of power as the old ones an rumor's and legends suggest that this very being IS one of the Old Ones who's mearly DREAMING , Not consciencely even perciving what it is doing as it lay's in its mystical slumber . If so check out the Awsome power of the Nightlords who are effectivly in a witch style pact with the mystically sleeping conscience of ( The Dark ) If they are what happens when you pray to it when its sleeping ... What exactly would happen if it WANTED to SHOW you what power was !!!!

these are just a few ways to look at what real power is in ANY setting an such just my two cp's have fun :-D
