How Old Will You Be On December 22, 2098? And Where?

Unread post by bigbobsr6000 »

Mark Hall inspired to ask these questions. Thanks :-D .

1. How old will you be when The Great Cataclysm comes?
2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming).
3. What do you think your survival chances are to survive the first 24 hours?
4. Assume you survive: What one ability or physical change would you like The Great Cataclusm to give you if you had a choice? (EX: Cast magic, gills, fly, supernatural stength, please let me stay human, etc., etc., etc.)

I'll go first.

1. 145 years young.
2. I would like to be in North Eastern Kentucky where I grew up.
3. Zero
4. Ley Line Walker.

Enjoy :D

You never know current human's life span is 122.4 years. Who knows how long the human life span could be changed to by next week, month, year, 10 years from now?????

Knowing our luck, it will go down instead of up. :ugh:

Where'd you get this from?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_life_span

http://www.monitor.net/monitor/5-27-96/agingmax.html

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/946452.stm

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/309/5731/83

To name a few sites. The last has an interesting comment: "(Today, 1 in 10,000 people in industrialized countries hold centenarian status.)"

To be fair the scientific community is split on this issue. In researching this the arguement extends from mid 80's to 120+ years. But the site below has a life expectancy table. The last age entry of 66-67 predicts one has another 17.7 years of life expectancy. That would be living to 83.7 to 84.7 on the average. Just expand table to view.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... able_1.png

Bieng the optimist, I'm going with the scientist who side on the longer life span. One can always hope, can't one? :-D

Misfit KotLD wrote:So you should have added the caveat of can be on that life span comment. That's all I was questioning. :ok:

Your right, Misfit KotLD, a warning enjoining one from certain acts or practices would have been an explanation to prevent misinterpretation on my part to inform one of a modifying or cautionary detail to be considered when evaluating, interpreting, or doing something.

I hope I have elucidated my original post in answer to your inquiry into the issue.

1. How old will you be when The Great Cataclysm comes? 118

2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming). probably ashes scattered across half of Nebraska by then (so much dust blowing around here

3. What do you think your survival chances are to survive the first 24 hours? I won't even survive to see it start.

4. Assume you survive: What one ability or physical change would you like The Great Cataclusm to give you if you had a choice? (EX: Cast magic, gills, fly, supernatural stength, please let me stay human, etc., etc., etc.)
As powerful as possible for best survivability, while still appearing human. Mega-hero or Neo-Human or Cosmo-Knight, etc. In the real world I'd definitely want to be a munchkin so I have save as many people as possible.

It's just the first 24 hours - after that, who knows... Maybe he has a penthouse apartment with enough food to last for 24 hours?

I can see myself lasting 24 hours if I could hunker down. Once the food in my reserves for an Earthquake are gone, I question my survivability.

2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming). Western part of North Carolina around Asheville visiting family for Christmas

1. I will be 119 years old, and hopefully, I will finally be out of college. :p

2. Knowing me, I'll be on the toilet. Or in the shower. Probably still in Florida, unless I manage to amass a fortune as an electrical engineer (HA!), in which case I will probably have moved further north and west (at least as far as inland Alabama).

3. Given my projected location, not good, unless I make it out before the deluge, or managed to move away from Florida long beforehand. Of course, Alabama isn't all that far away from the New Madrid Seismic Zone, but I imagine even the most horrendous earthquake is more survivable than tsunamis and surging sea levels. Beyond that, I should be armed and provisioned well enough to make it to a fortified location where I can huddle amongst my fellow survivors and watch the world end.

4. Given my penchant for mythology and the color blue, I hope to become a D-Shifter. My powers would prove quite handy in disaster-relief efforts (phase-shifting through debris, hauling wreckage with supernatural strength, etc.), and if I should ultimately give up on this wretched world, I could easily find a rift to greener pastures.
There you go man, keep as cool as you can.

them to believe that you perceive the web they weave
and keep on thinking free.

-I'd be 118 and hopefully dead by that point, that is if my will has any say in the matter
-Even if I'm alive, I'm screwed because I'll be in CA and hopefully a better swimmer than I am today
-Being so old, I plan on becoming demon chow within the first 24 hours
-If for some reason I survive, I'd be a general nuisance to any adventure group I was a part of (diaper changes and all that). Now, if i were younger I'd definitely be a DW Hunter.

Chello!

1. 128
2. I don't ever plan on leaving East Texas...which is good seeing as there are no Rifts around here. :)
3. Pretty good, and seeing as how my either my great, or great-great grandson is the chap that saves NEMA (ref. Revised Rifts SB1, Gen. Anthony Emmel), I just make make it to cryo. :)
4. Not sure...probably just anagathics to make me younger and more resiliant..or maybe just some bionics (lungs, etc.).

Geriatric Juicer's life span: 4d6 hours. Juicer burn-out starts 1 hour before they die. The bonuses and side-effects are:

Showing pictures of grandkids - 4d6 pictures per minute
Calls everyone by someone else's name who's be dead for years (i.e. That Joseph Proseck is a mighty good warrior but why skull designs?)
For some unknown reason, the juicer's primary vehicle doubles in size and becomes a model that went out of style 30 years before

1. How old will you be when The Great Cataclysm comes?
I'll be 113 years old (and with the advances in technology, hopefully I'll be alive)
2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming).
I will be in rural western ND.
3. What do you think your survival chances are to survive the first 24 hours?
Well at 113, not too good, but I am a Marine, and as you all know, Superman aint got S*** on us.
4. Assume you survive: What one ability or physical change would you like The Great Cataclusm to give you if you had a choice? (EX: Cast magic, gills, fly, supernatural stength, please let me stay human, etc., etc., etc.)

1. I will be 123 years old. By modern medicine the odds are against me surviving this long. By canon Rifts/Chaos Earth medicine, I would still be alive and relatively able. I would expect that I would have bio-system eyes, lungs, kidneys, heart, skin, throat and mouth. Possibly other organs as well. Most of my joints are likely to be artificial as well.

2. I would expect to be semi-retired. So I would be in the army reserves, with 35+ years of regular force expereince. Maybe more if they push back the retirement age to accomodate new life expectancies and increased abilities at advanced age.

I would be living in Northern Ontario in a modern cottage. Probably about 20 miles outside a city such as Thunder Bay, North Bay, Sudbury or Ottawa. Because I was part of the military response to the Ice Storms in Northern Quebec and Ontario, my cottage would be equipped with a diesel generator, a fire place, a wood stove (probably in the garage for heat), a BBQ, extra propane and diesel, a AM/FM radio, possibly a HAM radio or military surplus radio, and tons of canned and preserved foods. I particularily tend to hoard food in the winter. Because I like to hunt, there would be, as a minimum, a shotgun, a 30.06, a .22, a compound bow and loads of ammunition. First aid supplies would also be present.

The 'cottage' would be set up for year round living because it's my retirement home. I would want a well, solar panels and whatever else I could get to be as self-sufficient as possible for as long as possible. Although these would all be redundat systems as I would also want to be plugged into the infrastructure of whatever community I was near. I just like having back ups in place. That's what the ice storms taught me. This pretty much reflects my current retirement plans.

Because it's the Christmas season, my whole family will be with me. What better place to celebrate a winter holiday than a northern cottage? The younger generations will be critical for long term survival as I pass on my hunting skills, military skills and technical skills as fast as I can.

3. I would expect to survive the first 24 hours with little difficulty. That part of the world, as it turns out, doesn't really see many of the natural disasters that the rest does. The trick will be weathering the long winter, which could last between 2 years if I manage to be far enough south, to 80 years if I turn out to be too far north. Although northern Ontario isn't as far north as much of the rest of the country so I would expect to be fairly well off. Still, even under the best circumstances, I'd expect long winters for the rest of my life. :x

4. I would want telemechanics or the psionic abilities of either a psionic operator or a psi-tech so that I could salvage technology for the survival of my family and our allies. I see technology as the best chance to let my family survive against the demon hordes that will eventually come. :?

One important decision I would have to make if I was in the army reserves would to either abandon my position to be with my family or stay in my post. If my post was to serve locally, then it could be that staying on might actually be in the best interests of my family. But there would be no doubt, all my decisions would be based on ensuring the survival of my family.

I would actually expect to serve locally. Reserve units are deployed where they are needed in times of crisis. If they're needed everywhere, then they may as well stay in the communities where their families are. And if in that time I actually made it to CO of the unit? Then yeah, we'd be staying put. Ottawa can make all the orders they want, they'd have no real way to enforce them at this point.
I was raised to beleive if you can't say something nice about a person, say nothing at all. This has led to living a very quiet life.

1. 119, sweet still young compared to some on here  J/K
2. Probably still in Newcastle, Ontario.
3. Terrible if Darlington power plant blew up, it's not that far from here
4. Since I would be obliterated by the blast from the nearby nuke plant I figure I got only two options, the extreme dose of radiation gives me super powers, or the forge steps up big time and turns me into a Cosmo Knight. If I had a choice, maybe a Psi-Slinger.

1. How old will you be when The Great Cataclysm comes? I would be 124 years and I think I would be still able following the rifts fluff

2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming). North west or on a sail boat traveling the world.

3. What do you think your survival chances are to survive the first 24 hours? Well I feel I have a great chance provided I was not killed instantly. I have many survival skills and I generally keep enough supplies to hold out for two weeks for myself and my family. (this is a good thing even in our world.)

4. Assume you survive: What one ability or physical change would you like The Great Cataclusm to give you if you had a choice? Well I would love Immortality, but if that is not an option then Night Vision as I think it would help my chances of survival.

On history channel they have a show called Thats Impossile, and the show episode title Eternal life is talking about how by the year 2060 that it might be possible for people to live to a thousand years old. Even the young adults of today.
SO if this show is correct it would be interesting to see how we would look in 2098. just thought i would share with everyone.

1. I would be 115 years old. Hoping that if I do survive that the powers give me my youth and allow me to live forever in my 20's.

2. I would say in Vegas or somewhere where it is entertaining.

3. If I'm still alive by then I would say my chances are amazingly good.

4. I would probably go with a mystic or mind melter.

1. How old will you be when The Great Cataclysm comes?
Born March 12, 1974. I'll be 124

2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming).
FLORIDA most likely. Unless I end up moving to another country for some reason.

3. What do you think your survival chances are to survive the first 24 hours?
All Depends. I might be a Full Conversion Cyborg by then. I might be some-sorta Super-Soldier. Who Knows. I might even be RIFTED to some place else.

4. Assume you survive: What one ability or physical change would you like The Great Cataclusm to give you if you had a choice? (EX: Cast magic, gills, fly, supernatural stength, please let me stay human, etc., etc., etc.)
No idea. All depends on what is going on where I happen to be or where I end up.

1. How old will you be when The Great Cataclysm comes?
- 133 Years Young
2. Where do you think you will be? (This should be based on that you have no idea it's comming).
- In Space with my Family. Perhaps even on my way to another star system (if possible).
3. What do you think your survival chances are to survive the first 24 hours?
- Pretty good, considering we would be in space. Say 95% - My Family and I wouldn't be among those who kill themselves because of the coming of the Rifts.
4. Assume you survive: What one ability or physical change would you like The Great Cataclusm to give you if you had a choice? (EX: Cast magic, gills, fly, supernatural stength, please let me stay human, etc., etc., etc.).
- Nothing more than remaining Human, except perhaps for some Cybernetic Implants and Medical Procedures to replace "failing" body parts. I'd probably help build up space defenses from the "Rift Invasions" in order to keep the "Infection" on Earth from escaping.
