Misc. points award system. Input please? Thanks.
This is a system I have used off and on over the years. Each time a player shows up for the game session, I award them "5 Miscellaneous Points" to be spent as below. They may accumulate them. I keep track as well.
Also, I have awarded "MP's" along with XP.
MISCELLANEOUS POINTS CHART
# Misc Pts = Benefit
5 = +1% to Any Existing Skill
5 = +1 to Existing ISP
5 = +1 to Existing PPE
5 = +1 to Existing HP
5 = +1 to Existing SDC
5 = +1 to Existing MDC
20 = New OCC/RCC/PCC Skill at 25% + IQ
25 = New Secondary Skill at 10% + IQ
25 = +1 or +1% to Any Individual Saving Throw
30 = +1 to Spell Strength
40 = Cure One Phobia
40 = Cure One Insanity
50 = +1 to Any Attribute
50 = +1 to Any HTH Combat Specs. (Dodge, Parry, etc.)
Just wondered if this seems okay to y'all and if any of y'all did or do something similiar. Please give feedback. Would appreciate if any would post anything they do along these lines.
Thanks, Big Bob........................
Also, I have awarded "MP's" along with XP.

do you have any limits to prevent abuse? or do you have an anything goes what ever you come with i got something harder style
The only limits are: Any excess MPs cannot be carried over to a new character or campaign. They must spend the points within the limits of the table. That's pretty much it.

Started out as for just showing up.
No more than ten max per session including the 5 for showing up.

That seems alright to me, then.
And it reminds me of RECON's experience points system, which I like.

Why is it easier to get an OCC related skill at a higher percentage than a secondary skill? You almost always get a better selection from OCC skills, and they always cover stuff secondaries cannot usually get.
Also, attributes are too expensive - sorta.
While I could buy gymnastics at 20 points, giving me a bunch of bonuses to stats, while if I wanted to get just +1 to PP (which gymnastics offers) it costs 50? I understand why (as far as mental stats are concerned), but you should lower the price or offer that different stats are easier to get (like strength).
Another thing; why would a person buy SDC/MDC when they can purchase HP at the same cost? it is more advantageous to have HP than the other two. Maybe offer +2 to SDC/MDC at the current price.
Saving throws - +1 and +1% are not equal in the slightest. If the highest save I had to make was a 20, that +1 is worth 5%. I'd offer the % at 3-5 per tick.
Seems like a cool idea though.

Where I could get Boxing and Body Building in as little as 4 sessions giving me an extra attack and some nifty bonuses, I see it working the same way as any skill selection and character development working: when have I had the opportunity to learn and develop these skills? Furthermore, since the starting % is nerfed, the bonuses would naturally (or so I assumed anyway) be nerfed as well.

If you are a MDC creature you do not have any HPs. Some players have chosen SDC over HP in this system. As to anything else, none of this is written in stone. I appreciate all the input thus far. I would like for some to even re-do the chart more to their liking and get different ideas and point values. Maybe even add some new ones.
Feel free to do so. Thanks, Big Bob...............

Given your chart these are very valuable things.
1 MP buys 50 XP.
Hm, the similar thing I've tinkered with is applying such points to each skill as it is used. I put a tick next to the skill; 20 ticks = +1% to base success ratio. This does not replace the leveling bonus which reflects character growth. The ticks are intended to reflect the importance of repetition. It also allows a higher level character to still develop something rather than wait on that 20,000 XP he needs to get to the next level of experience. It's more bookkeeping but it's not really a burden either.
