If any of you read the latest murmur, then you might be as saddened as I. D&D was never my favorite system, I think we can all agree which one that is, but I cannot deny the impact the game had on the industry I've come to love. I have played D&D, and I love the series of books based on the different worlds of the system, but I didn't realize until reading Kevin's words what a profound effect Mr. Gygax had had on us all.

Rest in Peace, Gary. Carry your sword to heaven with pride!

I actually like the 1st and 2nd AD&Ds a LOT better than anything the WoTC has come up with since... in fact the only systems I've liked better were Rifts/ Palladium Fantasy titles and Talislanta.
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.

same here love the second edition (Monks and Thieves were my favorite classes..). Basic D&D (the Boxed sets) are also fun.

I did a whole speach on him after his death. I didn't realize his effect on me personally until I started thinking about it. He was the first. Many of us found solace, escape, and coping mechanisms. Not to mention the psychology that goes into the questions raised by alignments, religions, faiths, athropology, sociology and all of the other things that come up during gaming and character generation.

Side Note I went to the funeral and a con broke out and was going to sacrifice my original set of dice from the red box D&D basic set to Gygax hoping to put it into his coffin, but the casket was closed and I setttled for rubbing my dice on the coffin as tribute and thanks. There were a lot of people and most of them gamers. Spoke with people from Paizo, a gamer from connecticuit, it was nice.
The entire experiment may ultimately not work. But as Tiger Woods tears into the springbok, his mouth crimson with blood, he looks to have all the makings of a natural-born killer.

May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

RIP
I remember days like this when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries. More than 20 years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. The grass smelled sweet with the spring wind...For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.
