however, you might be able to work in a nano-bot "grey goo" blob, or a silicon based biological lifeform.
i think nano-bots were covered by the G.E.I.S.T. in the "MISC" thread.
a silicon based life form might be interesting. breaths air, exhales sand. eats rock. excretes non-silicate minerals in concentrated and refined form. has electrical based neural pathways (able to interface with computers?). maybe the creature was designed to terra-form mars or something, and with all the radiation and odd isotopes fro mthe nukings, "awoke" during the crash, and has been reproducing itself ever since (maybe a "budding" process where a small version starts growing on it, then drops off and moves away on it's own once it's a certain size...)

Well, what I'd do (but remember that it's just me), I'd fix it so that what ever mutated the stuff metal/element wouldn't ACTUALLY mutate the element but some biological chemical that was attached to the element (I.E.: Amino Acids) that would be mutated instead of the actual element.

except that for something to mutate, it has to be a biological organism. and adding a few amino acids or proteins ontop of a lump of metal doesn't make it an organism. otherwise we're all in trouble for enslaving plates and forks.
as i pointed out, you can have alternate biology if you want to have something involving "mutant elements". i used silicon as an example, because silicon based life is a hypothetical possibility given the properties of silicon.
silicon based life would probably incorporate a large quantity of other minerals into it's biochemistry, much like carbon based life does. either as nutrients, or as physical building materials (much like how some carbon based life uses silica as armor.

You could bring something of that nature into the game as an sentient alien creature/entity.
So instead of a silicon or carbon based life form, you have an amorphous platinum based life form. I wouldn't recommend it as a playable character for AtB, but as an alien NPC it could be rather interesting. Also, that way you wouldn't have to worry about to many details.
A few details you will want to consider: - can it communicate and how - what does it live on (eat) - why is it here - what does it want - what is it's purpose in your game/story - what is it resistant to - what is it vulnerable to
In sci-fi anything is possible. It's just the implausible that can through a spanner in the works.

Actually, in 1 of the episodes for the old series, a giant ice creature is created when mutagen is poured onto a snowfield and mutates the bacteria into the a semi-hive mind and they create the body out of the ice. Then there's the mutant rock creatures/general/soldiers that Krang had created.
