IYO Would an Asgardian Dwarf have an AR above 5?

Unread post by Thinyser »

Would you think an Asgardian Dwarf should have an AR above 5 in SDC settings, specifically PF?

I would think so being that they are MD beings... though it does not say this in their Pantheons write up.

Personally I'm thinking of around AR 10 as I don't want him to be too powerfull but want his herritage to have an advantage independent of the rune weapons to start (he will be loosing his greater rune weapon as a plot point and I just think it makes little sense to have a MD dwarf not have an AR in a SDC setting).

IIRC, they have considerably more HP and SDC than a standard dwarf when in SDC settings.

While it certainly could be counted as "considerably more" its only 45 more SDC and 1d6 extra HP per level (with a 2d6 bonus to start), which IMO does not equate to a 2d4x10+1d6/level MDC creature.

Thats 20-80 MDC plus an average of about 3 MDC per level up, so at 5th level you are looking at 35-95 MDC. Thats 3500 to 9500 SDC but on an SDC world they only get 60 SDC + about 50 HP at 5th level (my player rolled 49 for 5th level)... and no AR? That just doesn't seem right to me.

At least with anAR it makes them significantly tougher than a standard dwarf.

Their MDC is die to magical enrichment, so yeah, it looks right to me.

man my dwarves get 2d4x100
Odin dwarves got a bad hand imo

I would highly reccomend giving Odin's chosen smiths a low ar
I remember days like this when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries. More than 20 years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. Hmm... So you think that simply because thier MDC is not technological that they would not have AR on PF? or is there some other reason why you come to that conclusion?

Looking at asgardian elves they get 4d6 MDC/HP per hour regeneration so I think a AR of 10 for a sturdy asgardian dwarf is in line with that.

hmm... I have to say that 2d4x100 is a bit out of line for a normal dwarf, did you mean 2d4x10 perhaps?

I definitly think that the Asgardian Dwarf will have a 10 AR or the same regen as the elves get but the AR seems more in line with a dwarf's inherrent sturdyness.

no a Asgardian dwarf is the equivalent of a godling imo
they should be much more powerful than they are dipicted in Palladium

if you read the elder edda you'd see that they take a prominent role in the astratu faith

Asgardian Dwarves have no regeneration nor do I see any comparison between AR and regeneration.

I fail to see how their prominence relates to armor rating, regeneration, or overall MDC/SDC.

I'd say they shouldn't get an AR, but a lot of SDC/HP

well Palladium's Asgardian dwares should be as strong as they are depicted in the Sagas compraed to other converted gods

would it make sense to give Zeus 15 mdc?

Seeing all the ways in which Palladium doesn't follow the sagas, or any other mythology, no, it doesn't matter what the saga says.

well yay I mean I have an issue with the entire Pantheons converion book but just becasue Palladium dropped the ball on many of the charecters does not give them a pass on a indivdual group

No it means the content is not and never was meant to precisely represent the origin myths you are citing. Artistic/creative license was employed to make them all distinctively Palladium.

What does their practice or lack thereof have to do with artistic license?

No, he isn't shown at all. I suppose this means he isn't a real deity in Rifts. It works for me.

The whole point of artistic license is that you can take anything in the public domain and twist it, bend it, and retell and reshape the original concept into anything you want.

Folklore, with emphasis on Greek and Norse myth/culture, was my minor in college. I have read all the sagas and eddas and what worked in the stories does not need to fit into games unless you the GM want to bring forth those aspects.

With the Asgardian Dwarf, what do you want to achieve? Do you want him to be immune to forged weapons? Do you want his skin to be equal to iron? Do you want him to be amazingly resilient to damage? Find out what you want to convey with the character and mold the mechanics around that.

I would rule that Asgardian Dwarf = Godling since they are creatures who can rough and tumble in Asgard. The question is why is he on the Palladium world? Was he cast out of Asgard? Is he being tested by Odin or one of the other gods? If so, consider simply converting his MDC to SDC on a 1:1 ratio so the character learns that his divine protection has been stripped from him and if he wants it back, he needs to find his rune weapon, do the bidding of the gods and find his way back to Asgard intact.
