Depends. If I'm in one room with the players then no music or television; if there is such it's not mine and I won't notice it unless it's distracting. If I'm playing online though I'll play a CD or turn on a movie.

*takes out a pen and writes in "POP", "R&B", "alt-rock Christen" and "Other" into the poll*
Mostly I listen to Japanese anime sound tracks when @ my comp. and listen to the local Christen music station when not listening to the NPR station while in my car.

What kind of music do you listen too
Opera 0% [ 0 ]
Rock 44% [ 4 ]
Country 0% [ 0 ]
Jazz 11% [ 1 ] x
Techno 0% [ 0 ]
Dance (Hip Hop and that sort) 0% [ 0 ]
Metal (Death, Power, Gothic ect) 44% [ 4 ]
Total votes : 9
Notice the poll question only asks "what kind of music do you listen to?"
Not "What do you listen to while gaming?"
So that is the question I was answering. A disciplinary 's all the deviants for thinking Christianity is about whacking off non-christens. Christianity does not advocate the use of violence, its about being in control of yourself so you can love (agape) more. However, it does not preclude using violence to defend yourself and others.
It's the koran that espouses using the 'sword' as a means of conversion.
While I can understand how you could think that, because of all the non-christens that call themselves christens. Like the 'preacher' charter in 'The Mask of Zorro' movie. The one with the hUmmma hummaa Zeta-Jones.
What do I listen to while gaming.... mostly anime soundtracks. The RT and macross ST's are good for when your playing RT or PW. Tenchi muyo for those soap opera games.

Re: In Session Music?
I break out the death metal and power metal for when I write gaming stuff, but when gaming I occassionally like movie soundtrack music and I have used movie sound F/X and Halloween F/X clips in games. It's difficult to GM and DJ at the same time. Music with lyrics is too distracting during gameplay.
Re: In Session Music?
For the atmosphere of a high powered game like Rifts, I usually prefer the music of this Techno Band.
They're called Juno Reactor. You may have heard their music in the Matrix or in the first Mortal Kombat movie.
I usually use brief pieces to set the scene and then just shut it off. The music is too distracting sometimes. But, in general, I like to keep certain pieces in mind for certain characters, groups, and locations.
Splynn is pretty much defined by the piece "City of the Sinful" on Gods and Monsters, and if the PC's ever head down to the Vampire Kingdoms, I've got "Children of the Night" all cued up. "Mona Lisa Overdrive" is probably some of the best chase music ever, so why not use it? If you like the New West, there's always "Pistolero." "Masters of the Universe" is also a particularly good piece of music. I'll have to make sure that I play "Wardogs" the next time they encounter psistalkers and dogpacks.
I use them a lot when running Champions, too, when I remember.

Re: In Session Music?
I use all kinds of music in my games. I try to score the sessions as best I can with the appropriate pieces. I tend to avoid things without lyrics unless the lyrics are needed for the opening of a scene (say, a singer in a bar). I started doing this for my games when after playing under a GM that did it for his. Really helped set a mood and gave us something to listen too when one of the other players was busy running the math for his character's potential actions.
