Shifter link to the Gods of Magic

Unread post by londonbaz »

Hi all,

Just wanting to get opinions of using the Lords of Magic in Dweamor as the "gods of magic" that a shifter could link to, especially if he had started his career as a Lord Magus. What do you guys think about this?

Thanks for the reply Gadrin. The fluff for all of the magi mentions sojourners and magi who have left the service of Dweamor, so the path is open for a later career as a shifter - but I agree, from a roleplaying point of view, he will always have ties to the city and the Lord Magi - possibly why he connected with the LOM as his supernatural link.

Rogue_Scientist wrote:I'm going with "no" on this one. The Lords of Magi, and Dweomer, are written up as a fairly isolationist society. They keep their secrets, and their power, largely to themselves and their people. Players really like to "forget" this fact.

Furthermore, the Three don't consider themselves gods. They don't act like it, either. They don't seek worshipers to increase their power. I'm guessing here, but I don't think they have witches, either, or bond to Shifters. I'm fairly certain the bonds they form with the High Magi, and use to animate the automatons of Dweomer are the only bonds they confer to people. They act more like leaders than deities.

Oh, I agree about the isolationism. This was a specific question for a concept that I had about a Lord Magus who has served the city for 70 years before retiring from active service and then adopting the Shifter's art to better explore the megaverse. He has no animosity towards the Three or Dweomer, in fact he would move heaven and earth to do everything he could to help them. Sure, he is more than Sojourning and has actually left the service, but that doesnt mean that he is out there spilling the secrets of the Magi. Most people he meets will not even know that he is/was a Magi! But I wanted to keep a link to the Three and was wondering if it would make sense... which I am no longer sure it would after what you said.

Any other input would be great.

forget the fluff, the rules keep the Lord Magus from learning spells of higher level. I'm pretty sure that once you "become one with magic" you're changed irrevocably by those Magic 3 who gave you power in the first place -- meaning you probably can't have your magic-cake and eat it too

Oh, not again :!:

I keep thinking of Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein:

"Damn Your Eyes!"

"Too late!"
