Favorite area outside of North America to run

Unread post by MikelAmroni »

So when the focus slips out of North America, where do you run or play? When I saw Nekira's idea for running in Japan, I jumped for joy. Whenever I see someone running for Rifts, its always in the sourcebook rich North American setting. What about Africa? South and Central America? Russia? Japan? The Pacific (a little underseas action maybe)? Orbit? Phase World has its own thing going, and I love el magico -- darklorddc's Rifts space setting.

I've personally ran games in Europe and South America, and had lots of fun with it. So what about you?

I've done russia once, It was fun for a bit but even they ended up in NA after a while (( Rift, not world spanning travel adventure. Ultimate short cuts, rifts))

Wormwood is fun. But again, usually you visit there, you dont' wanna live there.

One of my groups did get in on the 4 horsemen thing but again... rifting and visiting not living there.

Most of my games are set around NA... most detailed setting, most well known enemies and what not. easiest games to run.

I ran a campaign in Korea that used the scant info from Rifts Japan on it along with the info from Rifter #5 on the Rahu-men and bits from mystic China converted to Rifts. This was long before the china books.

Very fun oriental campaign with tattoo warriors, demons, martial arts, and Horune pirates.
What books I would like to see:
RIFTS-Japan 2, England 2, Africa 2, China 3, Lazlo (PLEASE!!)
Phase World- The Galactic Tracers Sourcebook
A RIFTS video game RPG/Shooter like Fallout 3

Favorite setting to play outside of NA? Definitely Japan.

Favorite setting to run outside of NA? Probably Russia, largely due to the Archaic Demons and awesome classes. It's just a truly rugged environment and everything that interacts with it reflects the setting. What's not to love?

Amen to that! personally I'd like to see some adventures seeds and such, along with a bit of setting development and interaction with China and Russia, perhaps some expansion of their navy, and a bit more of the region than just the Japanese Isles, much like Mindwerks expanded Poland, while still being a sourcebook for the NGR book.

I love to run South Pacific games and even games in japan, as those are the two regions I am most familiar with in the real world (other than NA of course).

I've only ever played in NA. If there was a place I would like to play, it would probably be canada and maybe the NGR. Honestly the only thing that makes North America an adventuring hazard is the Coalition Nazi's that seem to be everywhere. They are the only group of people that ever confiscates stuff from players for no damn reason other then it isn't from Northern Gun or MI. The only way to get away from them is to kill them and then cover up the evidence so that the CS never finds out you capped some of their soldiers.

I've always wanted to run a campaign in the wilds of Italy, France and Spain, but I'm unhappy with the amount of love they got sourcebook wise, and I'm one of those "Don't want to screw it up and have it all be wrong' people.

I've had a lot of fun playing with England and the Mediterranean/NGR. I know most people don't like the New Camelot stuff, but I had a lot of fun with it and my group.

The serial killer's guide to handling horrible puns:
Step one: Groan and experience pain from awful pun
Step two: Hire someone to dig a hole deep enough for two bodies.
Step three: Kill the person you hired - saves money
Step four: Kill punster. Preferably in a way that does not invite puns.
Step Five: Plan next death and cover up.

Sometimes Atlantis.

South America is a great setting, with it's militarized nations and the hatred between them is only going to lead to massive war. Great place to start a campaign because it has a some governments already worked out for you, but leaves the setting really open to whatever you want to throw in. In North America the CS has a loose handle on the country, but in South America it's more of a gamer Hungry Hungry Hippo with roughly equal nations, where each has to be careful not to weaken it's self too much in it's conflicts or be picked off by the nation that sit back and waits for an opening. A multi way cold war with lots of little conflicts going on. If you fallout with one nation go to work for other side and get some payback. Some really cool robot vehicles, equipment and races way down south.

Outside North America? It's a toss-up between Australia and Russia.

Inside North America my favorite area is Canada.
