Catalina Island

It is right off Los Angeles with plenty of water as protection, but close enough so you could raid up and down the coast for supplies and rescue others. Also, the Santa Barbara island chain is nearby. Great fishing! Once you rescue some sushi chefs and porn stars life is good.
The most important plan to survive is to sacrifice stupid people to the zombies. Anyone in your caravan who is not 100% focussed on team survival gets left behind along with the old, the sick and the handicapped. Zombie movies become survival training videos in what NOT to do.
Since we know that Dead Reign zombies capture humans, they will probably focus on the easy meat first. Making yourself dangerous and thus less appealing will be key because screaming, crying, hysterical meat in a useless panic will be aplenty.
BTW, how does Dead Reign deal with the issue of body rot? If zombies rot, then there is a finite amount of time they can exist before falling apart.

Yes it's a matter of speed.

Keldane wrote:I feel the need to point out that if zombies are dead, then they don't need to breathe, and therefore, being on an island isn't going to be much of a defense unless the island is reasonably small and has large, open beaches. Similarly, backing oneself against the bottom of a cliff means zombies who survive jumping off the top are right on top of you. Not much of a concern if they're mindless, roaming zombies, but if someone is directing them, it could happen.
Not needing to breathe is not the same as suitable for underwater travel. Zombies are generally depicted as lacking the coordination to swim, and decaying corpses tend to float. Zombies in deep water are going to be fairly useless - they'd be at the mercy of every wave & current. Assuming mindless zombie hordes, they've also got no way of detecting their prey across large stretches of open water, and so would have no reason for a sustained push against an island. The odd zombie might wash up on the beach, but there would hardly be masses of the things storming an island.

Re: zombie plan
I am prepared for a zombie invasion (or a hurricane, or forest fire, or civil uprising, or other situations that consider themselves "SHTF" scenarios)
I have 250 rounds of 7.62x39 on stripper clips in a Chi-Com chest rig. It will feed my Saiga and my Norinco SKS. I'm taking my Saiga (it's a super reliable AK-based rifle) because it's my hunting rifle and I trust it. My wife is taking my single shot .22. It can shoot .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle (she can shoot dime sized groups at 25 yards). We have a .22 for getting food and light easy to transport ammo, and the Saiga for 2 legged predators and larger game. I will carry my Ruger P89 in a Kydex Paddle holster and a spare magazine on my belt. That's 30 rounds in 2 mags plust 1 round in the tube. 9mm, 7.62x39 and .22 LR is commonly availible ammunition that I can use for shooting and trade. Just remember though, you can't eat ammo. Let me repeat that. You can't eat ammo. Ammo is heavy and though very useful it's limited in its purpose.
We do not believe in the "bug-out" concept. Grabbing the packs and heading for the hills is certain death for my family. I have a soon to be 3 year old, soon to be 2 year old, and in February, we're expecting our 3rd child. In the event of any kind of SHTF scenario, we're "bugging in." The house has plenty of canned goods, Military MRE's, dog food (for my dog), medicine, and Water (Enough for 2 weeks of no power/water/outside contact). Working with the military supply system, I have plenty of plywood, 2x1's and 2x4's in my garage (for impromtu construction needs or boarding up the windows for zombies/hurricanes) that I saved from the dumpster. If I'm at work in the event of SHTF, my wife knows to fill up the bathtub and the sinks to serve as a source for additional utility water. A good thing is that I was in scouting since I was in Kindergarten or 1st grade and even though I had more than just scouts on my mind during adolecent years, I became an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow and paid attention to the different outdoors aspects. I am lacking in the fuel department. That's my biggest drawback right now, but I know my way around a horse and I'm a natural teacher. Save nuclear holocaust, my wife has a green thumb and in the end of TEOTWAWNI we intend on subsistence farming to compliment our hunter gathering
I also have a lot of military surplus load bearing devices and plastic containers in the event that if we do have to bug out, we can do so in our Yukon XL (think a suburban). I'm trained in combat lifesaving (thank you USMC) and for what I don't know, I have printed first-aid and survival manuals (both DoD and civilian). I also have completed over 15 FEMA-Approved Emergency/Crisis Management Classes.
As a military member, we have lived in NC, CA, VA, and MS so far. I'm from ND and my wife's from NoVA. The biggest problem is if we're not from where we live so we don't know the area as well and don't have a lot of people that we know and trust with our lives (for a zombie like scenario, you need more than just 2 adults), but if I decide to get out after my second enlistment (2013ish) we'll be in ND and there is a large group of adults and families (we'll become a tribe) with a VAST variety of skills and abilities (RN's, teachers, cops, construction workers, farmers/ranchers, etc).
To sum it up, we're bugging in. If we have to bug out, we've spotted some places to relocate and we're ready to set up again. We're ready to handle most situations that can or may come at us. We'll make contact with other people to set up a tribe. We're armed but also well supplied. Everything we have we know how to use or have a guide book to break it down step by step to do it.

There should be a specific sub-forum of the Rifts forum dedicated to the only hope for salvation of the human race, the Coalition States.

Sweet! I hope the Nun Thinker continues to chase them! What a wicked cool villain!
Atlas6shot wrote:how much damage and how big of an radius of explosion does an average exploding car do?
In Hollywood movies, the explosion usually takes out any adjacent car so say 10 foot radius. 10 years ago on the LA freeway, I saw a car explode and it bucked violently upward (maybe 2 feet) and then became fully engulfed in flame in seconds...but I did not see it do any damage beyond itself.
Atlas6shot wrote:whats the sdc on big tires, like on a bus or semi?
Unless armored, tires should burst when shot...because tire blow outs are cool.
Atlas6shot wrote:how much damage does a golf club do?
Driver or putter? How about 1D6 and 1D6+1 for the driver?
Atlas6shot wrote:what does rolling a 1 to strike a bus with a ford focus do?
Bring joy to the GM's face? I do love me some creative fumbles!
Atlas6shot wrote:do zombies poop?
Heck yeah! Cuz that's weird. Like creepy weird...especially when the PCs start tracking them by their poop.
Atlas6shot wrote:how much auto rubble can a snow plow move?
No reason it could not push a car with intact tires around. Would get grindy if the tires were all flat.
Atlas6shot wrote:does anyone know where i can find a random car table?
Please make one and submit it to the Rifter! But tailor it to "Random Car Found In Dead Reign / System Failure" so finding an intact car with gas would be a wonderful versus all the junkers normally found.
