Which station would Joel/Mike align with? Would the robots see how their mechanical brethren are being treated by Cyberworks and revolt? Would the killer satellites immediately target them and make them goo?

Have you listened to her or read her books? She and the CS are a perfect match.

I'd say that the nano-plague from Splicers would be really bad... at least for half of all life on the planet...

I'd also agree with the meteor thought. That's be crazy bad. Or similarly, something like a supernova or a rift next to a black hole. Also obviously the Old Ones awake would be really bad too...

Or for those of you who watch HEROES, peter petrelli, before he got nerfed. Or I guess you could say that'd be a good thing since he loves saving the world. The bad one would be a Sylar who's killed pre-nerf-Peter, and isn't all apathetic about getting POWER like he is now.

Well, I did say long term...

But yeah, they were dark matter creatures in Stephen Baxter's 'Xeelee' stories that reproduce inside stars. Supernovae tend to disrupt this, so they launched a project to syphon energy out of the cores of stars to prevent this... which unfortunately causes the stars to become red giants; bad news for the entire neighbourhood. Even worse, they decided to do it to every star in the universe.

Oh, and if you seriously tick them off, they'll throw a galaxy at you at relativistic speed.

Dick Cheney, after a few beers, in your backyard with a 'field legal' manportable railgun/grenade launcher combo(loaded for thunderbeetle), a bad case of 'buck fever', and his glasses just fell off...

Oh, and he brought his Kreeghor hunting Hounds with him...

He's just the first of several thousand similarly equipped and snockered clones that defrosted from stasis after the crash of that TGE transport not far from your house...

Zombie Paparazzi---No matter how many times you kill them, they just keep crawling and clawing back to stick their cameras in your business(the latest footage of the octoplets going home reminded me of a zombie movie with all the photographers surrounding and clinging to the car)...

Cher.
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.

They're from Doctor Who back in the early 1960's, and have been a ongoing menace in the series. If you want, you can read up on them here.

The mechanoids, as well the Borg from Star Trek, also owe a lot to Fred Saberhagen's Berserkers.

Or the Haedenmen; Eveloved cybernetic warriors bent on converting or eleminating the human species..and they are ALL individuals, unlike the other umm... cyberneticly enhanced humanoids from that 'other' franchise which will not be named :D

The Deathstar...as run by IG-88...allied with the Mechanoids...and with the faulty thermal exhaust port stuffed with the bodies of the original engineering crew....

Fortunately, lacking a functioning thermal exhaust port, it quickly explodes from excess heat. ;-)
