New TMNT.

Unread post by MrMom »

How would you envision a redo of the TMNT books. I would like to see the Turtles get a make over and look more gritty not very cartoonish. Maybe style one of them off of a Alligator Turtle with a wicked over bite and some spikes sticking out at weird angles.

:-o .......

Might as well change the name while your at it.

Why do people insist on "improving" the classics instead of trying to come up with something ORIGINAL?

:thwak: Thwak the heathen!!

To be fair there were several guest artist comics in the days of Mirage where the turtles were done with different artistic license. However, I don't think anyone would do what you're suggesting if TMNT were to be relicensed for an RPG since it probably p*** off the existing fan base.

Heh, actually, the rumor mill I heard was the owners of TMNT turned down Palladium's strong offer to renew the license (strong offer being 'How would you like the privilege to renew the license'), so Palladium can't use TMNT. Sure, they can use After the Bomb, or mutant animals in general, but not the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

And some things had to change or risk to become a fossil. It si all matter to see what change is good and what not. Also somethings need to stop at some point. You can keep on going forever. At some point there is nothing left to say.

:badbad: My main reason for objecting to MrMom's proposal is that is highly disrespectful of Eastman & Lairds creations. The Turtles have been around for over two decades (probably longer than some of you have been alive :P) and to suggest that their image needs to be redone takes some chutspa. I could see another group of Turtles fitting MrMom's description existing in the TMNT universe, but I don't see any reason to change the Turtles.

How do you think Laird would react to a sales pitch like, "Hey, we want to remake the TMNT RPG. But we want to redesign the Turtles to look more like REAL turtles! Raph could have a wicked overbite and a spiky shell like an Alligator Turtle! Don could have winglike arms and soft back like a Leatherback Sea Turtle! Michael could be one of those f-ugly turtles with the snout nose, and Leo could be a..a... Screw it, let's make Leo a Tyrannosaurus Rex! Cause dinosaurs kick ass!!!"

While we're at it let's see if Palladium can get an X-Man license, but only if they make them all super deformed cute anime characters. :clown:

Oh, and BTW, GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DAMN KIDS!!! :D

Would make for an interesting Transdimensional TMNT game.

Still MrMom's idea of an mutant Alligator Turtle or two has me itching to create a Mercenary duo for AtB.

There were two examples of Alligator turtles in the TMNT universe. Slash, being the first then one of the movies made a retarded one as well.

As for the gritter feel they did this a few years back, went away from the Saturday morning cartoons and did some darker stuff. One even had "Further mutations" Where the turtles continued to evolve. Mike becoming more human (( Human looks partial?)) Don's eyesight going and him becoming all techie/borg like. Ralph became more feral with claws and sharp teeth and what not. And Leo became... like.. Japanish. lol. (( don't understand that one))

I posted this a long time ago, somewhere else.
I still like the idea of it.

Strangeness or Beyond Strangeness
A core rule book for Mutant Animal Roleplaying. It would contain the mutant
animals rule from Turtles, combat rules, and listings of equipment, weapons
and vehicles. With a set of modern Hook, Line and Sinkers for settings.
The name comes from the Turtles' title TMNT and Other Strangeness and
the now dead TMNT and More Strangeness.

Then add to it with Environment books, Beastarys and their like. The books
could be single releases, series and multiple/combined settings (a Rifter type
book). With 3 or more releases a year. These is to add to Palladium's and
printer's work load, but mainly to keep the RPG alive.

The Environment Books (using the term Environment books to keep the books
separate from RIFTS' World books). The first of many settings could be After the
Bomb. A book could set up a region and then could be expanded and detailed in
a later one(s). It's to late now but, a greatly expanded Mutants Down Under book
could have been released in the period as RIFTS Australia. Or a book(s) on Russia
with at when RIFTS's Russia books came out. The book(s) could mirror other
Palladium's RPG releases as well, allowing elements to be shared between the
different systems. Mutant animals could be used in System Failure setting, in
the current time or a post war period. Super powered mutant animals fighting
along side the heroes of Skraypers or in the wilds again the Invaders.
[I have a whole list of things to do. So see future postings I hope.]

The Beastarys would add to the list of animals, birds and other creatures. If the
book was released at the same time as the region's RIFTS book(s). This would
allow normal creatures stats it be added to an area and could tell about the local
animal's habits and habitats (as Wildlife, Zoos or Animal Parks and Farms). [This
would also add to outside Palladium RPG sales.] An example would be a Beastary
for Australia that could be used for the RIFTS Australia books and the Mutants Down
Under (from above). There should also be HL&S using the creatures in the region.
The books could also have mythological, folklore and legendary creatures for use
in horror settings.

The others could a periodic Rifter-like books adding to the published books or
preview future Strangeness (to test the waters, like the Tribes of the Moon did in
the Rifter and now a new Nightbane is planned for release).
I hate it when my mind wonders,
Because I have no idea what it will bring back with it.

I used to own a short comic book series that was a much darker, grittier take on the Turtles. The illustrator used very elegant but heavily-shadowed pencils and the Turtles were more like lumbering beasts of an elemental power than the wise-guys of the cartoon. Can't remember the name of it.

That kind of take on TMNT might have more appeal these days (what with Dark Knight and Watchmen), and wouldn't be too far removed from the originals.
