Just to clarify, I think he may have been referring to the new material. As far as I know SoL is NOT coming back into print any time soon.

What do you want to know? Other than the fact it is mentioned again in the latest press release as slated for this year.

maybe a new and sticky thread for the Nightbane Survival Guide would be better than filling pages in this one, which is supposed to be about SoL.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. If my colleagues and I have anything to say about it, there will be at least semi-regular support for this line for the forseeable future (I'm already working on another book).

All that means is that there isn't a Palladium fan population in your area. Palladium was the biggest seller where I grew up, mostly because half the gamer population were friends of mine and we only played Palladium at that point in time. If there is a Palladium group or two in the area, it'll sell much better. Otherwise the only Palladium sales are likely to people looking for a new game to try or that were just browsing and liked the artwork or something.

Check on that, i don't remember ever hearing that and my perusals of the book didn't bear that out either. Admittedly, I don't read Blade nor have I read Ann Rice in years.

I am a HUGE Nightbane fan, so something like this could make me a little sad =(
I don't know anything in Blade or in any of the Rice books I've read through the years that really would fit with that. The standard NB vamps don't fit in either genre really, the new ones in SoL don't. The new psi-classes may be similar to something in a Blade comic, but I don't know of anything that would be just like them, and I don't know of anything in either book that really fits with the Athanatos.

Oh, come on! It was on the site for free for years. Years! If you didn't want it enough to download it when it was free, you just didn't want it, and it shouldn't matter to you if they are now charging for it or not.
I've had the pdf for so long that the first printout of it I made had yellowed from age.
I want you to remember that if they ever make Internet explorer, mozzila, etc cost money to use on top of the Internet service itself.

well, I downloaded it YEARS ago. but what about new fans of Palladium Fantasy (oh, okay, I guess it's kinda hard to be a new fan of a system that gets neglected the way PF is)?? I think it's unfair to take that free scenario away from them. not to mention people who want to re-download it (after data-loss) and always felt secure about it being on the website. at least it should have been announced ("last chance to get it").
also, what happened to the announcement of "more stuff" being put on the Cutting Room Floor? now there is even less...

Never even knew it was there, and that's really not cool to charge for what was free before. If I knew about it I'd downloaded but I'm not going to pay for it now.
It's worth the money that they're charging for it...even if they gave it away before.

Well, kids. Capitalism my not be cool, but it is the way the world has worked since cavemen traded pretty rocks and shells. Last I checked, every country is at least marginally captialist these days (reformations in Cuba and China pretty much made socialism in capitalism light)
Back in the day, nobody ever paid for files off the internet, but times have changed, and electronic data has a determinable value.
And before any of you quote hacker credos- I've probably been using computers and the internet longer than you, and information has never been free. Instead of it taking hours of your day searching the ancient systems to find a free download, its a 5 second search engine and a credit card number. Sure you got the correct section? A search of "Help Save Palladium Books!" using "Shadows of Light" only gets four hits and none have anything to do with it not being canceled. I tried "SoL" but that finds no matches.

It was in both "is PDF possible" and "why" threads, both in the Save PB section.

Checked both threads again in "is PDF possible" could only find your post about Shadows of Light and in "why" could find no post mentioning the book at all. I'm a little tired so that may be why I'm missing the posts you are talking about. Could you be more specific with the name of the poster or even better a direct link to the post (ever post has a pic on it that gives you the url for that post).

Most of the officially out-of-print and "dead" items (no longer supported with no intention of bringing back) already are available at http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com but the prices are what you'd expect to pay for an actual game PDF, not an out-dated dead book (about $10 per PDF, some of the smaller ones as low as $5)
Sadly, its of poorer quality than most pirated material in the ether, and the pirated material usually includes many OOP items (like all the original RT and Macross books) that Palladium either cant or wont (varies with title and licensing) sell on DT
Indeed, SoL is the only book I cannot find available outside of the DT site, which, as I mentioned, did rather poor PDF copies of PB product.

The "Format" of the PDFs has nothing to do with which readers can vuew the file, when we refer to PDF we refer to things such as OEF (Original Electronic File, or the type of quality sent to a printer for producing the books), OCR (Optical Character Recognition, basically a scan that has the text selectable for searching, copy/pasting etc.) and Raw Scans (what you get directly from a scanner, basically the same as taking a picture of the page and plugging them all into a file), unfortunately the books available on DTRPG are all Raw Scans.

I can't stand reading stuff off pdf's. I'm a big bathroom reader like most men.
Back in the day...I actually had the book in my hand but didn't buy it....wish I did now, cuz i'm an obsessed idiot when it come to collection completeness.
From what I remember I was turned off by the Athanatos/super angel aspect so I passed on the purchase at that time.

Hey guys! Love the game (and got a demo planned for a RPG Con in town this fall) Nightbanes is one of the cooler settings that all my players to date have enjoyed, and actually SoL wasn't that bad since it had a ton of tidbits and ideas in it, one thing that might explain the pulling of the book from the Verse' is the Athanatos and the eerie similaritys to a group of 'Demon's or 'Fallen' angels, especial the way they could manifest a set number of powers (hmmm I think in both books it was three) without taking full form. Pleas don't burn my post or log in since I am a long time GM n player I'm just tossing my night lords style conspiracy out there and wondering what you all think?
BTW any other fans goin to RinCon in Tucson this year?

I have no clue what other title you're referring to so can't weigh in on this. I guess the previous impression I got was that it didn't fit so well with the overall Nightbane theme. But that might just be an obscure reason given to avoid mentioning what you're saying. Although I thought they were more forthcoming over events that forced them to change the game name to Nightbane.

Personally, I liked the Project Pandora parts of SoL, I think the Athanatos parts would have been better served if they had been the result of a latent Nightbane being subjected to Psychotrol as oppossed to being 'angels.' One of the big taboos in the RPG industry are the Abrahamic religions, and SoL took that taboo for a wife with the Athanatos.
darkguyver wrote:Just so Kevin can known book is new sell for over 100 dollars on amazon and ever other online retailer reprinted is need badly.
Just posting to amplify that it still sells for well over $50 so a small print run might do go. Also, even though we got a new book a few years back nothing is in the pipeline so a reprint could pimp the line.
On a separate topic could the copy on DTRPG be added to their POD system?
Jedrious wrote:I think the Athanatos parts would have been better served if they had been the result of a latent Nightbane being subjected to Psychotrol as oppossed to being 'angels.'
This is still an option, the Athanatos "origin story" is merely the legend they tell, not necessarily the truth.
Jedrious wrote:One of the big taboos in the RPG industry are the Abrahamic religions, and SoL took that taboo for a wife with the Athanatos.
The Athanatos aren't linked to Abrahamic trilogy far as I know, they're just Spirits of Light (introduced in PRPG) possessing babies.
