TW and PPE storage?

Unread post by Crazy Lou »

Ok, so the TW creation rules say that for every PPE point a device is able to store there are a bunch of penalties to the construction. Also it says that Diamonds and Emeralds are the gems capable of storing PPE.

What I'm wondering is: Is it within the rules to create a TW device using energy sphere, talisman, and some "power" spells to create a kind of TW PPE container that can hold up to X amount of PPE (let's say 500) without requiring tons of carats of diamonds and emeralds in addition to the other gems needed to build the device, and without incurring the penalties? The idea is that you're using the spells instead of just the gems themselves to enable the PPE storage, which is why I think it might work. But the way it's written, I'm unsure which way to go on this.

What does everyone think?

I was just wondering about the interpretation. I wasn't actually wanting to do it in a game or anything. I just wondered if it was technically allowed.

I would say yes, certain spells can be used to make an alternate TW battery, but with the same limitation that most normal batteries have; they are one use. By one use I mean that the item is incapable of being recharged so once all of the stored P.P.E. is gone the item just becomes an inert ...but fancy, paperweight.

when you say normal batteries, do you mean electrical ones IRL or "normal" ppe ones? Either way, there are very prevalent/common examples of rechargable ones.

the reason i was thinking about avoiding using tons of carats of gems to do that is because at high amounts of PPE, it'd require you to lug around a ton of gems. I realize that's a balance too, which was why I was asking about it from a "technically" standpoint. like technically a 1" diameter super ball could be used w/ talisman and energy sphere spells to hold 1000 PPE or something. But I think I have a reasonable answer now anyway.

I thought it was just that you had to put way more PPE into the talisman to recharge it than actually gets stored there. But it still fully recharges. ? I'm on vacation and can't look it up though, so I could be wrong.
