Weapon Proficiencies and Attacks per Melee

As per the rules, they would need a Weapons Kata to be able to use a (any) weapons with that MA form.
No matter what WP the char has.

Right, so for the OCCs that start with a martial art form and a modern W.P., how many attacks per melee do they get when firing that modern gun? Or is it another editing error that OCCs give the character a modern W.P. and not one of the four basic hand to hand skills for the attacks to use it?

I'd say just use the ApM from the martial art. The only style that gets picky with guns and ApM is Triad Assassin.

So learning Phoenix Eye allows you to fire a gun faster than if you learned Aikido? I was afraid that would be the only solution. Since firing the gun is done completely outside of the martial art form, this makes as much sense as Phoenix Eye allowing you to walk down a street faster than Aikido. I guess it's just a hole in the game mechanics.

Yup. Your best bet is to house rule around it.

Although if I remember correctly, everyone has access to Hth: Basic through the Secondary skill list.
