A Survivor's Journal...

You are on your own. The Army is MIA and our government is gone! There are no communications of any kind. Cities and towns have gone dark, and zombies fill the streets. The dead have risen and it would seem to be the end of the world. Help me, Mommy!

My opinion on this is to have jeremy become the main survivor because we all already know him and we all have a distinct hatred toward him. Let us see it from his point of view.. Also I like the military contact..that is something nifty...anyway that is just my opinion

Thanks for the story

Hey! We don't all hate him! I like him!

Otherwise I wouldn't have stood up for him earlier. Yeah, he's gonna do something stupid and get killed, but I empathize with him.

Agreed I gave him a bit of a defense too so i guess I should have thought of that...but we all have some kind of feeling for him

I'm too late too vote, but #5 is the way I was leaning. Sounds like the next group of people are going to be a good addition to the story. Please keep it coming!

Leon Kennedy wrote:I must sincerely apologize, but there isn't a real update on the story today. I started last night by rolling some dice to see if our three survivors could make it through the night in the maintenance shaft, and as the dice hit the table my wife came in and asked me to help her with something. So I set off to do that, and by the time I got back, my cat had decided that the dice were toys and batted them all over the dining room.

I sat down to try again, but again my wife needed my help. I decided that maybe I'd have to wait until the weekend to get anything done with this. I can, however, leave you with this teaser:

Our survivors have made it through the night, but during their ensuing attempt to make it to the outer doors one of them is going to be picked up and flown away. Does he live or die? What does he see from his vantage point of being flown away? What is taking him away, and where is he going? Stay tuned, faithful readers. The answers are coming starting monday...

This Journal is just one more thing from the fertile imaginations of the Palladium Audience that should be an ongoing (if not regular) feature in the pages of The Rifter.™

If you haven't petitioned Kevin to include this stuff, yet, you should do so now.

I'm not blowing smoke up your keister when I say that I think that a lot more people who don't have Dead Reign, will be inspired to buy that book (as well as the Civilization Gone Sourcebook) when they see your writing -it really gets the overall mood across to the reader.

Keep it up!!

Human nature, my friend. The first time Oder was carried off he was able to wriggle free. Without giving anything away, McAuliffe is wagering that Oder (if he is still on the island) may have been able to get free again. And if they spot Oder, and he doesn't look like a zed, then they have to try to save him. At least, that is what he is thinking. :)

And don't worry, true believers (man, I sound like Stan Lee!) - another entry is coming later this morning![/quote]

Human nature is about survival. Oder was wounded and thus (IMO) regulated to cannon fodder. The second he got carried off his usefulness ended. Another casualty. Now if Oder had something of value at the time when he was carried away, then that makes him still important as he has an item that is needed.

I just think that the good Sgt is letting his emotions take over instead of letting his survival instinct take over and just go all out trying to live (or escape in this case). Survive first, mourn later. ;)

OK Leon

I have been holding off commenting, because I wanted to see the new direction that this was going to take.

After reading a few entries... I don't really like the new format. I mean it is great for cliff hangers and I understand that it is because of the odd signal patterns that the group is getting... I just preferred the older format better. Also I wanted to let you know that I read it everyday. I have not given up on the story and am still very interested in the direction that it is going.

So to just give you my rating on it ... The original stuff was a 9-10/10. The newer entries are a 5-6/10. Because of the new format I don't feel as connected to the group as I did.

Anyway I didn't want to be critical and I hope to see where it is going to go.. Also I am dying to see them when they get full signal so we can get a full recounting of the story..without all of the interruptions

As much as I'd love to have Corey not be dead, I have to decline this request. He died. The dice determined everything that happened to him (from him hurting his foot to being rescued to his death), and I cannot take away what the dice have done.

That said, I may start a new story with new characters and see what the dice say this time around. But as far as Corey is concerned, may he rest in peace.

And lucky for us (can you hear the sarcasm) they all contained at least 1 zombie. Most of the zombies are your normal, garden-variety flesh-eaters, but there are a couple of nastier ones in there. There is at least one of them that I have started to refer to as a "sem-bie", which means that it doesn't look or act like a typical zombie, but will mow you down for lunch if given the chance. These sem-bies (which is a contraction for "semi zombie") are intelligent, look human, and can cause some serious problems. We have to be careful.

Also included in this nice gathering of party-crashers are a couple of the mutated zombies that can run. I haven't seen any of them with the claws (thank goodness cuz those bastards can climb), but we won't be able to make supply runs into the town anymore. We're pretty much trapped in the terminal building until we can get to the roof and pick a few of the runners off. Shouldn't be too hard, but we're dangerously low on ammo and cannot afford to miss.

We were able to crack open one of the locked crates we found in baggage, and what we found made no sense at all - dozens of test tubes containing dirt. Nothing but dirt-filled test tubes. No unusual markings, no other information recorded to let us know what they were. Just dirt-filled test tubes. What in the heck is this for? Cartouche was known for biological weapons, not geological surveys. I have no idea what this may mean.

We have received no more transmissions from the survivors in Buffalo. If they made a run for it, I can only hope that they made it to a boat. The only problem is that if they are headed here, they are now headed into a trap as we have zombies on the island. If they are on their way here, we need to conserve enough ammo to help them get from the boat to the terminal building. We sent another message to them telling them about our new situation, but again we have no way of knowing if they got it.

Sgt. Miller doesn't look too good today. I think he may have the flu - chills, fever, vomiting. He says he's all right, but I know better. Of course, I had to ask him if he came into contact with anything that may have caused him to become infected, but he swears he didn't. How could he have become infected if we haven't come into contact with any zombies? The ones that are on the island are, for the most part, unable to get to the terminal building thanks to the fence. And the only thing he did yesterday that I didn't do was open the crate and pull out a test tube...

Great..... The Sarge is done for, :frust: He fell for the "curiosity trap" and got infected by touching the test tube that quite possibly had dried slime residue. (just a guess mind you ;) ) Come Monday i see McAuliffe flying solo as he will have to put down the Sarge.

Sgt Miller has become comatose. He slipped into a coma late yesterday, and has not woken up since. He is completely unresponsive to sound, pain, or any other external stimulus. But the weird part is what's happening to his body. The boils and open sores are starting to heal themselves. His skin is going from dry and cracked to wet and clammy. His ears, eyes, nose, and mouth are leaking bodily fluids. It's almost as if he has too much water in him.

And WHY is the sarge still living? :badbad: I would have tied him down, then put him out of his misery and when he got back up, put him down again. I mean there has to be a useful weapon somewhere to use. Things can always be rigged up....... ;)

At the very least, I would have him tied down and/or locked in a room.

Question:
Is this an adventure you are running for actual players or just story (a good one at that) that you are writing?

Excellent additions! Please keep them coming!

I think that Leon is deliberately having (Sergeant? Staff Sergeant??) McAuliffe from calling himself by his Rank in his latest Journal Entries....

...if so, it's a pretty nice psychological touch.

Like i said, bullet in the dome! Bye-bye sarge! Not storing him like some old furniture. Top it all off McAuliffe isn't being straight with the survivors and that WILL bite him in the posterior! Now mutant zombie sarge may be on the loose...... :frazz: :frust:

Heckuva way to put us in suspense for the holiday. :P

Hope you have a safe and happy holiday weekend! 8) (this goes for everyone on the boards)

Great addition! I'm looking forward to reading more of this when you write the next page. I hope everyone has a great 4th of July.

Sorry not allowed to give that one out. Wayne is slow about answering email so it may take some time.
