Inspiration

Unread post by MikeM »

I picked up After The Bomb 2 about a year and a half ago and it sat on my book shelf since then. Several days ago, I was bored and wanting to work on a new campaign since my Mutants and Masterminds game fell apart. I was surfing the web when a friend of mine who is huge into anime sent me the link for a trailer called Cat Sh!t One on youtube. (If you haven't seen this yet, do yourself a favour and do it now) I immediately walked to my bookshelf, pulled off After The Bomb 2 and finally began to read it. I'm only about a quarter way in, but I already love it! I got ideas flowing like mad. I think I may even write up an adventure or two and submit it to the Rifter.

Since I saw that trailer on youtube, I have also started reading my stack of Elephantmen comics that have been collecting since the beginning but haven't bothered to read a single issue. Very excellent stuff.

So, my question is, what out there has inspired your After The Bomb games?
I am not looking for conversions or any such thing, just the name of comics, TV shows, movies, books, etc that are in the same vein as After The Bomb.

Thanks, and I hope to be around this forum a lot more often :)

TMNT , Albeado (Erma Felna: EDF), and the Canadian movie Rock-n-Rule were my original inspriartions.

Richard Thacher's, "Tales of the Morphing Period" - in which humans are changed into anthropomorphic animals - has also been a great inspiration.

A lot of times I will use a movie to get friends and such interested in a game. Want my friends to play Robotech, they come over and we watch some Robotech videos. However, I can't think of a single movie or show that I could use to get my friends interested in AtB. Although I love the TMNT cgi, its not exactly what I am going for. I want something post apocalyptic, with mutant animals. Sometimes its annoying that the setting is so unique. :)

The only thing that comes to mind is Rock & Rule: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_%26_Rule

I have the Thundar the Barbarian collection on DVD, love that...that's actually what got me interested in the PA genre. Road Warrior is good to. As well as some of the other 'B' movies in the genre.

I had completely forgotten about Thundarr. Good call.
