Re: Transporting Planes?
The Grey Falcon jet in Mercenaries can be disassembled and carried on a truck, and then reassembled as needed in 10 minutes. It's VTOL so no need for a run way.

you could always try something crazy like flying the plane around to get it from place to place...

Re: Transporting Planes?
Look into Sky Hawk Glitter Boy transport from Free Quebec. XM-180 Dragonfly Drop Ship in NGR is great for transporting power armors or GBs. NE-J-TA15 Javelin Combat Aerodyne & NE-ATRV3 Pathfinder All-Terrain RV in Naruni Second Wave can carry a large number of troops. You can also program a robot pilot to fly the plane to a safe area or bring it to your team and it can also repair the ship.

He should definitely get the grey falcon, you need a runway for an A-10

We dont want to loose the element of suprise. I personally I think the PC should pick a transport craft and mentioned above. However he has his eye on the GAW A-10. Perhaps a trailer? I dont know.
in that case, get a really powerful featherlite spell, tie a rope to it, and tell everyone it's just a kite
truthfully, i'm really not sure how you'd go about doing it. quite frankly, road conditions on Rifts earth are typically not all that great. by which i mean, most of the time there is no road. if you don't want to transport it by flying, well... it's just a really bulky, awkward, and (unfortunately for the player) wide object that won't conveniently fit through tight spaces (such as those created by most forests...)

Re: Transporting Planes?
No easy answers there...it's the balancing act you play with an asset like air support...It's GREAT when you got the fuel, the weather, the ordnance, and a clear bead on the target, but it's a bastard when you're trying not to advertise you got aircraft, or when you can't conveniently tote it around with you...Most of the time, most people in your position have to land and temporarily base-camp their aircraft at a distance from their main party, hoping to keep out of the line of fire and still be close enough to respond in timely fashion when the main group needs help...while still maintaining their own security(remember how the Colonial Marines lost their FIRST dropship in Aliens?)....

If the player is set on using an aircraft like an A-10, perhaps you should create a "roadable aircraft" design OR allow one s/he likes to be modified into a roadable design. Given the wilderness conditions it might need to be more off-road capable than people currently and in the past have looked at in RL.
Re: Transporting Planes?
Interesting how players sometimes like to have the most diverse groups they can even if it sometiems doesnt mesh together well. But there are several options you could use I guess.
1: Have the player chosoe a standard VTOL system from the Riftsverse such as a hovercycle, one of the already designed jets, or power armor.
2: make somethign up. I suppose if he really really really has his heart set on flying an A-10 you could make a mythological Navy testbed Varient with Swing wings and S/Vtol capacity or one that has been modified by a technomage into having VTOL ability. Maybe the wizard didnt exactly want to part with it or someone else wanted it and your player wound up with it instead. Remember with everythign the GM giveth there comes a price.......
3: He could go with a Harrier. I mean the A-10 Wingspan is 53' Length: 57' and empty weight is 24,959 lbs. A Harrier is 30' wingspan, 46' long and weighs 13,968 empty. There are no doubt vehicles in Rifts that could carry a harrier. Now i know a Harrier is not as high on the coolness factor as it lacks the BFG but this is Rifts man BFGs are a dime a dozen so just mount one in a pod or something.
4:He could have a vehicle that transforms into a jet sort of like the Highwayman tv series or he could have the ability to call his jet from some zord garage or somethign. Now that could be a surprise.

Besides driving/taxiing, that leaves teleportation or tucking it away in one helluva large magic pocket...

My advice is to talk him into using a Sky Cycle instead.

Or get a gray falcon, which would fill your need. If your characters were practiced and knew what they were doing, they wouldn't even need to know any mechanical skills in order to break it down and rebuild it. they would just need to be smart enough to know which place goes where, and in what order. You don't even need to know how it works.

Merc Ops has a laser target designator to call in missile strikes - those could come in from any source really.
And you know, there is also the NG Dragonfly, a "hover-chopper" that has a powerful dual rail gun and plenty of missile options that may fit the bill for this team.

Re: Transporting Planes?
i basically second the IHA Grey Falcon suggestion. while it's got great firepower, it's armor is limited, which means the player will need to be very careful in ue, and it's designed for easy transport.
plus it's fluffed in both mercenaries and WB7 as a pre-rifts american design, so you could easily work in an interesting backstory for it, if you don't want to use IHA...

Re: Transporting Planes?
Are there any rules for a harrier?
AFAIK in the books no. Kitsune has one on his webpage that was written uphttp://www.kitsune.addr.com/Rifts/Rifts-Earth-Vehicles/Golden_Age/GAW_AV8B_Harrier.htm that you might be able to use.
There is also the F-35 on there as well:http://www.kitsune.addr.com/Rifts/Rifts-Earth-Vehicles/Golden_Age/GAW_F-35_JSF.htm
Whichever way you go good luck with it.

You want to know a good vehicle to transport a jet fighter try a modified XM-170 Infantry Repair Barge in Traix & the NGR Book pgs 122-124.
