Right. TI just reads heat. If the wall is cool, it'll appear as dark on the output.

Yes, a bit of canvas is much more heat permeable than a concrete wall. :)

Most glass you will find will block the Long range IR wavelengths (that's just how it's made anymore) and if you place a pane of glass between you and that system you won't see through it.

I see what you were saying. I thought you were saying that even if the glass is warm you won't see the heat on it.

And I think that they have shortwave FLIRs already on the market that allow you to see filaments inside light bulbs, for example. Pretty cool.

this is why i prefer Backscatter X-ray technology and Millimeter wave radar for all my "seeing through walls" needs.
