Most effective weapon?

You are on your own. The Army is MIA and our government is gone! There are no communications of any kind. Cities and towns have gone dark, and zombies fill the streets. The dead have risen and it would seem to be the end of the world. Help me, Mommy!

Most effective weapon?

So in your opinion, what is the most effective weapon against zombies?

Personally, I think the machete is best suited for zombie slashing.

Ok, I give up. How do you fire it from a distance? Tie a string around the trigger? Or do you have a high-tech mount on one of your vehicles that allows it to be remotely fired? Also, why is this really a good option, and how do you aim a weapon from a distance?

So a Machine-gun "fires at a distance" unlike say, a Bo-Staff that "fires at melee range"?

By the way, Bo-Staff still outdoes the Machin-gun for damage. Win.

Typo for the loose.

Trust me when i say that a Heckler & Koch HK-21E is a headshot machine fur as long as you have ammo. that and if you use the zombies own instincts against them you can end up shooting a few and then drawing them into a really nasty boobytrap that will kill thousands of Zombies. Think of what happens when you rig a skyscraper to blow out it's base and then attract a swarm of zombies into it while you hangglide out of the place.

I use a short sword. Drive by slicing from a duel sport. For range work I use a HK UMP 45 and a HK mark 23 for a side arm

Where's my battle rifle option? Perhaps just a hunting rifle? I'd love to get my hands on an HK-91 for Palladium zombie purposes. If we were dealing with more real-world damage and penetration values, then something lighter, like the widely regarded .30 M1 Carbine, or even a good semi-automatic .22 LR with a large magazine capacity would be ideal.

If ammo is at a remotely tolerable level, those are by far my first picks.

For a long slog up close and personal, a good titanium crowbar is hard to beat, perhaps with a hand axe for back-up.

a couple of high yield glocks for backup.
titanium crowbar for close up
entrenching tool as close up backup.

Agreed. Myself, while I own a converted .308 Saiga, if I were fighting zombies, I'd probably use either my Hi-Point 9mm carbine or my Marlin Papoose. Neither of those two match the Saiga in terms of the damage they'd inflict on a torso or limb shot, but when it comes to penetrating the skull and messing up the brains, they'll suffice. Moreover, both the 9mm carbine and the .22 rifle are lightweight, easy to maneuver, head shot accurate out to 100 yards, and easy to find ammo for. In an urban environment, that's a tough combination to beat.

I voted Machine gun, because rifles were missing. Machine guns, in Dead Reign, are actually a good option. Shred the body, they fall in a coma, and then you just need to clean up.
But my favorite gun to use in Dead Reign is a .50 Caliber Rifle. Shoot the head, it is GONE!!!
Now real life, best is the .22 rifle, and either a crowbar or Katana. Plenty of ammo, and destruction of grey matter. :bandit:

Good luck in finding a .50 caliber rifle! You don't find too many of those in the average gun store! You're best bet for a rifle would be something in a common caliber, like .223, .308, 30-30 or even 30-06.

Before the idiots in my state government added them to the "Evil Assault Weapon" list. My local gunshop would keep three of them in stock and they would sell often enough to keep stocking them. It al depends on what part of the country you live in. Then again those were single shot rifles and not repeaters.

So do I. it's the adding them to the states idiotic "Assault weapon" ban is why you don't see them around anymore. heck the law was never about controling crime but so that the idiots in congress could remove those "scary" looking Semi-automatic weapons from the hands of the people they are supost to be serving.

Back to the real topic. We are having a best gun for a zombie outbreak on the IMFDB and basically a lightweight magazine fed semi-automatic rifle is what most people are going with.

For anyone saying intelligence is the best weapon... When we are trapped in hallway dead end with 8 to 10 zeds coming at us, you can throw some riddles at them, while I riddle them with bullets. Seriously though why the heck would you ever go hand to hand unless there was no choice? Guns for the win!

Chainsaw anyone???

Chainsaw + shotgun? Sorry, picturing Army of Darkness.

I'd frankly go in for machinegun, plus hand grenades plus motorcycle. Open up on them from a distance, if they are primarily coming in from a single front keep it up till they are at closer range, then toss a few hand grenades, boggie out on the motorcycle till you are at a good distance (or until they really start to close the circle if coming from multiple directions) and then rinse and repeat.

Alternately if a group of reavers, set a trap by the docks of a port city. Sail a boat near the docks, off load a small group of reavers to attract a whole crap load of zombies to the docks, then hop on a dingy to get back to the boat. Then blaze away from the relative safety of the boat...just don't drop anchor!

I finally figured out how to play this game. Shotgun, point-blank, neck. works almost everytime... since shooting them in the head is pointless. But I agree that a chainsaw and point-blank would work too. The only problem is the noise, so have on some good running shoes.

I want to see the stats for one of those tree clearing machines, you know the kind with the massive circular saws on the backhoe like arm? Drive one of those right through a crowd of zombies after reinforcing the cab.

Good instant escape plan, at least in the 'burbs is a contractor grade battery powered circular saw. Run in to a dead end, just slice right through the wall right quick. Great for removing zombie limbs and heads as well. Course a chain saw might work just about as well at the wall removal. Course neither would be great in a city with all of the concrete and cinder block construction.

I live in houston

theres three that I know of in out of 10 gunstores that have them around me.*

I also know someone who can custom build them but thats just out of pure dumb luck.

and Ironicaly you would probably be better off with a semi auto/pump shotgun than anything that can fire a .50 bmg, especialy if you can get a clip loader.

Ironicaly most of the stores I mentioned could get their hands on various versions of the Saiga 12 with a 10 round mag, some of them can even get the 20 round mag for you within 48 hours.

* they are for demonstration use only, bascialy they want to make dang sure you know what your in for when you order one. I had our entire game group test fire them a while back.

A nice sharp katana.

Tremendous slicing power, light (relatively), fast, and can keep zeds at a decent distance for a melee weapon (3 feetish), silent. Lots of options with a sword: cut off the head, chop off arms/legs, stab thru the top of the head from above.

Keep a few and don't forget the sharpening stone! :)

After my first game I have to say a Semi automatic rifle worked over by a gunsmith is the best anti zombie weapon. Improving the grip, trigger pull and scope and sitting on top of a house that Zombie AR is allot less scary. That and the ammunition is fairly common.

Ahh yes, the AAS, lovely piece of work.
There is also the auto shotgun that the Spetznaz (Russian Special Forces) use, and its pretty nice too.

A shotgun, IMHO, is a good last resort weapon, or something best used to clear an escape path.
Unfortunately, they are loud and will attract attention and they have a finite ammo supply. I guess you could use it as a club if your run out of shells, but thats true of almost anything.

A nice sharp sword never runs out of ammo (unless you count your arms getting tired from all the swinging), makes no noise (unless you start having Sci-Fi movie fantasies and "vwing!" with every slice). Only drawback is it does need occasional sharpening.
Be at peace, my people. All shall be looked up.
