Question RE: Rules for breaking out of a zombie's grip.

You are on your own. The Army is MIA and our government is gone! There are no communications of any kind. Cities and towns have gone dark, and zombies fill the streets. The dead have risen and it would seem to be the end of the world. Help me, Mommy!

If the juggys is lower then slouchers, its probably a mis-print. Maybe split the difference and call a Jug 80% to break its grip.

tlazaroff wrote:Yeah, I can't find the text in the handbook, but now I'm thinking that it might have said that to break from a zombie's grip you must apply more PS than the zombie has. This would make sense then that the Juggy would need 30/50%. This is probably the rule I'll play by.

I can its on p. 58 of Dead Reign at the top of the right column.
"It requires a combined P.S. 50% higher than the zombie's own P.S. to pull a captive from a zombie's grip. That's typically a combined P.S. of 36 or higher. Its usually easier to blast the the zombie or chop of its grasping limb."
Bolding is the book's.

This would make sense to me because it is easier to get away then to help someone else escape, at least from what i remember from rough-housing with my brother and friends growing up... :-P

No it says "combined strength" so it assumes that its usually strength from 2 or more people but it makes no indication that the person who is being gripped is or is not one of the two people that are trying to get free.

I would actually assume that the person who is being gripped is almost always one of the participants in the combining of strength. Unless they are unconcious/dead I would feel safe assuming they are probably trying their damnedest to to get free of the zombie that grips them.

So IMO If Character A is grabbed by a zombie (Z) then to break free you would need to overcome Z's strength by 50% with some combination of Character's strengths, this combinaiton always includes Character A (unless unconcious/dead) and may or may not include Characters B, C, D, E, F, & G (likely only 6 others may be involved 3 grabbing the zombie and pulling one way and 3 grabbing the PC and pulling the other.

Yes I am also assuming that they would allow a single character to break free with only their own strength if they would excede the Z's by 50%, however I feel safe in this assumption. I also feel safe in assuming that if it were to be stated in the book it would not limit it to the grabbed PC and one other but would allow multiple people to assist against really strong Z's.

Lots of assumptions there but I really do think that its the way it was ment to be. They messed up on the newer specialized Zed.
