Instant Kills

Unread post by lostsoul336 »

Ok i ran into this last night and allowed it but now i figured i would ask what the correct answer would be. my group was captured by minotaurs and they managed to escape and find a couple of short swords. they were prowling down the tunnells when they came to a couple of sleeping minotaurs. they asked if they could just coup de' gra them and i thought about it for a minute and allowed them to kill them in 1 hit. my question is what are the "official" rules for this situation if there are any or how do you handle it.
I've faced everything from the Mechaniods to the 4 Horsemen, what's the CS war gonna throw at me?

A juicer with an impact wrench, so what, I've got a UAR-1 Enforcer, what's he going to do.

This definitely falls intot he use common sense area nd i thinkyou did exactley what should havew been done.

Kevin himself used an example to deomstrate when to use common sense. T paraphrase, a character with alot of SDC and HP jumps on a grenade before it gets off. He is dead. He has plenty ofsdc and hp left but fact is he jumped on a grenade so he is dead because common sense dictates he shuld be regardless of his sdc and/or hp.
I am very opinionated. Yes I rub people the wrong way but at the end of the day I just enjoy good hard discussion and will gladly walk away agreeing to not agree :D

I think i remember reading that somewhere. What i was leaning towards was having them do critical damage direct to HP. i might do that for certain creatures but proabably will just use common sense. Thanks

There are no rules for a Coup de Grace. It's entirey GM's call.

You can have something done good, fast and cheap. If you want it done good and fast, it's not going to be cheap. If you want it done fast and cheap it won't be good. If you want something done good and cheap it won't be done fast. ~ Dark Brandon

The closest thing is in Vampire Kingdoms (I forget the page) where it mentions staking a sleeping vampire.

You'd have to have the strength of a titan and a massive edged weapon to have even a hope of beheading the creature in one blow. And I'd say in most cases the scales of such a creature would simply be too tough to allow any but the sharpest (and magical) of blades to cleave the creature in twain.

I would like to point out that even if a creature is MDC if shot in the eye with an SDC pistol it would still hurt and be quite distracting, even debilitating. In Superman returns, when he is shot in the eye its total BS. If I poke you in the chest, even if i don't bruse you or do tissue damage, you feel it. For getting shot in the eye not to hurt you would have to have no sence of touch.

Or be in a fantasy world. I wonder which one applies in this situation...

Love it you did the right call
Skilled Warriors of old
Their wariness was as that of one crossing a river in winter;
Their caution was as that of one in fear of all around;
Their gravity was as that of a guest
Their relaxation was as that of ice at the melting point
