Mrs. Prosek

Unread post by Aaryq »

Is there any canon on Mrs. Prosek (as in Karl's wife, not little Jo-Jo le Deux)? I imagine her as like June Cleaver. Sweet, caring and loving and the stereotypical 50's mom/wife, extremely skilled in home-maker arts who is 100% completely oblivious to her hubby and darling son's evil nature. Anyone else wish to discuss Mrs. Prosek. Oh, and for the record, I call her Helen.
There should be a specific sub-forum of the Rifts forum dedicated to the only hope for salvation of the human race, the Coalition States.

I believe there is mention of her in Federation of Magic, and/or the Cyberknights book.
Essentially she was captured by the FoM and was rescued by Lord Coak. During that time she developed anti Coalition sentiments.
Aside from that I don't know much else.

She was returned to the CS and she doesn't really have anti-CS sentiments in that despite her capture and torture, when she was rescued she developed an understanding that not all DBees are evil. I believe that she is generally kept away from the public eye since, so as not to have any of her opinions slip out.

I always pictured her as a strong intelligent woman that her husband was able to confide with and bounce ideas off of. She was probably involved in a collective circle of wives of powerful movers and shakers in Chi-Town and much of her activities would have supported her husband's political career.

I keep thinking she has some kind of sleeper agent spell inside her, seems like she got away a little too easy and with so many years imprisoned FoM could done endless numbers of things to her from implanting psionic memories to using a circle of control which if used by super high level mage on a nexus during a time of power could last for decades. Maybe they even cloned her and still hold the real one lol. Never underestimate Stockholm Syndrome which again a few well placed mind wipes could conceal till the time is right, be cool if it turns out she a fully trained Shifter with her P.P.E. pool locked away somewhere till the duration ends or a certain event happens. Think of the damage she could do if she opened a dimension portal in Prosek section of Chi-Town late one evening lol!

Freakin OUCH! That senario could spell the end for at least the Chi-Town power base of the CS.

Agreed and seconded. I would not put it past Dunscon to make her a female version of the Manchurian Candidate.

She could also be a sleeper for the Republicans. She would be useful during phase two
for a figure head that the CS population would relate to.

Who knows, maybe the Emperor met Tarn when they where younger.

I definitely feel some personal tension between Erin Tarn and Joseph. Lover scorned perhaps?

I've always found Mrs. Prosek to be an excellent plot tool for hatching a coup scheme within the CS. My second favorite is Bradford, the guy down in Lone Star.

If you consider having been tortured by Dunscon and surviving then being set free better. Physically maybe mentally is another story.

Correct. I don't remeber which book it was(one of the SoT books,if I had to guess), but a group Cyberknights rescued her and returned her to the CS. The son is still dead, and his soul is rumored to be trapped in a crystal held in enemy hands(Scard IIRC).

That information was correct when it was printed, in that particular world book, ie World Book 11

However as Palladium often does, they advanced that particular story line in World Book 16, with Jo-Anna Prosek being rescued.

And if you'd like another piece of that particular puzzle/story, check out the write up for Corin Scard in SoT 6....

Just to add to this...

The Federation of Magic staged a terrorist attack and Mrs. Emperor and the Lil' Guy were killed, but their bodies weren't recovered. In reality (HA!) the son was killed but Lady Prosek was captured by the FoM and held prisoner for several years. Cyberknights found her, rescued her, and took her back home. On the way back to the CS, she spent time with her rescuers, some of whom were D-Bees. This caused her to relax her stance against them, as they saved her even though she is their enemy.

I don't think that "they aren't all evil" is that radical of an idea.
Besides, if Karl only just got her back after believing her to be dead, I don't think he'll be all that keen on letting her go out very much for fear of losing her again.

well, there's a big difference between "i don't think it's right to hunt down and kill d-bees" and "i'm prepared to be a vocal activist and publicly challenge the values of the coalition states society".

people are forced into situations where they have tolerate stuff they don't like all the time. it's not like mrs prosek has a social obligation to attend d-bee murdering parties or anything.

with the way the CS is, how is "not all are evil" not a radical idea?

Well, IIRC in CWC it states there are CS citizens that are allowed to use D-bee labor (at pretty much slave wages and not within the city fortresses themselves). That, along with the fact that the Burbs hold a substantial d-bee population, tells me that the CS stance on d-bees is not an absolute "All things not human are evil and must be destroyed" as many think. I'm sure the CS has a list somewhere of D-bees that says which d-bees may be useful as a work force for jobs that are unpleasant or too dangerous for humans to do safely (Again IIRC, Joseph the Second is a proponent of using d-bees as a slave labor force). I'm sure that list also states which d-bees should be executed on sight.

IMO, the CS would be perfectly content if every d-bee within its borders (and the extended borders of the Emperor's planned expansion area) just moved out west and out of CS territory. So long as they don't live too close to CS interests or there isn't something of value discovered in the area they settle in, d-bees could probably live in peace without (too much) fear of the CS.

The Emperor (and likely most of the High Command) knows that d-bees aren't all baby eating monsters and only plays up the "All d-bees are monsters" angle in order to give the populace a "boogie man" (much like nearly every U.S. administration in my memory has had one. From Nazis to Commies to Terrorists) in order to distract the populace from just how little actual freedom they have.

As to the Mrs., she was held captive and tortured mentally and physically for years. I doubt that a few days with some good-guy d-bees and magic users turned her into a staunch "D-Bee rights now!" activist. At best she knows that d-bees are not ALL evil, so they don't all need to be gunned down on sight. But it is still best to err on the side of caution if one must deal with them.
