Lichdom/imortality spell or rituals?

Unread post by BABSDAGGER »

I'm rather new to PB and not well versed in any of the rifter books so all i have to go on is most of the 2nd edittion Palladium fantasy RPG, (will soon be buying Dead reign). Anyway my question is if there is a spell or ritual for necromancers, wizards, dark priests, or any of the other OCC's or RCC's that grants imortality trough any or some of the ways that lichdom is obtained in many fantasy books. What I've read most often in fiction its a very long ritual process of placing your soul into another object/place. There has allso been referances to potions or dark packs with other powerfull beings to obtain this power. Now the lich in my opion isn't exactly the ultimate form of power but it seems to do a great deal in getting you toward further more lofty goals such as becomeing a god. Allso i think i should tag on here that i the lich type if there are diffrent kinds that im thinking of in this question is granted some immensly powefull and usefull abilities/skills. Often they can recall ALL spells they knew in life and cast them without using any energy (ppe) or mental strain, are very hard to kill eather because the body is magicaly enhanced or has become physicaly tougher. Typicaly in order to kill these things requires destruction BOTH of the physical form AND w/e object there soul has been placed into, and assureing that the spirt has nothing to easily possess after its death such as a minnion, nearby corpse, magical weapons that are sentient, or open minds (people in meditation/prayer etc). Now i know that as an OCC something like this would be INCREDIBLY overpowered but as a potential goal of magical classes or an enemy boss i would absolutly love to have some stats or opions on this if they are allready out there in ciculation.

so has anybody thought this up before?
laid down a class or stat system?

comments, ideas, and opions are fully welcome. if any clarification is needed i will attempt to give it so let me have it PB comunity!

Greetings and Salutations. I don't know much about a lich, but I know the general premise. I don't think there is anything quite the way you descibed, but I will list a couple options I do know.

1) Mummy Immortalus: Looks much like a mummy. It's durable, regenerates rapidly, has several invulnerabilities, but can be intelligent (not a guarantee) and can (potentially) cast magic. Found in Monsters & Animals.

2) Necromancers (found in PF Book 3: Adventures in the High Seas) have a level 15 spell that can turn them into a type of vampire (with similar strengths and vulnerabilities). Necromancers are also found in Rifts World Book 4: Africa, but I'm not 100% sure if the spell is found in there or not.

I don't know if either of those would fit the bill of what you're looking for. I can't give too much information on the specifics, but hopefully gave a good rough idea for you. At the very least they may provide a jumping off point. Or maybe someone else on the boards will have a better answer than I do. Thank you for your time and patience, please have a nice day. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

In the Palladium Gaming system, "lichdom" is vastly underrated.

For one thing, Palladium Undead NEVER gain in experience levels -at least, not those who were living and then had themselves converted to be the undead. It's probably a Game Balance issue.
(I don't know if "natural" undead like Ghouls and Aberrations ever increase.)
For another thing, a lot of those 'living to undead' conversions wipe out a lot of your skills and in some cases a good amount of your original I.Q. stat.

P.S. You DON'T want to try the Ancient R.C.C. route from Rifts: South America II; that involves your soul being locked into your rotting corpse, for centuries, while you're there, aware, every single moment of it. For some reason the experience drives you mad......

"Game Balance" in Palladium? What?
It's the only explanation that makes any sense -nothing else properly and sensibly explains how a guy can become an Intelligent Undead can live on for thousands to hundreds of thousands of years, experience new things, and yet not learn any of them.

Could you imagine spending even a year doing whatever it is that your character does as an OCC, yet your character never gets better at it? Much less thousands of years?

I don't know how old (or new) you are to Kevin's games, but Game Balance explains a lot of stuff that doesn't otherwise make any sense -like most supernatural creatures NOT wanting to incorporate High Technology into their arsenals no matter how awesome it is at killing the enemy, for example.
