A Great GM

Unread post by drakinn »

What makes a great GM in a game setting like Rifts?
Skilled Warriors of old
Their wariness was as that of one crossing a river in winter;
Their caution was as that of one in fear of all around;
Their gravity was as that of a guest
Their relaxation was as that of ice at the melting point

Pretty much those same indefinable things that makes a good GM in general.
DM is correct by the way. - Ninjabunny
It's a shoddy carpenter who blames his tools. - Killer Cyborg
Every group has one problem player. If you cannot spot the one in your group; look in the mirror.
It is not a good session until at least one player looks you in the eye and says "you sick twisted evil ****"

Greetings and Salutations. I don't have anything much to add. As long as the GM doesn't single players out to pick on them (I don't like it done to me or seen it done to others) then I'm pretty easy to please and keep happy. However, as stated by some others, the same qualities can apply to Rifts as other settings. So I'll include this link to something from the PF forum asking the same/similar question. Hope it helps. Thank you for your time and patience, please have a nice day. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

Someone who is good at describing the setting/ action, and is both fair and consistent. Someone who doesn't play "gotcha" with new players.

Someone who can think on their feet, keep their players happy yet challenged, keep track of what they have going on, and posses the ability to tell a story very well.
There should be a specific sub-forum of the Rifts forum dedicated to the only hope for salvation of the human race, the Coalition States.

This is personal issue. What makes a GM great is not in his ability to tell a story, or to be multiple people all at once, or someone who knows the rules, or anything like that. A great GM is one who gives his players exactly what they are looking for, no matter what that may be. If the players want zero story and all hack-and-slash and the GM gives them that, then that's a great GM.
