documenting a campaign

Unread post by dante144 »

So we just finished our 3rd session in a campaign and I was considering recording our session in some way.

What ways have you recorded your campaign?

I have seen a couple of Robotech/Rifts websites with what seems to be their history of their game. Do any of you have podcasts of your adventure?

Greetings and Salutations. I play most of my campaigns online (chat based) these days, so I tend to just save the logs and then post some on my site. Some of my logs have gotten lost due to one complication or another, and some campaigns I don't post online (because of conversions or graphic content such as detailed torture methods making it not exactly kid friendly). Similarly, I'm sure you can find other records in the form of Play by Post campaigns. This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but thought to mention the options out there. Thank you for your time and patience, please have a nice day. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

Thanks for posting!

I may try to induce a friend to record and edit our sessions. Is there a thread on this forum for archived campaigns?

Greetings and salutations. I don't believe so. I have seen people give rundowns/summaries of their gaming sessions before though. Usually they just post it in the appropriate forum. So if it's a Rifts game they post it in the Rifts forums. If it's a Palladium Fantasy campaign they post it in the Palladium Fantasy forum. Then each post will be a gaming session, or something similar. Since it's on a public forum some people may respond in between the gaming sessions logs (things like how it's an awesome game, keep it up, ask questions, or other comments you may be familiar with from these boards). I hope that helps. Thank you for your time and patience, please have a nice day. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

For games that have started to go some where (i.e once I know it's not a passing fancy from burnout from a better game), I keep a digital time line of events that pass, as well as adding information before the games start (Births of major characters so I can get a better grip on their view of the world from current events), it's kinda fun to see the time-line grow to be honest.

For my core game, I'm slowly trying to novelize the results of it, but it's slow going.
Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless

We are documenting this campaign. Shall I post it here or is there another forum to document a campaign?

I think it would be better to post the story of your campaign in the forum of that specific game, not here in the GM forum. -- like Prysus wrote.

This is an interesting topic to me. I have tried recording sessions before only to experience cataclysmic hardware failure every time. I will float the idea of trying it again with my players.

Another option would be keeping a campaign website. Wikis work quite well for this purpose. Alos, I think that the Obsidian Portal website has tools for this purpose.
Currently recruiting for Beyond the Supernatural games in 2019 which I am running on Discord: voice, text, and play-by-post. Here is the non-expiring server invite link: 418BQSLG

Thanks guys!

Also I am giving them a lot of XP for documenting the adventure. I read the first one and it really is interesting to see my players viewpoint..

I have my secretary minute the entire session and then produce a handy recap to be mailed to the players prior to the next session so it takes less time on having a recap. :bandit:
Rifter 52 Cannibal Magic
Rifter 55 The Ancestral Mystic P.C.C.
Rifter 59 The Lopanic Games adventure "The Lion, the Ditch & the Warlock". Illustrations to this adventure can be found here.
Rifter 71 & 72 Double Issue Ninjas & Superspies adventure "On a Wing & a Prayer"

I usually ask them what the remember from the last session and then do a brief recap. I like what they are writing. YOu can find the log in the RIFTS forum.
