Detroit FanFare Mini-Report

The convention attendance is light. Booth cost $1000.00 Today’s total sales were $90.00. Ouch.

HOWEVER, I'm having a great time. Caught up with many old pals and had a great time with Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Got a bunch of TMNT RPG books autographed and con sketch. Kevin was as gracious as always. The guy was on the convention floor ALL day signing autographs and doing con sketches for fans.

I also saw my dear friend, William Messner-Loebs, and a slew of old pals, many of whom I hadn’t seen in 9-10 years – Arvell Jones, Keith Pollard, Tom Orzechowski, the Kuch, Paul Burke, Gary Reed, Dave Dorman and others. Half of them didn’t recognize me with my silver hair. Kevin Eastman was the funniest. I was sitting in the front row of his panel talk with my friends Micki and Michelle. The entire panel talk, Kevin kept looking over at me. Afterward, he tells me that during the entire panel he’s thinking, "I know that guy, but who is he?" He told me, “Kevin, it’s the hair. I didn’t recognize you with silver hair. It really makes you look different.”

I’ve been getting the same comment all weekend. Everyone remembers me 10 years ago with mostly dark hair. It has been really fun and funny for me. I guess I’ve been out of the comic book and convention scene for too long. The good news is, everyone was glad to see me. Nice.

So on a personal level, the convention has been a blast. Making plenty of personal and business connections. In fact, I was so busy catching up that I was only at the Palladium booth for maybe an hour all day. Thank goodness, many Palladium fans tracked me down to get autographs.

Hopefully, sales will be better Sunday. Hey, it is what it is. At least I got a nice break from the office and had a blast with old friends.

Sincerely,
