Though, to be honest, even with Splicer Tech, starship troopers, and 'colonial' troops stiffening resistance, fighting demonic/Splugorth hordes are going to take some major doing and more than a little luck, and the casualties incurred for the good guys will be horrendous, especially if any other enemies decide to take advantage of the situation to pounce on under-defended flanks.

ROUGH PYTHON Augmentation Package:
( budget of 6.16 million per operative)
“I SEE you! Yeah, YOU, behind that tree under that holocamo-tarp! Don’t believe me? Fine! CATCH!”

ROUGH PYTHON is a sensory enhancement augmentation regimen available to GNE soldiers whose primary training is focused on reconnaisance, with secondary modifications for speed, mental acuity, and wilderness survival. Sight and hearing are amped up to superhuman levels, while the nervous system is finetuned to increase perceptual capabilities and memory, including new skill acquisition. Special attention is taken to increase the recipient’s ability to detect paranormal and supernatural threats, an important fact of life on Rifts Earth. Attention is also given to modifying the internal organs for both long duration operations in the field and quick sprints. GNE Rangers, Special Ops, Spies, and Wilderness Scouts are eligible for ROUGH PYTHON.
ROUGH PYTHON recipients acquire telltale dark eyes, and a tendency to be restless and fidgety. Many take to wearing dark glasses and ear phones when off-duty to cut down on the constant stream of stimulation assaulting their enhanced senses. Meditation as a skill is taught to recipients of the augmentation to allow them to tune out extraneous sensory stimuli to keep themselves from being overwhelmed by the extra perceptual power, and being plagued by headaches.

Has the Twin engine flying wing - Naval Research Lab MITE on it. found by accident

And add the main site:

Not sure I'd rigorously use the designation systems(I've been ratehr winging it), but it looks comprehensive.
Likewise I've used portions of the Rocket and Missile Index in the past. Nice to have the overall link, though. Thanks.
Cleaned up the ROUGH PYTHON entry(removed the price 'scaffolding' for a cleaner appearance).

While most of your posted packages seem to be Class 3 by their names. Could you add they Class to the package's text. I am a little brain dead on which class they are. Sorry. Thank you.
taalismn wrote: GNE/PS Genetic Modification Programmes are categorized as follows:

*Class 1 Enhancements
*Class 2 Enhancements
*Class 3 Enhancements
Paladin Steel and the Greater New England government have in play a number of various ‘super’ programs under such project names as HOT EMERALD, ROUGH PYTHON, LATE OMEGA, VITAL GAMMA, NEXT DAGGER, GOLD SMOKE, KNIFE BEACON, BLACK GRAVEL, and RESTLESS VENOM. One of the more complicated and expensive (PU2 budget of 10 million per operative) that has made the operational stage is TUNGSTEN CREED, an augmentation ‘package’ meant to create an overall more durable and more capable special ops commando and ranger, detailed below:
*Class 4 Enhancements
*Class 5 BioConstructions

Aegis Stellar Industries ‘Chimbane’ Heavy Attack Ship
(Based on the Douglas Model 1186 VSA studies from 1948--http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3318/5728344167_cc3b3f64d8.jpg
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal11/10601-10700/gal10695-Kraken-Swiersz/01.jpg)
(Aka ‘Chim’, ‘StickFighter’, ‘Nova-Sled’, ‘Chicken-Perch’)

“Okay, we’ve gotten reliable intelligence that a slaver dreadnought is going to be starting its run on the Leeside worlds, starting from its entry point in the Darius Hypercorridor. They’re obviously hoping to take advantage of the CCW’s distraction and the withdrawal of regular Fleet units from this region of space. Not even those amazons in the Devia Sector know of this, so there’s little chance of it being a trap meant to bait in victims. No slaves aboard yet, so that gives us a good opportunity to hit the thing early and hard without fear of collateral damage. We know the what, the when, and the where, so when they come out of hyper, we stand a good chance of being ready and waiting to take advantage of their sensor confusion. We hit the behemoth hard enough with cruise missiles and kinetic kill spitballs, and even their vaunted disintegrator beams will have little time to react and work.
We got one shot at this. We succeed, we’ll have taken a goliath piece of slaver scum out of existence and struck a blow for freedom. That’s why we’re turning to you people. You know Sleds, and you know how to fly them hard in combat, and you know how to best use them. If anybody can pull this off, it’s you and yours.
Good hunting. Bag us a big one.“

The Chimbane(named for an ancient type of spear) is ASI’s design for a heavy fighter/strike craft designed to hit capital ships and planetary targets.
It is readily evident to the casual observer that the Chimbane is really two ships in one; a small sleek two-man fighter perched atop a massive attack sled. The attack portion of the composite craft is long and sleek, with a long protruding dagger-prow, split V-tail, twin swiveled nacelles on side wings holding additional engines and weapons, with a thick central pylon faced in the leading edge with navigation and targeting sensors, and a trailing edge showing the venting for a powerful C-G drive generator. Mounted atop this pylon is the small, sleek, arrow-like crew cabin, complete with its own CG-drive, short-range FTL propulsion unit, and light armament.
The Chimbane is meant to use its massive speed to power in past enemy defenses and deliver its warload of cruise missiles or kinetic bombs, then dash back out. Crews are taught to use rapid acceleration, and either a sudden braking maneuver or a peel-off ‘toss’ to lend additional speed to deployed ordnance, using the fighter’s own impressive speed to add power to kinetic strikes. If that isn’t possible, however, the crew cabin/fighter can detach and peel off to escape, leaving the attack section to self-destruct or, if still flyable, set to make a final kamikaze run on the target.
The Chimbane has been compared by history-minded pilots to a torpedo bomber or a manned missile in concept. While possessing an impressive throw-weight of ordnance, the Chimbane relies on a standoff attack and lacks the overall agility for close-in maneuvering, but to ensure best results in an attack, often must make a terminal approach, exposing itself to intense defensive fire.
The Chimbane has a few operational problems; its large size means that it cannot effectively be embarked aboard smaller carriers(or if it is, it is often at the expense of the capability of carrying other fighters and small craft). Despite the large size(nearly a third longer than the CCW Proctor) and its FTL drive, the Chimbane is ill-suited for long-duration missions; its command module is quite small and uncomfortable for extended periods of time on patrol/station. The large ship also handles poorly in atmosphere in dogfighting maneuvers; smart pilots will not pursue into an atmosphere or attempt to engage targets in-atmo. Nevertheless, for its heavy firepower and speed, the Chimbane is well-liked by its crews.
The Chimbane has thus far ONLY been encountered with PS/ASI forces in the Three Galaxies; none have yet been seen deployed in the Rifts Earth Solar System.

Market Cost: 18 million credits
Systems of Note:
Standard Starfighter Systems, plus:

*Active Sensor Jamming---This is a powerful jamming suite that . Unlike passive stealth, however, sensor-equipped opponents will KNOW something is out there, they just can’t get an accurate fix on its exact whereabouts.

Weapons Systems:
1)Bomb/Missile Bay---Mounted in the forward fuselage ahead of the hull ‘pedestal’ is a large payload bay with a 60,000 lb capacity
a) Long Range Missiles----16

b) Cruise Missiles----8

c) Kinetic Bombs---These are meant for attacking stationary targets like planets and large space stations
*43,000-lb ‘Special’ Bomb-----Designed to be ‘lobbed’ for maximum kinetic impact, the super-heavy bomb does 1d8x1,000 MD to 250 ft blast radius, and can penetrate up to 500 ft of earth(300 ft of rock or concrete), for attacking bunkers or undercutting larger structures.

*Light Kinetic Penetrator Module ---Works similar to a WWII ‘Earthquake Bomb’. Kinetic weapons have the advantage of leaving little or no radiation to contaminate a battlefield or potential postwar acquisition. The LKP module actually carries three separate RVs on a maneuverable ‘bus’ stage, allowing three separate targets to be hit, or a single target to be bracketed. Each RV does 1d6x100 MD to a 100 ft radius and can penetrate up to 250 ft of loose soil(100 ft of rock or concrete)

*Fuel Air Explosive Munition---A single warhead(no multiple warheads) non-nuclear area of effect weapon that disperses a cloud of volatile fuel droplets in a mist over the target area, then ignites it in a rapidly propagating explosion. Besides thermal damage, the real damage from this weapon comes in the massive overpressure shockwave that it creates, capable of forcing its way into open ducts and vents, and imploding vehicles and bunkers. Also known as a ‘Daisy Cutter’, it is often used to simultaneously secure and clear landing zones of obstacles(both sentient and material). The heavy FAEM carried by the Chimbane can do 4d6x10 MD to a 500 ft radius, plus 3d6x10 MD to everything else in a 3,000 ft ft radius. Those caught within the blast radius are also likely (01-88%) likely to be bowled over by the blast and stunned, if not worse....

*ElectroMagnetic Pulse Weapon---Designed to knockout unprotected electronics and power distribution networks, exploding at high altitude for maximum effect. Up to four of these weapons can be carried on a common ‘bus’ by the Chimbane.
Damage: 5d6x10 MD to 100 ft blast radius
EM effects: Used against unshielded power grids(such as cities and towns), the particle blast has a 99% chance of knocking down electrical systems, including vehicles, in an 100-mile radius of the point of detonation. Unprotected computers and other hardware not protected by surge protectors, and hooked into the common power grid, may still be affected up to a hundred miles or more away by power surges through the power lines.
The EMP is less effective against shielded systems such as those on space structures(25%) and military systems(10% for surface military vehicles), which are hardened against radiation.

*Shipkiller Missile----This is an attempt to make a ‘giant-killer’ by using nuclear cluster munition technology. When the independently targeted tactical nuclear charges disperse just short of the target vessel, then surround it before detonating, their multi-vector plasma jets can peel open a small warship. This weapon has been approved for use ONLY in space.
Range: 800 miles in space
Damage: Swarmhead--A Swarmhead is a new type of munition that fires a cluster of twenty plasma-nuclear warhead ‘skeets’. These ‘skeets’ deploy airburst fashion about 60 ft up off the ground(or 6,000 ft in space), then deploy short range fast-scan targeting sensors. If a target is detected in the limited scope of the sensors, the warhead orients itself, and fires like a shaped charge, sending a powerful jet of superheated plasma lancing into, and through the target. A Swarmhead plasma jet does 2d6x10 MD to a 3 ft blast radius(so all 50 shells firing on a single target would do 2d6x500 MD!)
The initial focusing explosion also does a fair amount of concussion damage to the surrounding area, though this is considerably less than the critical damage inflicted by the plasma jet. The concussion does 6d6 MD to an 160 ft blast radius
Rate of Fire: Single shot
Payload: One missile with 50 submunitions

*PS Long Lance II Nuclear Missile---This is an SLBM-sized nuclear weapon that takes up the same space as SIX smaller LRMs.
NOTE: PS combat doctrine FORBIDS the use of strategic nuclear devices against planetary targets, without full authorization and coded permission from the top echelons of High Command(fortunately, as few ships carry Long Lances or strategic nuclear weapons, there have been few chances to test this doctrine).
Range: 1,000 miles(4,000 miles in space)
Damage: 2d4 x 1,000 MD to a 4.6 mile destruction radius
Payload: One missile

(Option)TW Breaching System(optional)---This can be fitted to any LRM missile prior to firing. Despite its high-PPE installation cost, the system is popular because it allows PS’s relatively low-tech missiles to penetrate high-tech energy shielding, and deliver a surprise knockout blow! Uses the Energy Disruption spell to penetrate enemy defenses. If facing a known magic-using enemy, this system may be enhanced with Dispel Magic Barrier. The system(values taken from Siege on Tolkeen 1, pg. 69) costs 495 PPE to install, 20 PPE to activate per minute of operation.

(Option) PS Long Lance IV---The Long Lance IV is the next generation heavy anti-spacecraft missile from PS, and was developed after the abysmal failure of most of the launched Long Lance IIs to reach the target during the Dreadnought Crisis . This SLBM-sized weapon is smarter, heavier, and carries its own ECM and countermeasures decoy launchers to give it a better chance of penetrating a target’s defenses.
Range: 1500 miles(6,000 miles in space)
Damage: 2d4 x 1,000 MD to a 4.6 mile destruction radius
Bonuses/Special:
*ECM----The missile has its own expert system and EW transmitters for jamming enemy radar, as well as evading their sensors. The missile is -6 for guided weapons to strike. 60% chance of evading radar detection to begin with.
*Flare/Chaff Launchers(1, 6 bundles)
Damage: None; similar to Triax-style chaff
01-50 Enemy Missile or volley detonates in chaff and threat is neutralized
51-75 Missile/Volley diverts and may pursue/lock on to other targets
76-00 No Effect! Missile(s) still on target!
Will also temporarily blind and impede flying monsters who fly into it.
Reduce APMs/combat bonuses/ speed by half for 1d4 melees
Payload: One missile

2) Modular Weapons Nacelles(2, 2 slots each)---The attack section sports two wing-mounted weapons nacelles with two modular slots for weaponry. Typically, these weaponry are configured for self-defense against fighters and missiles, but they can be used in a secondary strike role. Unless otherwise noted, each hardpoint slot can hold ONE of the following:
a) G-Cannon
Range: 1.5 miles (2,500 m) in atmosphere, 6 miles (10,000 m) in space (Kitsune Values: 6 miles in atmosphere, 600 miles in space)
Damage: 2d4x10 MD per single cannon firing
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

b) Pulse Laser
Range: 2 miles in atmosphere, 4 miles in space (Kitsune Values: 4 miles in atmosphere, 400 miles in space)
Damage: 6d6x10 MD per single cannon firing
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

c) Ion Cannon
Range: 1.5 miles in atmosphere, 3 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 3 miles in atmosphere, 300 miles in space)
Damage: 1d4x100 MD per single cannon firing
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

d) Particle Beam Cannon
Range: 1.3 miles in atmosphere, 2.6 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 2.6 miles in atmosphere, 260 miles in space)
Damage: 1d6x100 MD per single cannon firing
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

e) Mini-Missiles---48 shot pod, volleys of 1-12

f) Short Range Missiles---12 shot pod, volleys of 1-6

g) Medium Range Missiles---6 shot pod, volleys of 1-6

h) Long Range Missiles---1 per hardpoint

i) Tachyon Scatter-gun
Range: 1.5 miles (2,500 m) in atmosphere, 6 miles (10,000 m) in space w/ 3 mile wide arc*
(Kitsune Values: 6 miles in atmosphere, 600 miles in space)
* Scatter width is reduced to 1/4th in atmosphere
Damage: 2d4x10 MD per single cannon firing
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

j) Decoy Cluster Launcher---Each pod carries three different kinds of decoys:
The first is simple sensor-reflective chaff and thermo-flares. These countermeasures are inexpensive and very effective against lower-end targeting systems and sensor equipment(such as that used by nations equivalent to the Coalition States on Rifts Earth), but are ineffectual against more advanced technology.
Range: Close Defense
Damage: None; similar to Triax-style chaff
01-50 Enemy Missile or volley detonates in chaff and threat is neutralized
51-75 Missile/Volley diverts and may pursue/lock on to other targets
76-00 No Effect! Missile(s) still on target!
Will also temporarily blind and impede flying monsters who fly into it.
In space, anything flying at high speed through the cloud will take 2d6 MD +1d6 MD per every 100 miles of speed over 670 MPH.
Reduce APMs/combat bonuses/ speed by half for 1d4 melees
Payload: 36

The second system releases a nanotech swarm of active jamming pods and decoys that are programmed to emulate a spacecraft’s sensor signature, or, at the very least, bury enemy tactical communications in ‘white noise’.
Effective Range: 25 mile jamming radius
Duration: 5 minutes per pod-spray
Effects: Jams radio signals(75% chance of jamming military band command-guidance ordnance), and 60% chance of deflecting ordinary missiles.
Payload: 9 swarm packs

The third system uses modified grav-pack drives and signal projectors to create a moving pattern of sensor signatures. The grav-pack mini-missile drives can go for 10 minutes before self-destructing, and can either be remotely directed or run a preset pattern.
Effective Speed: Mach 6
Duration: 10 minutes per pod
Effects: The decoys have a 70% chance of fooling enemy sensor operators and expert systems. They are are also +2 to enemy sensor-guided munitions to strike, increasing the chance that the missiles will elect to pursue the ‘louder’ sensor signature(the missile rolls to strike for both the original ship and each decoy deployed....highest to strike roll determines which target the missile(s) go after).
Payload: 6 decoys are carried, and can be deployed singly, or in ‘packs’ of 1-3.

3) Light Pulse Lasers(3, two nose mounted, one tail mounted )---Mounted in the command module/escape fighter, these weapons provide some point defense when the two craft are joined, and provide some measure of self-defense if the fighter has to detach.
Range: 1 mile in atmosphere, 2 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 2 miles in atmosphere, 200 miles in space)
Damage: 1d6x10 MD per single cannon blast
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: Effectively unlimited

4) Ramming Attack---As a last resort, the Chimbane can use itself as a weapon, accelerating to top speed and flying into the target(ideally, the crew escape before terminal approach).
Damage: Equivalent to a Massdriver strike

Auxiliary Craft: None, unless you count the Escape Fighter

Variants:
It has been suggested by some that the Chimbane could be immediately modified by replacing the current two-man escape fighter with a larger and more capable craft, such as a modified two-seater StarTiger fighter with FTL module. Trials with such a fitting have thus far proven inconclusive as to any advantages, though they are still ongoing(so currently the Chimbane is produced with the existing AFB-29B-1 module detailed above.
Currently the only major variant of the Chimbane is the AFB-29XLR:

*PS/ASI-AFB-29XLR “Flying Gun’----A ‘direct fire’ variant that replaces the nose and missile/bomb bay with a heavy energy weapon;
a) Heavy Laser
Range: 8 miles in atmosphere, 16 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 16 miles in atmosphere, 16,000 miles in space)
Damage: 1d4x1,000 MD per blast
Rate of Fire: 1 shot per melee
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

b) Heavy Ion Cannon---Relatively low powered, but excellent effects against electronics
(ionization rules courtesy of Henning Rogge)
Range: 6 miles in atmosphere, 12 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 12 miles in atmosphere, 12,000 miles in space)
Damage: 1d4x100 MD per blast
In addition to physical damage, the cannon does EM damage. Percentage of EM damage is determined in relation to target’s main body((damage/main body)x100=percentage). For every 10% of damage from main body in ion damage, target will be -1 to strike, parry. and dodge. In space target acceleration will be reduced by 15%, in atmosphere top speed will be reduced by 15%. Roll once on critical hit charts in Phazeworld or Conversion book as appropriate.
If target takes 60% of main body in ion damage, ship or vehicle will be disabled completely. All weapon, navigation, and other systems will shut down and need to be repaired/replaced to work again/reboot.
Does NO damage against non-mechanical/electronic targets.
The ion cannon is equally effective against bionics
Rate of Fire: THree times per melee
Payload: Effectively unlimited

c) Particle Beam Cannon
Range: 5 miles in atmosphere, 10 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 10 miles in atmosphere, 10,000 miles in space)
Damage: 1d6x1,000 MD per blast
Rate of Fire: 1 shot per melee
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

Missing MDC.

1948, I smell Germans helping on this design. Looks like some of their WW2 concepts and fighter delivered bombs.
I hate it when my mind wonders,
Because I have no idea what it will bring back with it.

Fixed. Wings are 460 each.
And actually parasite aircraft and throwaways were being developed by multiple air forces even before WW2. The German 'Mistral' however, was the first to see any real large scale operational deployment.

Some SmallKin are having problems with their new MicroWarbirds, but are dealing with them. While others are just trying to make an extra credit with the "problems".

taalismn wrote:Been awhile since I did a Paladin Steel vehicle, so I figured I'd take an obscure vehicle and a misplaced concept and see if I couldn't make it workable from off-the-shelf bits and pieces of canon vehicles and systems....(like making scaled down robot versions of the RDF/REF Destroids using common hand weapons for the various guns, using the Robot Construction/Programming tables from Sourcebook 1 Revised, and having myself a set of mini-Gladiators as golf-caddies...or mounting the upper torso of a CS Enforcer robot on the turret ring of a Mark V APC... :D )

Paladin Steel ONTOS II Fire Support Vehicle
(aka “Firecracker”, “Missile Cart”, “Vesuvius”)

“Load the ‘Carts with plasma and incendiary today, squires! We’re celebrating Independence Day again with some fireworks for the Splugorth!”

The original ONTOS was a pre-Rifts Vietnam-era American design for a light air-transportable tank destroyer mounting no less than SIX heavy recoilless rifles. However, while the concept might have looked good for fast response against Warsaw Pact tanks excursing into Western Europe, the design proved suicidal when deployed in the jungles of Vietnam; with its cramped interior, exposed weaponry, and limited reloads(each cannon only carried one round, and had to be reloaded externally by crewmen who would have to stop the vehicle and expose themselves to enemy fire), the ONTOS was a clumsy thin-walled deathtrap. The ONTOS was quickly and quietly removed from service as an interesting, but badly-timed, experiment.
Enough records and descriptions of the ONTOS survived in databases, however, to inspire several Chai-Chuk engineers of the Vermont Free State to try resurrecting an improved version of the design, using already available off-the-shelf components(locally called a ‘bitzer’ design). Paladin Steel engineers, infatuated with the PS-CM22 Missile Cannon(their successful improved knock-off version of the Coalition States’ CCT-M20 Missile Rifle, and perhaps embolded by what the island-nation of Takamatsu had done with licensed copies of the weapon(in particular mounting the weapons on the Type T61 Light Tank), agreed to a limited production run of the Chai-Chuks’ idea.
Though enough performance data remained on the original ONTOS that engineers were loathe to tag their new vehicle with an ill-omened name(and on magic-rich Rifts Earth, superstitions can have some real power), the new combat machine got inevitabley tagged with the ‘ONTOS II’ moniker. Paladin Steel is hedging that potential buyers will look beyond the name and see the solidly-built machine beneath. The ONTOS II is a light, maneuverable, amphibious tracked vehicle with a revolving turret-rack mounting no less than SIX modified PS-CM22 Missile Rifles complete with co-axial lasers. The interior is still rather cramped for normal human-sized crew members, but for small-statured beings, such as Chai-Chuks and Dwarves, the cabin is roomy enough. Relaoding still poses a problem, since only a handful of extra rounds can be carried internally, and must be reloaded externally, but with the greater initial magazine capacity of the CM-22s, magazine capacity is NOT considered to be an issue. Mounted on top of the turret for defense is a standard AFV-mount rapid-fire rail gun, operated remotely from within the turret, or externally via hand-grips by the tank commander. The roughly pyramid-shaped hull has sloped sides for maximum shot deflection, while also being sealed against water, for amphibious operations(with the lack of bridges and prepared causeways in the modern post-Rifts world, Paladin Steel has considered advanced fording/amphibious capability a MUST for its vehicles). Armor is modest; not as much as most contemporary tanks, but heavy for a vehicle of its size and price-range. The engine packages include a multi-fuel liquid fuel engine or a more compact electric fuel cell(most crews prefer the fuel cell because of the smaller size and reduced chance of a cabin fire in event of a critical strike). A nuclear fusion micro-pac engine was considered, but was deemed too expensive for standard production runs. The three-man crew can access the vehicle through a forward driver’s hatch, top commander’s hatch, and rear gunner’s door.
The ONTOS II is best used as a fire support vehicle, firing from behind friendly lines as a light artillery support vehicle. It is also effective acting as an ambusher, attacking from a prepared position. Because of its slow speed, the ONTOS II is best deployed with infantry or other light vehicles to scout and screen for it while it maneuvers into position or retreats under covering fire(squads of ONTOS will typically cover each other, one half of the unit retreating while the other half lays down a missile barrage). Deployment in mixed-arms units also allows the tanks to take advantage of infantry laser-designators ‘painting’ targets for guided ‘smart’ ordnance attacks.
The ONTOS II is in limited production and distribution by Paladin Steel as the design sees advanced field testing, and PS evaluates how the machine does in actual combat. Its dirt-cheap price makes it attractive to mercenaries and community militias. The Vermont Free State military itself has taken delivery of several dozen for testing in National Guard units. Several have already been sold to concerns in Britain and the New Roman Republic(where in the latter’s service it has been given the moniker ‘Vesuvius’).
Type: PS-LT-47 ONTOS II

Rail Gun Cupola 70
Height: 6 ft 9 in.
Width: 9 ft
Length: 13 ft
Weight: 6 tons
Cargo:Small space in crew compartment for several backpacks, sidearms, and a few small personal possessions. With a crew of small statured beings( 5 ft tall or smaller), there’s enough room for 12-20 reload missiles, though these must be reloaded externally).
Powerplant: Liquid Fuel( w/ 300 mile range) or Electrical Fuel Cell( w/ 400 mile range)
A nuclear power pack with 15 year energy life has been tested, but adds 1.8 million credits to the price.
Speed:
(Ground) 65 MPH
(Water) 15 MPH

Systems of Note:
*NBC-shielded crew compartment with air filtration and 8-hour independent air supply
*Radio----100 mile range
*IR/Normal Light Headlights
*Optical Suite---Low Light/Nightvision Optics, Infrared, Thermo-Imaging, and Laser-Targetting(+1 to strike to ranged weapons)
*Mini-Radar---10 mile range
*Periscope---Standard optics periscope that can elevate up to 6 ft, allowing the tank to remain behind cover while surveilling surrounding territory.
Weapons Systems:
1) Mini-Missile Launchers(6)---One of Paladin Steel’s minor triumphs of reverse-engineering has been the knock-off of the Coalition’s CCT-M20 Missile Rifle, complete down to the light laser, but modified to take advantage of PS’s advancements in lighter weight composites and ceramics. Paladin Steel has begun applying the double-barrelled weapon to a variety of platforms, from full conversion cyborgs and power armors to armored cars and hovercraft. The ONTOS II mounts no less than six launchers with their lasers, replacing the antiquated recoilless rifles with superior, multi-shot, firepower. Backing the mini-missile launchers are their co-axial lasers; though weak in power and range, fired together, all six lasers provide a metal-vaporizing laser barrage at close range. The six launchers are mounted three to a side on a low turret that has 360-degree rotation, and 80-degree elevation.
Range:(Mini-Missiles) Varies by Missile Type(usually about 1 mile)
(Laser) 2,000 ft
Damage:(Mini-Missiles)Varies by Missile Type
(Laser) 2d6 MD per blast
(6d6 MD for three lasers firing simultaneously, 1d6x12 MD for all six firing simultaneously on one target).
Rate of Fire:(Mini-Missiles) Volleys of 1, 2, or 4
(or up to 24 missiles from all six launchers firing simultaneously!)
(Laser) ECHH
Payload:(Mini-Missiles)20 per launcher(10 per launch tube)
(120 mini-missiles total between all six launchers!)
(Laser) Effectively Unlimited attached to an external generator, or 20 shots per standard E-clip/30 per long E-clip as backup. The ONTOS II has a 120 shot battery that recharges off the main engine at 10 shots per hour during normal operations, or 20 shots per hour of idling.

2) Cupola-Mount Weapon----Mounted between the two sets of missile launchers on the trurret is a cupola for a standard model IH-100 Rail Gun (PS-100), a tried and well-tested(and much copied) weapon.
Range: 4000 ft
Damage: 1d4 MD single rd, 1d6x10 MD 60 rd burst.
Rate of Fire:EPCHH
Payload:12,000 rd drum(200 bursts)

Variants:
There are no variants of the ONTOS II as yet; PS is waiting to see what the customers come up with before offering variant and field-modification kits.
One experiment under consideration centers around the recent acquisition and importation of several Tarnow T-322 Stinger Light Tanks by Paladin Steel for evaluation. One proposed test configuration would be to strip the chassis of its magically-hardened aluminum armor and replace it with an equivalent weight of megadamage composite material, and swap out the turret for the ONTOS II ‘six-shooter’ turret, creating a tank with marginally better armor(310 MDC) and much greater speed(110 MPH).

Could we get a version with six Boom Guns?
Have you ever been thrown out of a Rifts game for being smarter than the Game Master?

Could we get one with six Boom Guns?

If you look for the 'Zerkat' which was written up later, you can get a version with FOUR Boom Guns. The Zerkat is a later development of the ONTOS II frame, and is essentially the 'variant of variants' of the original Ontos chassis, with multiple weapons configurations asnd even propulsion options(there's an anti-grav robot model and a transforming robot version). It remains something of a favorite of mine, a 'little tank that can'.
Mounting SIX Boom Guns is entirely possible, but probably suicidal, unless you add plenty of reinforcement, and auto=deploy vehicular stabilization pylons. plus a few extra backup micro-fusion powerplants to charge up the Boom Guns, because otherwise a full sextuple salvo would recoil-rip the turret clean off the Ontos/Zerkat hull.
But lordy, the DAMAGE it would do. :D 8)

The latest catalog index is on page 59, search for page 8. The 'Zerkat', that great lovable Ontos [The Ugly Thing], that you want is here. Somewhere in the "Paladin Steel ‘Zerkat’ Light Armored Vehicle Family" posting.

Apparently that dragon is not of the 'poisonous puffer' variety.
The Biotech division of PS IS involved in bio-engineering foodstuffs, just as the CS is, for better yield, greater environmental tolerance, disease resistance, and nutritional content. While cheap fusion power, magic growth enhancements, and quick set-up greenhouses have solved some of the year-round domestic food problems through the use of greenhouses and hydroponics, and reliable interdimensional travel allows for crops to be brought in from other locations, PS is still looking to find means to feed its population locally, especially for vital crops that come from currently sensitive areas and must be transported via easily disrupted trade lanes...Developing citrus crops that can tolerate hard freeze or creating alternate crops that have high vitamin C content, for instance, reducing the need to chemically synthesize scorbic acid supplements to stave off scurvy during the winter(however, the Arctic Orange is still a few decades off from realization).

Yeah, well, our MREs go beyond chemical heat tabs, they feature insta-GRILL heat tabs!
Actually, the funniest MREs in fanfiction are those described by Harry Harrison in his 'Stainless Steel Rat Gets Drafted' where we're first introduced to a recruit meal that consists of a gray brick made up of all the nutrients and salt needed to keep a person alive for a day. It comes in a plastic container that doubles as a water cup, and it then shrinks into a prophylactic that the soldiers are told they will NOT ever be needing.
Later, we meet the HotPup Diner, which consists of a cigar-sized cylinder of hard red plastic. Breaking the air seal on one end causes a chemical reaction that causes the cylinder to expand into a steaming hot yard-long varigated-texture sausage-like foodstuff. If you're desperately hungry enough, and not sent running by its hissing, steaming, activation and cook-off, it's actually pretty good.

Paladin Steel ‘Smash-Master’ Demolitions Drone
(aka ‘KrakTrak’)
http://www.popsci.com/files/imagecache/bown_article_image_550w/articles/StanleyLaBountyF16_Stanley.jpg
http://dcnonl.com/images/archivesid/44123/412.jpg

“Are we through yet?!”
“Al, I’ve got four ‘bots drilling and jackhammering around the clock through hard basalt! We still got a few more yards of bedrock to cut through. That will take ..oh, another half hour? So go back to your book; we’ll be through soon enough.”

“Yeah, I heard the rumors, too, about how PS set up a mining operation on a remote island---ain’t they ALL remote islands?--- with about a dozen demolition ‘bots run off a central computer and powerplant, then for some reason or other had to abandon the place without even being able to mothball the works. By the time they finally got back they’d discovered that the ‘bots had gone blinky and carved the local cliffs and rockfaces into curliques and engravings like ‘I’m Lonely’, ‘Send Help’, ‘Sod Off!’, and ‘Santa, Can I Have a Kitten?’”

The Smash-Master is a simple, but sturdy, robot utility drone that is a direct descendant of the pre-Rifts Stanley LaBounty F16 Demolition Robot, a tread-borne remote control hydraulic armature used in deconstruction. The machine became quite popular well into the Golden Age, with the design being updated and upgraded to be tougher and more reliable, with an increasing degree of automation applied as well, allowing the rig to carry on work semi-autonomously. The original pre-Rifts Paladin Steel Corporation actually bought a number to facilitate repair and maintenance on its giant kilns and foundaries, and it is from these relics that PS was able to produce the current model.
The Smash-Master externally resembles its ancestor, which in turn resembled an overgrown Handi-Trac(indeed, it is often referred to as the Handi-Trac’s ‘big brother’); a scaled down set of tank treads carrying a robotic armature, ending in a modular tool hand. The ‘bot is built sturdy, with a sealed megadamage body providing protection from debris falls and choking airborne dust and grit. The robot can be powered by onboard fuel cells, by an external electric power cable, or by a nuclear power pack. The robot can also be programmed to return on its own to an external recharge station.
The Smash-Master can be operated remotely by a live operator, or can be allowed to run on its onboard computer. The robot can be trusted to carry out simple operations on its own, such as driving a tunnel or demolishing a building; the demolitions and excavation programs are sophisticated enough that the robot won’t undercut itself or debris on top of itself, but the machine is otherwise very single-minded in carrying out its given job. The machine must be given very specific instructions if working in an obstacle-crowded environment(‘Tear down this building’ can lead to disaster if the building in question is sitting atop and directly up against another structure, while ‘Tear down this wall’ would be a better and more limited task within the Smash-Master’s level of comprehension). There have been rumors that early model Smash-Masters could ‘run rogue’ upon finishing a task, and becoming ‘bored’, start demolishing random structures on their own; Paladin Steel denies these rumors, and points to a number of fail-safes and ‘kill-switch’ measures installed to prevent such happenings.
The Smash-Master is too slow on its treads to be an effective weapon, but a number of buyers have modified the armature for faster reflexes and have modified the programming to include combat moves, either to use the robot in gladiatorial fights, or as a security robot. The ‘bot has some limited utility in these roles, though it is best suited for operating in circumstances where mobility is not a critical issue.
Smash-Masters are typically assigned to demolition and excavation, but they are also used in demolitions disposal, construction, repair, hazmat handling, foundary work, and general labor. They are also used in forestry, highway maintenance, shipyard work, and other areas involving repetitive, tedious, or dangerous work. Smash-Masters(and their derivations) are fairly ubiquitous around GNE territory and PS facilities.

Type: PS-RU-005-4 Smash-Master
Class: Remote Control Robotic Drone, Utility, Multi-Purpose, Semi-Autonomous
Crew: Semi-Autonomous; remote control or robot drone A.I.
MDC/Armor by Location:
Main Body 90
Treads(2) 15 each
Armature: 90
Height: 61 inches
Width: 31 inches
Length: 7 ft
Weight: 3,400 lbs
Cargo: The robot can heft a 550 lb tool head
Strength: Robotic P.S. of 30(for damage purposes).
Lift: 1.37tons/Carry: 690 lbs
Powerplant: Electric cable feed, battery(18 hour charge) , or micro-nuclear(5 year energy life)

Market Cost: 230,000 credits for the basic (externally powered) rig, 330,000 credits for battery-powered, 1.2 million for micro-nuclear
Systems of Note:
-Modular Tool Arm---The modular attachment point can be fitted with any of the standard Mining Cyborg Tool Arm features(also see Options, below)
-360 degree turret rotation
-16 ft reach w/ the robotic arm
-Basic Robot Optical
-Laser Range Finder/Measure---Range: 100 ft
-External Audio Pickup---300 ft
-Radiation Detector/Geiger Counter
-Metal Detector------200 ft range. Fairly useless in metal-rich environs, like a city or ship.
-Ultra-Sound Scanner---This system uses ultra-high frequency sound to read the internal layout and composition of structures, such as concrete pipes, composite materials, and cement walls. 80 ft range

-Stress Monitor---This system uses polarized light, short-range ultra-sound, and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) to read stresses and metal fatigue in metallic structures. This is also useful for detecting cracks in structures, and assessing damage. 20 ft range

*Stabilization Pylons(4)---These four hydraulic pylons deploy from the ends of the robot and lift the treads clear of the ground, bracing and locking the robot in place.

Weapons Systems: None
Programming: The standard programming module holds three programs:
-Demolitions(Non-Explosive) 85%
-Mining 86%
-Excavation 80%

The Smash-Master also has basic voice-recognition and can take vocal commands in four different languages(re-programmable).

-Combat Programming: As noted above, some buyers adapt their Smash-Masters for fighting. Same as for the selected skill program, only the robot does not enjoy any sort of dodge, kick, or roll ability.

Options:
*Thermal Insulation----This option effectively heat-proofs the robot in refractory materials, permitting it to operate in intense heat environs, such as in close to kilns and metal foundaries. Megadamage heat does 1/4 normal damage. Cost: 200,000 credits

*Vibro-Claw/Jaw Attachment---Does 4d6 MD on a power ‘snip’, 1d4x10 MD on a full-melee crush/bite. Cost: 75,000 credits

*Circular Saws-----This option consists of a large(3ft diameter) circular saw studded with teeth of superhard ceramic, a swivel mount, and a blade guard. The Circular Saw is primarily intended for those jobs where tearing with a claw is not precise enough, and where plasma torches might do unacceptable thermal damage, like felling trees, cutting asphalt and concrete, and carving up debris.
Weight: 100 lbs
Range: Melee
MDC per Blade:45
Damage: 6d6 MD per slash, 1d6x10+10 MD per full melee cut
Cost: 150,000 credits

*Forklift Tines----Allows for lifting and carrying cargo pallets(load cannot exceed 500 lbs). Cost: 1,000 credits

Variants:
Variants consist mainly of changing the programming(Basic Maintenance and other general labor functions are possible) and the modular tool head. Additional sensors and other gear can also be added. The basic chassis and tread propulsion unit can be used for a variety of different purposes as well.

“Al, I’ve got four ‘bots drilling and jackhammering around the clock through hard basalt! We still got a few more yards of bedrock to cut through. That will take ..oh, another half hour? So go back to your book; we’ll be through soon enough.”

Is that "Al" - person or "AI" - the computer talking about what he has working? :-D

SmallKin Rabbits or mutant rats at work. Not bored robots scanning books and stuff, unless PS was testing a swarm robotics 'colony'?

"A-L", as in "Albert". ;)
And I was WONDERING if anybody would suggest that the Smash Master was scaled for Smallkin workers.
As for it being a practical joke or an emergent A.I., That's a Secret. :P

Thought about that but... Loud noise and small ears ... do not work well together.

"What did you say?"

So remote control was best option or my first wonder was Smallkin control cockpit came to mind.
I hate it when my mind wonders,
Because I have no idea what it will bring back with it.

I found the picture that I have been looking for years.

Will this do Aramanthus, the Orb Drive Cruiser. The thumbnails in the corners have a few more designs. The 'wheel'chair ones are nice.

I was not looking for this one but I found it.

Haven't forgotten about new material for this thread; just been very busy at work and the days just seem so short this season. Hope to do my next entries up with style for the coming holiday season.

Paladin Steel McUAV03 ‘MicroDragon’ UltraLight Recon RPV

“Okay, here’s the scoop from Intel; the Brandes Gang’s hiding in the Woolsey Swamp, just as we thought, only they’re a lot closer to the western edge than we expected. They’ve definitely broken away from the rest of that little terrorist army ‘Father Redemption’ cooked up, they’ve dumped the ‘Proctors’ assigned them, but they still got the missile launchers and the nano-bombs. They’re hauling them through the swamp with them, rather than ditch or cache them. They’re looking to use them to hit our facililities at Wilson, where the terrain’s easier and they won’t have Redemption’s religious nuts spoiling their blackmail and looting with that crusade nonsense. Guido Brandes is going to send three of his sons forward about three-four hours before dark, spot a course, then make a run for it under cover of night and try to reach the Eire shores where he’s got boats waiting. We avoid his scouts, we can move to bag Guido and the ordnance then.”
“That’s pretty good intel. We got an informer among them? Psych-link? Crystal ball?”
“Let’s just say we got them bugged.”

A collaboration between PS Robotics and PS Nano Automata, the ‘MicroDragon’ is an ultra-small unmanned reconnaissance drone that resembles a common dragonfly. Micro-motors powered by an ultra-compact power cell allow this tiny ornithopter to fly as agily as the real dragonflies. The head is packed with micro-sensors and a tiny AI CPU chip. Construction is of ultra-light and tough carbon fiber composites.
The MicroDragon can be remote controlled(typical control range is limited by its own radio---5 mile range, though this can be extended with relays) or can be programmed to fly a pre-programmed course, flying around until it recieves a command signal.
Though limited by its (relatively) short range and limited sensor scope, the MicroDragon is an extremely versatile tool in combat and law enforcement, its small size enabling it to navigate narrow spaces and go unnoticed. It thus sees a lot of use in surveillance, tracking, and scouting, especially in urban environs.
Several variants of the design exist, including a non-insectile four-rotor model that costs only 3,000 credits a unit. The performance of these variants are otherwise identical to the baseline MicroDragon.
Type: McUAV03 ‘MicroDragon’
Class: UltraLight Unmanned Reconnaissance Drone
Crew: Robot drone
SDC/Armor by Location:(A.R. 8 )
Main Body 8
Height: 1/2 inch
Width: 3-4 inch wingspan
Length: 3-4 inches
Weight: 0.8 grams
Cargo: None
Powerplant: Rechargeable micro power cell with 10 hour energy life; this can be extended as much as 48 hours if the drone is in ‘sleeper’ or ‘lamprey’ mode, with only minimal power usage.
Speed:(Flying) Equivalent to a running speed of 44(30 MPH), with bursts of 66(45 MPH). Maximum altitude: 8,000 ft
Market Cost: 4,000 credits, but is not publicly available
Systems of Note:
*Basic Robot Optical and Audio
*Low-Light Vision Optics
*Micro Radio---5 mile range
*Transponder---This will reply to a transmitted radio signal, echoing back the signal as a means of allowing a tracker to know the drone’s position.
*Motion Detection/Air Pressure Sensors---The MicroDragon can detect an incoming projectile or squashing hand from 10 ft out.
*Clinging---The MicroDragon can cling to just about any surface.
Weapons Systems: None
Programming:
*Navigation: Air 80%
*Tracking 88%
Bonuses:
+3 Dodge

Options:
*Micro-Mapping Radar---A short range radar chip(range: 300 ft) that can be used to slowly build up a comprehensive topographical map of objects and surfaces within range. Mapping an average sized room, for example, would take about 1d4 minutes. Cost: 500 credits

*PPE Sensor---This consists of a speck of ‘Pixie Dust’ Stabilized Ectoplasm, treated to glow in the presence of PPE, attached to an optical sensor chip. The sensor reacts to the presence of active PPE, or high levels of ambient PPE, but is not able to register the scale of activity, type, alignment, or nature of the PPE. A passive ‘dumb’ sensor with a rantge of about 15 ft. Cost: 60 credits.

*Mini-MicroGrenade Rack---Though the MicroDragon is not designed for combat, inevitably somebody came up with the idea that it would be neat to use the mini-UAV to carry a micro-explosive. The MicroDragon can carry ONE Mini-MicroGrenade, although the larger 5.56mm/.22 ‘long’ will impose a Speed penalty, reducing the UAV’s top speed by 30% and reduce its Dodge bonus by -1.
Weight:(.22) 1.9 grams
(5.56mm/.22 ‘long’) 2.8 grams
Damage:(SD)
(.22) 2d6 SDC to eight inch ft blast radius
(5.56mm/.22 ‘long’) 6d6 SDC to 1 ft blast radius
(MD)
(.22) 1d4 MD to six inch ft blast radius
(5.56mm/.22 ‘long’) 1d4 MD to 1 ft blast radius
Features:
-Exploder Chip---A multi-mode detonator that be set for as little as a fifteen second count to as long as five minutes, or can be radio detonated.
Cost:
(SD)(.22) 100 .22 SD MMgrenades cost 30 credits
(5.56mm/.22 ‘long’)100 5.56mm SD MMgrenades costs 40 credits

(MD)(.22)100 .22 PSX-1 MMgrenades costs 800 credits
(5.56mm/.22 ‘long’)100 5.56mm PSX-1 MMgrenades costs 900 credits

Note: Incendiary Grenades are also available; they do only HALF normal damage for the first round (minimum of 1 MD) and the same for 1d4+1 melee rounds afterwards. They also cost 25% more.

Note2: Micro-transmitters can be substituted in place of micro-ordnance. A typical micro-transmitter ‘tag’ weighs 1.9 grams, has a transmission range of just about a mile, and a battery life of 4 hours. It also usually has a sticky adhesive surface to better cling to a ‘tagged’ target.

Does their big brother or can they be equipped with Mini-MicroGrenades to hurt squirrels, not SmallKin?
If a ‘MicroDragon’ finds a target can it sent a homing signal for missile attack?

Possible to throw a softball size sphere and have it break up into a half dozen ‘MicroDragons’ for beachfront recon.

Your title above is broken.
I hate it when my mind wonders,
