I am going to run my first game this evening and I was wondering if there is any rough "guide line" for how near or far away a player is/can be from a leyline at any point or is that something that is entirely up to me as Game Master?
I can see how to randomly generate size but if the PC's are in the middle of nowhere what are their "odds" of stumbling on a ley line on Rifts Earth in North America?

Re: Being Prepared (Leyline question)
I always used this for dramatic effect, and in my games it's completely arbitrary.
Here are some quick and dirty tools if you need randomization. Use a D8 for determining directions, assign each number to N,S,E,W and NW, SW etc. I tend to reassign the numbers every once in a while, I am not sure why, it's a habit. I am sure there is an easy way to cook a distance, but I always give out a number.
If you have time to really plan it all out, you can use a modern population density map of NA to at least determine where the concentrations of leylines should be, and where they are not.

Re: Being Prepared (Leyline question)
I'll check tonight... the RMB had distances for Ley Line & Nexus Point effects, the RUE left that stuff out.
Off top of my head (take as such): 200ft from Ley Line for effect, 500ft from typical NP. Effects include sensing, and headaches for psychics, as well as increasing duration & range (for LL), and damage as well (for proximity to NP).
Meaning that you had to be kinda close to a LL with all that entails, in order for a Mage to be able to benefit from the extra PPE & spell-effects... and how far away your psychics will want to camp.
