Body Armor and Magic OCCs

Unread post by SpiritInterface »

In the Rifts universe in general and the three galaxies / UWW in specific I would expect to have created environmental body armor(light, medium, and heavy) for magic users.

The Space Warlock get either body armor or enchanted robes but there is no information on them.

The UWW does have armor for magic users. This is found in the 2nd PW book where the UWW is detailed. Also in a recent rifter(w/in the last 8) there has been a mage armor published.

The only UWW armor in the 2nd PW book is the Warlock Space Marine Power Armor. :|

I checked from Rifter 44 on and found nothing about mage armor. :|

In Dimension book 6 the standard equipment issued to Space Warlocks is "Light Magic Armor or Enchanted Robes." How ever nowhere in all of the Rifts, or HU books is there any "Light Magic Armor or Enchanted Robes."

It is under the Warlock Marine Magic Specialist. Page 40 equipment. This is the standard Non-powered armor for them.

Depending on modern rules (Rifts UE) or the old ones (Rifts Main Book) a magic user could use a environmental armor. I prefere to use the old rules ;-).

I knew I had seen mage armor before and I found it. In Merc Ops on page 153 is TW mage armor.

Not to mention that the RUE has a write up for armor for mages under the Ley Line Walker description.

Rogue_Scientist wrote:I usually just bar mages from use of heavy (weight/MDC) and exo-powered armor without penalties.

I really don't see a problem with them wearing most light- or medium-MDC suits, and find most of the rules pretty inconsistent. Although, in fairness, as long as they're wearing "TW" EBA they're pretty much good to go.

The GM is allowing me to use some TW mods on a set of Med. EBA.

I had a Shifter who had the skills (Leather Working and Skin and Prepare Animals) to make her own armor out of natural MD hides (Fury Beetle armor was one of them that she did).

If a mage wants heavy armor id let them as long as they wore thin gloves and only cast with the face sheild up/helmet off, leyline walkers are always seen wearing gas masks if thoose don't interfear with casting and using power words its hard to belive layers of composit armor are really going to effect you.

The problem I ran into was that Mages couldn't wear environmental body armor and we are playing a group based on a space ship in the three galaxies and I had created a Space Warlock(which is very vague on equipment). All of the rest of the team can wear environmental armor and function with out a problem in a vacuum. It is like "Well the damaged ship we want to investigate doesn't have any air we can't bring our warlock."

I was surprised that in all of the Palladium books there isn't more that two hard to find references to environmental mage armor. I would have thought that Shifters, the UWW and other magic using people who travel from world to world or from dimension to dimension would have come up with a variety of mage armors for any occasion.

It honestly doesn't surprise me, however that may change when they have a sourcebook come out that talks a lot more about the United Worlds of Warlock.
