Undead Creation

Unread post by JuliusCreed »

This odd thought just suddenly popped into my head, and I figured what better place to get decent opinions than right here... so here goes...

The magic rituals Create Mummy (PFRPG Spell Magic level 11 pg 210-211) and Create Zombie (PFRPG Spell Magic level 12 pg 121-213) share a common thread between them that sparks my interest...

The... invocation is a necromantic ritual that turns a corpse into [one of] the undead.

Bearing the above in mind, what are the possibilities of a similar 'necromantic ritual' that turns a corpse into one of the undead... in the form of a full blown Vampire! No, I don't mean going out and getting bitten or hooking up with a Vampire Intelligence... I mean prepare a circle, make a sacrifice, chant some hoodoo mumbo jumbo for a few hours, expend the neccessary PPE and BOOM!!! One freshly created Vampire, hot out of the grave and ready to serve his WIZARD Master.

Any thoughts? Any ideas? Anyone already come up with it?

There's a necromancy spell that requires daily casting until the moment of death at which time the necromancer becomes a true vampire, independent of any bloodline.

Not looking to become a vampire as per the necro spell... I'm looking to create and control one through a variant ritual of the Create Mummy or Create Zombie rituals.

No such spell exists in canon, to my knowledge. Time to cook up one youself, I reckon! :)

exactly my point... thus the reason for this post... to see if anyone had any ideas/comments/randon thoughts/rants for such a creation. And as long as I'm on the thought... here's what I can come up with on my own...

Create Vampire
Level 13
Range: Touch
Duration: Exists until destroyed
Saving Throw: None
PPE: 1200 or 1500 (see below)

This invocation is a necromantic ritual used to turn a corpse into one of the undead, specifically, a vampire! The caster needs a recently deceased body (dead for no longer than 6 hours) placed in a pentagram drawn in the blood of a demon. (Special PPE Note: If the blood of a Greater Demon is used, the result of the ritual will create the equivalent of a Secondary Vampire and requires 1500 PPE to cast. Using a Lesser Demon's blood will result in a Wild Vampire being created and requires only 1200 PPE) The ritual may only be performed once per month on a moonless night. During the ritual, the mage burns 5 black candles at the points of the pentagram while reciting the ritual incantation and mixing 3 drops of his own blood with three drops of the demon blood in a chalice. At the end of the ritual, the blood in the chalice is poured into the mouth of the corpse. At this point, the corpse becomes a Vampire, swallowing the blood in its mouth, which awakens its Vampiric hunger, and the caster is permanently drained of 6 Hit Points.
As previously noted, only Wild or Secondary Vampires may be created with this ritual and, regardless of the type created, the thing will regard the caster as its only Master, obeying any and all commands issued. The creature functions as a normal Vampire of its type, possessing all normal Vampiric abilities, powers and weaknesses including Supernatural PS, Mesmerizing Gaze, Slow Kill Bite, vunerabilities to silver, garlic, etc. There is a rare chance that a Secondary Vampire created with this ritual will turn on its creator, effectively becoming an independant Vampire, (roll percentile once for every month of existance, 15% chance per month of turning) but this is largely dependant on how the creature is treated by its Master.
(Note: A mage of Good alingment will almost never use this ritual except under the direst of circumstances and even then, they will often encourage the creature toward basically Good behavior. Remember, Vampires are intelligent creatures, particularly Secondary types, and are capable of being basically Good, or at least Unprincipled alignment. More often than not though, if a Good aligned mage finds this ritual, they will often destroy it rather than make use of it due to the inherrently foul nature of the creature it creates.)

My apologies on the lack of Vampire statistics as the appropriate books containing said info are currently unavailable to me. But I'm relatively certain most of you out there have the info you need for it anyway. As soon as my books are returned to me, I shall make the appropriate editting changes needed.
Until then... questions, comments, compliments, complaints, suggesstions?

Don't forget there are two basic vampire types in PB: blood and PPE vampire. (might be other types, but I can't think of any).

I would add to the duration something about the time it can go without feeding or the undead creature will wither and die at the end of "grace period" (either the creature is more potent or weaker and in either case requires a larger supply to return to "normal").

Here's a fun idea to add onto the spell, since making your own vampire should be a dicey proposition at best...

Creation Curse: In the event the mage who created the vampire should be slain, he will rise again in 3 nights time as a vampire himself as a result of having invested some of his own life essence into another vampire fiend. While the prospect of coming back as an eternal undead might be appealing to some, the catch here is that the mage would awaken not only as a vampire, but a vampire of subserviant stature to the fiend he created! Instinctually he will regard the older vampire as his maker since they share the same essence and instinct drives him to regard the elder fiend as his superior.

Hmm...

I had a rather interesting idea, though it was different to you. Basically the same general gist, Wizard uses some of his life energy to create a Vampire (though again not subservient to an Intelligence but the wizard who created him.)

However there is a catch, in the same nature as Grell's suggestion. There is a link between Vampire and Wizard and this is what both binds the Vampire to the wizard but is the reason that the Wizard created the vampire. Teh Vampire in his undead nature drinks the blood of mortals, absorbing their power, and PPE...but some of that power, is given to the wizard. As long as the Vampire drinks on a regular basis, the Wizard keeps getting more 'raw life energy', sustaining him, keeping him alive.

However the contact with a undead fiend twists him so as time passes he becomes more and more evil himself. It gives him power but when he IS slain ALL his power is given to his undead creation, who goes from being the equivalent of a Secondary Vampire into either a Master...or maybe something worse. Not an intelligence but...

Worse, the wizard acts as a Phylactery for the Vampire, in that unless HE is slain the Vampire is incredibly difficult to kill...

Though this is probably ludicressly overpowered not really viable for gaming sessions it could be interesting.

As for your spell... It looks very well (Though i'm not sure of the Vampires being basically good, since the books mention that they FEED on the misery and fear their behavior brings...) but the rest looks pretty good. Maybe change the permanent cost to include one point of PPE or something, as 'damage' of splitting ones life force.
